Greetings!
Here's my question......I have the following in this order
Comcast-----SBG6580-----Dlink 24 port Gig Switch 16 ports used throughout the house
----- Airave From sprint
----- Linksys Wireless access point
The three lines represent ports on the SBG6580
When I reboot the modem I do not get a renewed IP unless I do the following:
Unplug the three network ports on the SBG6580
Plug IN my laptop to port one....then reboot again and I get another IP....(Actually the same IP for 5 years now)
So.....I am guessing I need to take advantage Mac Spoofing......But when I put the MAC of my laptop into the Spoofing it still does not renew the IP unless I do the mentioned steps above.....
What gives? Can someone tell me how to make this more robust so when the modem reboots it gets an IP address?!
Thanks!!!!

[Speed] Extreme 200 Coming Soon

Whelp this showed up and figured it might be of some interest.

[Signals] Anyone else in West Michigan having issues?
Ughhh - now the 4th outage in my "area" since 12-22-13. I *think* it's Comcast as the automated attendant each time says something to indicate it's an area issue, rather than my modem.
What do y'all think: these are my modem signals after sort of having a connection (13 hours out) and TV still not working. Our weather is about 2F.

[Install] Comcast Enterprise install.. yay!
Well this took since summer, for planning, designing, and now implementing...
thanks to the Comcast reps on this forum for helping me get this done. Today Comcast is running a 24 strand fiber line into our building. It runs for 5 blocks from what I can see to their splice point.. they've been out there all morning running leader lines, feed pullies and all the other stuff, and started pulling the fiber at lunch. We originally were scheduled to be lit and tested in mid January.. but they are ahead of schedule and now it's going live in a couple weeks.. SIP and PRI circuits, and Metro Ethernet via fiber to Comcast at 1Gbps symmetrical.
If you ever go this route, you need 4 U of rack space for Comcast hardware... they run the fiber to your racks terminate it there and then it goes into their equipment, and this is even before the router and phone hardware. there is another U taken up by the router another U by your hardware firewall if you have it separate from the router... another U for the SIP / PRI emulator... lot of rack space used up for teleco now but it's worth it to ditch the phone company's way to expensive T3's

[Connectivity] Coax Shocked Me + Packet Loss
I've been noticing a lot of issues with my HSI the past month or so (As well as cable, sound/video sync issues).
I really only use the internet for Netflix (30/5 plan) and it will freeze and stop playing and thats when my pfsense box will be reporting ~20% packet loss.
I decided to try removing the splitter from the equation and connect the line directly to my modem and test my connection there. After I fully removed the coax from the splitter I got shocked. I assume that is not normal? The drop from the pole goes into my basement where it is grounded to my water pipe next to my old POTS (disconnected service) ground and then back outside under my siding until it enters my den where the splitter, TV, cable modem is.
Power levels on my SB6121 are usually -1 to 2 however I noticed (while still in spec) during these times they go to 10.
Is the current I felt when touching the main coax an issue? Should my splitter also be grounded? A 3rd coax runs back outside and upstairs to a 2nd cable box. Other than the drop, the cables are about 20 years old and are on my to do list for replacing this year.
A regular tech visit has been scheduled.

[Connectivity] Any service issues in the Denver Area?
Over the past couple of weeks HSI service has been all over the place. I just did a speed test and the Ping Rate was 5626ms @30/6 off an HTML5 test in Texas that I have gotten 0ms from. Off a local Flash/JAVA server test it's all over the place. Right before I started having issues, my pings were down to 0ms sometimes, but average 20-30ms. One minute things are fine, the next I wonder if we're even connected. Last night I did a power cycle after my router said there was no Internet connection, one of many, and it took forever for everything to link up. And just a while ago I was on the phone, VoIP, and it went dead as a family member yelled from the other end of the house wondering if we were connected to the Internet.
So . . . Gremlins or down time for the holidays? I hate to think of having to get a hold of my service rep, because their dept is slammed since last Summer and I never hear back. Most of the time things just happen, so I wait. This time I thought I'd ask around.

[Speed] My IPv4 & IPv6 speed test
My IPv4 & IPv6 speed test's from 622am 1-1-14 to 747am 1-3-14 on the 50Mbps/10Mbps. Before Comcast went IPv6 in my area it would auto pick Seattle as the server to test. Now Comcast has IPv6 in my area and now it doesn't pick the server itself anymore. I pick Seattle as it has done before auto. Now it say's I am 7700 miles away. I wonder why it would be telling the this. Oh well.

