I do not know who to complain to or what to do about this but there is an issue with streaming HD via Netflix and Comcast. My Comcast performance service constantly measures around 28 Mbps on their speed test as well as other snap shot testers. That says I should be able to easily stream HD no issues.
However, this Netflix report showing my streaming yesterday reflects fluctuating speeds supporting SD downloads.
I have never been able to reliably stream HD via Comcast Netflix. It just does not work.
See attachment.
So what to do. One of the reasons I changed my ISP to Comcast so I could stream HD.
Who do I complain to? Why is this happening? Is there a fix from my end?

4 Upstream Channels
I just returned from Christmas @ the inlaws and logged into the SB6141 and was surprised to see 4 bonded upstream channels. I'm located in San Jose, CA and am pretty sure this wasn't the case when we left on Christmas Eve. Is anyone seeing the same - all channels are 64QAM. See attached screenshot.
Anyone know when they turned it on in San Jose? Not that it matters, but I'm on the Performance tier.

Comcast Blast 50
I am new to the forum so I am sorry if this is a real dumb question. I just go Comcast Internet-Only and I want to download an hd movie. Everytime I try it gives me a "You don't have this channel" or similar errors. I just want to go to the hd movies, select one to download and pay for it legitimately.
Again, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. Please direct me to the correct forum if not. Thanks in advance.

Syncing E-mail message's using sprint IPhone 5C
Hi,
I'm trying to get some valid information concerning an issue my friend is having with his message's while using his new IPhone 5C that he just purchased from Sprint. The problem is with his inbox message's, while he's on his computer using comcast e-mail, and reads / deletes some message's, that function works, but when he checks his e-mail with his IPhone, the message's are still there. Is there a 'fix' for this behavior ? I really wonder if the sprint employee who setup his new IPhone did something incorrect..I'm surely not trying to put the blame on that sprint employee, just looking for a solution.
Thanks,
David :hmm:

[Speed] What did Comcast do to my modem?
About 6 months ago, I moved from an apartment to a house on the same Comcast system. I have a Motorola SB6141 modem. The day after I called to move the service (a couple days before I moved), the speeds went to crap (60mpbs to a couple mbps), but I didn't really care, as I was moving. I moved into the house with 3 roommates, and for a week, we had horrific problems getting the internet working properly. It would often be .5mbps, with the full 12mbps upload. After days of swapping it to basically every different cable in the house, checking levels over and over and over, and calling Comcast several times and re-provisioning the modem over and over, they sent a guy out, he checked everything, and told me to try a new modem from the Comcast office. I got the new modem, and voila! everything worked fine.
Fast forward 6 months, and I'm tired of paying their absurd rental fees for a modem, so I tried swapping in the owned modem, but it was only giving me about 10mbps. I called them, and after getting bounced around their tech support several times, got it re-provisioned and working correctly (PB around 100mbps, evening out to about 60mbps). This morning, it was still working fine, so I returned the rented modem to them, and I come home and it's broken again. After two reboots, it now gets 37mbps, which is even weirder.
What the heck did they do to my modem and how do I get them fix it? Re-provisioning doesn't change anything, and it still intermittently breaks. They can't even figure out what's wrong, and they're usually unwilling to help. I don't want to have to buy a new modem because these idiots broke mine. When the other cable company gets more channel or Comcast enables their data cap, I also can't really switch to the other cable company with a modem that Comcast broke and expect them to do anything about Comcast's problem, so unless I can get Comcast to fix it, I'll have to buy a new one.

[WiFi] How to find someone local to install and set things up for me?
I'm an intermediate PC user and have little or no experience configuring network stuff like this.
We have Comcast HSI using their TG862G/CT here, and are using it wirelessly to go to 2 PC's, a Roku 3, and now a new Sony BDP-S5100, which also has wireless and I configured for Netflix. The Roku and Sony are in bedrooms, the Sony being the furthest distance, probably 50 feet from the modem, through walls.
( That Roku 3 is awesome, by the way, with its dual band receiver! Best streaming Netflix we've EVER had! The Roku 2 wasn't so good. )
But on the new Sony, the signal was only 18% on that, when I checked it this morning ( because it was taking me 5 minutes to load a movie ), and moving it around, I was able to get 40%. The modem is on a high up shelf but that doesn't seem to help a lot.
But about a year ago, I bought a Netgear high powered router, a WNR3500U/L, I just didn't have the know-how, to get it working with the modem, and had to remove it.
So I'm wondering if any Comcast networking techs in the Denver area might do some work on the side? Is that kind of person hard to find?
We're still paying an extra $8 a month in rent for the modem, so I'd like to get someone who could replace the modem with the same model that we could buy, and get it working with this higher powered Netgear.
The only thing that concerns me, is that Comcast would start doing their "we won't support it" nonsense again, if we do this.
OR should I just ask Comcast if they have a higher powered modem they can replace this with, and pay them the rent, to keep everything all happy for us?
And how do I go about looking for a tech like that? Craig's List?

