It looks like Comcast EOLed almost all of their DOCSIS 2.0 modems recently.
What does this mean for me (using a modem that was just marked EOL)? I still get 28Mbps down, 5Mbps up on performance internet using DOCSIS 2.0, so I see no reason to upgrade at the moment. Will I be forced to do, and if so, when?

[WiFi] xfinitywifi channel
I recently started having wifi difficulty at home, where I have comcast wifi. I then noticed the SSID xfinitywifi, which appears to be from my comcast wifi gateaway (it disappears if I unplug the gateway). However, it seems that xfinitywifi and and private SSID are using the same channel, which I assume would cause issues. Am I right on that point? I tried logging into the gateway, and setting it to a different channel, but that also changes the channel of xfinitywifi. When I log into my account on comcast.net, I can't find an option to turn this off, which seems to be the way to to this based on google searches.

[Speed] Not getting new promised speeds. Router issue?
Hi. I signed up for a new HSI package. I was getting 25 mbps and should now be getting 50 mbps. However, I am still sitting around 20-25 mbps.
When my modem is plugged directly into the PC, I get the promised speed. When I use my router (all wired, no wireless), I get the throttled speed. Is there a setting I need to change in my router??

[Connectivity] Signal attenuator for downstream
Do they make these? My friend has 12 db on the downstream and 48 on the upstream. He's having a lot of jitter in some games.
Do they make 100mhz+ downstream attenuators?

[Speed] Speed dramatically slower recently
My first post here. My internet speed has dramatically declined recently. I have Comcast Blast (50Mpbs) and speedtest.net tests have consistently reported up to 45 Mbps prior to Friday Jan 3. For example, today I'm getting only 1.27 up/1.15 down with 19ms latency. I get similar results using the Comcast speed test site.
I am in Bellevue, WA using an Arris TG862G modem that I received a few months ago after upgrading to X1. I have a Linksys WRT160N wireless router attached for other devices but my PC is connected to the modem via an ethernet cable. Using the FAQ, I tried to connect to the modem at 10.0.1.1 to find log and firmware info, but the "admin/password" combination returns "authentication failed".
I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting both the power to the modem and the incoming cable but nothing changes. I've also seen many similar reports about degraded performance on the Comcast forum site.
Can someone suggest what I should do next? I've not found the Comcast support people very helpful in the past (either by phone or chat) and have not tried them yet.
Thank you in advance.

[Connectivity] Using ATT Microcell/Verizon Network Extender. My voice cuts out
I have an ATT Microcell and Verizon Network Extender connected to my Comcast Cisco wireless modem/router. When making or receiving calls, the person on the other end often tells me my voice cuts out or drops off. This happens often during calls. I have no issues hearing them, no cut outs or anything.
Since this occurs on both ATT and Verizon, I am assuming this is an issue with Comcast some how. I have done a test with results showing high jitter.
Upstream jitter 323.2 ms
Downstream jitter 4.6 ms
Upstream packet loss 0.0 %
Downstream packet loss 0.0 %
Upstream packet order 100.0 %
Downstream packet order 100.0 %
Packet discards 99.0 %

INVITE ms - ms
BYE ms - ms
I have tried a couple chats with Comcast and lets just say that was about as frustrating as my actual call issue. I dont know where they hire these people from but some of them are just awful to deal with.
How else can I troubleshoot this? What can I say to Comcast to make them better understand what the problem is?

[Caps] Comcast New 300GB Monthly Limit And Overage Charges
Well, this is some BS!!!
Dear XFINITY Internet Customer:
At Comcast, we recognize that our customers use the Internet for different reasons and have unique data needs. Starting September 1, 2013, Comcast will trial a new monthly data plan in this area, which will increase the amount of data included in your XFINITY Internet Service to 300 GB and provide more choice and flexibility.
What this means for You
The vast majority of XFINITY customers use far less than 300 GB of data in a month. Based upon your recent usage history, it appears this new data plan will have no impact upon you, and you won't need to do anything, or change your Internet usage. If you are not sure about your monthly data usage, please refer to the Track and Manage Your Usage section below.
We want our customers to use the Internet for everything they want and your service will not be limited to 300 GB . While we believe that 300 GB is more than enough to meet the Internet usage needs of most customers, Comcast will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional $10, should you exceed the 300 GB included in your plan in a month.
In order for our customers to get accustomed to this new data plan, we are implementing a three-month courtesy program. That means you will not be billed for the first three times you exceed 300 GB included in the data plan during a 12 month period. Should your usage exceed 300 GB a fourth time during any 12-month period, an additional 50 GB will automatically be allocated to your account and you will be billed $10 for that data and each additional 50 GB of data in excess of 300 GB during that month and any subsequent months your usage exceeds 300 GB.
Please note that this is a consumer trial. Comcast may modify or discontinue this trial at any time. However, we will notify you in advance of any such change.