[Rant] Comcast cut off my non-Comcast service
A few days ago, I returned home from a vacation to find that my RCN cable internet service was not working. Not only that- when I opened a web browser, it would take me to a Xfinity self-activation page! A Comcast tech had apparently cut the coax to my apartment (the remnants of which were still on the floor in the floor's utility closet) and replaced it with a Comcast line- and I have no idea why!
I called up Comcast tech support (as well as my own), spoke with a couple people in India, but they couldn't promise to send anyone out quickly. I also spoke with my building's Comcast sales rep and she told me - this is a direct quote - "no way Comcast will send a technician." Finally, after 3 days Comcast sent someone out to repair their error.
I understand that internet service is generally "best effort", and customer contracts indemnify the company from outage-related issues, but I am not nor have I ever been a Comcast customer.
What is the best office to contact to seek consideration/compensation, given the fact that I couldn't do assigned work from home and actually lost salary because of it. I don't want to go the small claims route but I might have to...

[Equip] Activated my own modem, Service Plan changed?
Sorry if this has occurred before, but I have done my best searching and I have not been able to find a similar situation.
2 days ago I purchased and activated a new Motorola SB6141. I unplugged the old modem, went through to the walled garden site, and I chose my existing service plan, which at the time was a Double Play with the internet as Performance 25/5. For the past 2 days I have been getting speeds that are just too fast (108/28 speed tests, more like Extreme 105 tier). So I logged in to my account and both of my modems (Motorola and old Comcast provided) are shown as active. However, my new Motorola modem shows I have "Extreme 50" (which I never signed up for) and my old modem has the correct service, Performance.
I originally thought that this was just that the system had not yet updated, but today I got a new promotion and was upgraded for free to Blast 50/10 and my old Comcast modem shows Blast service while my new modem is still showing Extreme 50 (and giving me Extreme 105 speed).
Today I got into online chat and really got nowhere, some reps (tech support) didn't know what I was talking about and the billing rep just told me to call a service center tomorrow, which I will do. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue before. I really don't want to get billed twice for internet I did not sign up for as I am only using one of the services.
Thanks for your help.

[CustSvc] Provisioning a new modem -- Quickest way?
Hi there,
I am going to assist someone replacing a XFinity gateway with a Motorola SB6121 modem. (The XFinity is not allowing PPTP VPN connections out and from what I can see on the forums, this is a known issue with people either demanding the Arris gateway or rolling their own modem/router.)
My question is: Is there a special number I should call to get the modem provisioned? Or do I just call 888-Comcast and hope they won't refuse to do it?
(edit: I suppose I should say that I am being cynical with my last statement. Maybe this is no big deal. I just haven't done it in years.)

[Connectivity] Is anyone else noticing packet loss/high pings in Chicago Metro?
Started on Friday through Sunday and Monday all was ok no issues but today its just pain full.
Cant play BF4 cause of lag spikes from 200+1000+ sporadically.
I changed my coax cables/tips all direct from the pole to home without any splitters.
Even changed to a new modem lol that was an interesting situation.
But Im noticing the Cermak backbone always having high pings 150-250+ lots of the time it even times out.
My current info
Downstream Value
Frequency 699000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 38.8 dB
Power Level 9.1 dBmV
Upstream Value
Channel ID 9
Frequency 22600000 Hz
Power 43.7 dBmV
Ive been monitoring this since the power level is around 9.1 but it dosent hop during the lag spikes so it cant be my line can it?

[Install] Okay to split TV-TV-Internet?
I'm in the process of installing Internet in a relative's place where there's existing TV working.
I used a 5-2050 two-way splitter which I brought from a discount store back home. On one side I have my TiVo Premiere (w/M-Card), on the other I have a cablemodem. It seems to be working though I'm having router trouble (not the subject of this thread).
To hook up the TiVo I had to disconnect the Comcast-provided HD STB (big silver one, DCT5100 maybe?). I would prefer to leave them both connected, so that when I leave (and take my TiVo) I won't have to mess with the STB cabling. Looking on eBay, I see a cheap unbalanced 3-way splitter. I understand unbalanced means 7dB on each of 2 ports and 3.5dB on the third.
Should this be okay? And I'm thinking that if it is, I should put the internet on the 3.5 port, though digital TV is pretty susceptible too. Or is this pushing the limits and I have to reconnect and test the STB when I go? Last year we used Comcast's splitter which I had to return. Also, when I leave there will be only one device connected to the splitter, leaving 1 or 2 ports open. How critical is it to put terminators on them, if the only thing connectred is the STB?
Thanks!