[Connectivity] I hate cold weather
I hate it when the temperature gets near 0. I always run into upstream issues. Connection goes dead, but I can see the link light still blinking as normal for awhile. Then it goes into a reconnect, but sits at upstream blinking for about 5 minutes. I've had this issue for several years and several different modems. It's especially bad this year with the unusually cold weather. Upstream signals are all normal, around 41-42.

[Rant] Comcast tries to blame my BRAND NEW router
Just bought a brand new Netgear N900 router to replace my 4th gen Apple AirPort Extreme. Today January 6th it's raining out with some snowmelt so moisture is possibly an issue. I'm having horrible connectivity with it being sluggish and at some points being unable to connect. I call comcast and the CSR plays the usual blame customer owned equipment game, it's like they have quotas on CSRs denying it's their problem. But they have no problem admitting fault if it's their equipment, they'll just swap it out and the problem returns because it's obviously a cable plant issue.
I think the problem has to lie in the underground plant because the service on our street is overhead the first three houses and then goes underground (mine is on the first ped on the U/G system). I think they reused the underground lines when they rebuilt the plant in 2002 because you can see where the splice is on the pole but all the overhead wires are new (easiest to replace) and I think the underground hard line has reached end of life or has moisture ingress because it seems to be acting up real bad when it rains.
The signals appear to be fine on the modem. A couple of T3 and T4 errors in the modem logs as well.
The issues I'm having is I can access certain websites but not others. I was not able to access the directv website or Verizon Wireless Website but could on my Verizon Wireless router.

I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.
I have not and will not cut the cord.

[Connectivity] Occasional disconnects; webpages time out
Hi- We're experience sporadic connectivity issues (disconnects), and I was wondering if someone can confirm these stats from the Motorola SB5100 modem. This past may the wireless router was upgraded to the Asus RT-N66U router w/ latest stock firmware as of this writing; there is clear and strong 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ signals despite the disconnects, and respectively it is more than capable to handling the amount of traffic and connections that pass through. On a typical day, speedtest.net results reflect advertised/rated speed provisions of the 25Mbps HSI package. (tested now: 24.75/3.75mbps @ 43ms ping)
Also, the cable modem is connected in the attic in a three story residential house, so I'm not ruling out the possibility of a power issue with the in-house coaxial line connection. Anyways, I'm open to ideas, comments, and suggestions. Thanks!

[Connectivity] Horrible Connection - Modem Stats Attached
Anyone know where I should start looking? All of the line levels, etc. are in line with what they have been for the past several months and everything was working fine.
The past week or so, I've had connection issues - dropping, dropped packets, etc. I take a look at the status page today and BAM, a TON of Correctables and even more Uncorrectables!
The modem was booted up Saturday evening. So these error counters are from Saturday Afternoon to Today (Tuesday at 11:30AM).

[Speed] What did Comcast do to my modem?
About 6 months ago, I moved from an apartment to a house on the same Comcast system. I have a Motorola SB6141 modem. The day after I called to move the service (a couple days before I moved), the speeds went to crap (60mpbs to a couple mbps), but I didn't really care, as I was moving. I moved into the house with 3 roommates, and for a week, we had horrific problems getting the internet working properly. It would often be .5mbps, with the full 12mbps upload. After days of swapping it to basically every different cable in the house, checking levels over and over and over, and calling Comcast several times and re-provisioning the modem over and over, they sent a guy out, he checked everything, and told me to try a new modem from the Comcast office. I got the new modem, and voila! everything worked fine.
Fast forward 6 months, and I'm tired of paying their absurd rental fees for a modem, so I tried swapping in the owned modem, but it was only giving me about 10mbps. I called them, and after getting bounced around their tech support several times, got it re-provisioned and working correctly (PB around 100mbps, evening out to about 60mbps). This morning, it was still working fine, so I returned the rented modem to them, and I come home and it's broken again. After two reboots, it now gets 37mbps, which is even weirder.
What the heck did they do to my modem and how do I get them fix it? Re-provisioning doesn't change anything, and it still intermittently breaks. They can't even figure out what's wrong, and they're usually unwilling to help. I don't want to have to buy a new modem because these idiots broke mine. When the other cable company gets more channel or Comcast enables their data cap, I also can't really switch to the other cable company with a modem that Comcast broke and expect them to do anything about Comcast's problem, so unless I can get Comcast to fix it, I'll have to buy a new one.

[E-mail] Compatible email client for Comcast
I'm looking for suggestions for an email client that will work with Comcast's webmail. I want to be able to download the messages to my desktop; NOT any of the "cloud" or "live" stuff.
Currently have (don't laugh) Vista Home Premium x64 with my beloved WindowsMail that I really like (the mail program, not necessarily Vista, lol). ALSO -- looking for a client that will readily import the .eml messages.
FWIW, there *used* to be webpages that gave instructions on dabbling with the registry to allow WindowsMail (not the live sort) to work with Windows7, but it seems Microsoft shut those down.
Any suggestions, please?

[Equip] TM822G modem - backup battery required?
In connection with my Xfinity installation scheduled for Thursday, I bought an Arris TM822G modem. It did not come with the backup battery. I vaguely recall reading here or on the Comcast support forum that the battery is required. Is it required? If not, is it advisable to have one?
Thanks,

[Rant] Comcast cut off my non-Comcast service
A few days ago, I returned home from a vacation to find that my RCN cable internet service was not working. Not only that- when I opened a web browser, it would take me to a Xfinity self-activation page! A Comcast tech had apparently cut the coax to my apartment (the remnants of which were still on the floor in the floor's utility closet) and replaced it with a Comcast line- and I have no idea why!
I called up Comcast tech support (as well as my own), spoke with a couple people in India, but they couldn't promise to send anyone out quickly. I also spoke with my building's Comcast sales rep and she told me - this is a direct quote - "no way Comcast will send a technician." Finally, after 3 days Comcast sent someone out to repair their error.
I understand that internet service is generally "best effort", and customer contracts indemnify the company from outage-related issues, but I am not nor have I ever been a Comcast customer.
What is the best office to contact to seek consideration/compensation, given the fact that I couldn't do assigned work from home and actually lost salary because of it. I don't want to go the small claims route but I might have to...

[Rant] providing xfinitywifi on customer owned router
This is a very minor rant, but does anyone else find it strange a a bit of a slap that in order to offer xfinitywifi connection you need to lease a comcast device?
I mean, as a good Samaritan I would like to make xfinitywifi available to folks who need it around my place. I know from traveling that sometimes you just need a quick connection and few are open connections anymore. There are none local to my house the closest being 5 miles away.
So, since I am helping comcast why do I need to pay a rental for that privilege?
Anyone else feel this way?

[CDV] Digital Voice Modem?
I am modeling xfinity packages as I am thinking of switching to this service. When I go through on the web, it tells me I need a "digital voice modem" for $8/month. Couple questions on this if you'd be so kind:
1. Is this a separate unit from the router?
2. If so, does this mean they provide the router but it's at no charge?
3. If so, what does this digital voice modem do/what is it used for?
THX!
Being snowbound in sub zero temps has made my life simpler as I hear the mainstream news and our President. I have converted to liberalism. I have learned that if it is cold, it is global warming period. If it is hot, it is global warming period. Being unemployed creates jobs period. Thus if 50 percent are receiving unemployment benefits, then each creates a job period. End result equals 100 percent employment period. End of unemployment period. Life is so simple in the liberal world period. I think I am ready to watch a Three Stooges movie marathon period.