[Connectivity] High packet loss & poor upstream speed
Comcast has been billing me for Blast and gave me a DOCSIS 2 modem. They replaced the modem and then my problems started.
Two techs visited the house, neither would tell me how to view modem status, luckily I read on this board to connect to 192.168.100.1.
The second tech says signal levels are fine, there is nothing else he can do, and closed the ticket.
Spent thirteen minutes on hold with Comcast after that, and then the call was disconnected.
Anything I can do to help Comcast along? Ping test shows a 30% loss between the head-end and myself, and up is only two to seven Mb/s.
The modem event log is empty; here's the upstream signal information:
UCID Freq Power Channel Type Symbol Rate Modulation
Upstream 1 1 34.80 MHz 46.75 dBmV DOCSIS2.0 (ATDMA) 5120 kSym/s 64QAM
Upstream 4 2 27.90 MHz 45.25 dBmV DOCSIS2.0 (ATDMA) 5120 kSym/s 64QAM

[Equip] Two cable modems on one account.
I replaced my SB6121 with an SBG6782. Did the self install, no issues. The 6782 was having some issues with connectivity, so I was going to call Comcast and have the 6121 put back on the account. Before I called, I noticed on the "my equipment" section of the website it had both modems listed as active. They both had separate bandwidth usage.
This was over 6 months ago. I was able to resolve the connection problems with the 6782 and am now using both modems in separate areas of the house.
Both bandwidth meters continue to update separately and both modems remain active. I am also only being charged for one internet connection.
Is this a mistake on Comcast's part to allow both modems to access the internet? From what I've read here recently, I shouldn't be able to do this.
Does anyone have any insight?

[Equip] eMTA online purchase
I was posting in the thread http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28859633-Price-Triple-Play-cheaper-than-Double-Play but I have my own question that differs enough for a new topic...
Quick summary: I have purchased a Arris TM822G from ownyourcablemodem.com (yes I read mixed reviews -- granted). The idea is a Christmas gift for family that has Xfinity HSI/VoIP, that is running on one of the Docsis 2 rented eMTAs. Upgrade to current equip + dump the monthly fee.
Now, since I have read some mixed reviews on ownyourcablemodem.com (or related sites), should I open the modem when it arrives & try to activate it on my own Xfinity HSI service first, to verify it works and activates? Or should I leave it in the packaging, and wait to activate it until Christmas at its new home?
The TM822G is on the approved modem list, and ownyourcablemodem.com claims it is brand new, in box. They had used ones listed, but I'm not touching a used Docsis modem unless it is a rental unit provided by Comcast

[Speed] PSA: Slow WiFi on Comcast? May be Comcasts Fault
There is a critical bug in Comcast's network configuration that is likely crippling thousands of routers and pretty much only Comcast has this issue. It is an edge case interaction caused by bad DSCP information coming from Comcast and poor condition handling by the WMM driver on certain linksys/cisco eseries routers and possibly others as well. This issue can appear on both stock and modded routers. Comcast's network is misconfigured and has been for years and has likely caused many people to needlessly replace fully functional routers, IPv6 speeds always worked for me because DSCP was configured correctly for that but it is incorrect for IPv4. Since the only packets with this bad information are the ones that are being downloaded upload is not affected nearly as badly. This can affect any router that uses QoS or WMM(every wireless N router has WMM)
This is the fix I made and used on an e2000 and e3000 running shibby 112:
put this in init scripts section:
insmod xt_DSCP.ko
and this in wan up scripts:
iptables -t mangle -A PREROUTING -i vlan2 -j DSCP set-dscp 0
these may need to be modified slightly depending on configuration.
This corrects the bad DSCP header information as soon as a packet hits the WAN interface on a router.
DSCP as received from Comcast's network is 0x08 this is the lowest priority possible which WMM interpertes as being unimportant to transmit quickly.
The scripts listed changes the DSCP on all packets to 0x00 which essentially means unclassified which WMM handles properly. This is how virtually every other ISP uses DSCP and is why the issues is specific to Comcast.
I have confirmed this issue on connections in both Chicago and Boulder, CO and it is likely to be present on Comcast's entire network.
Cisco appears to have at some point released new WMM drivers for stock firmware that largely resolve the issue on current stock firmware, otherwise implementing my temp fix as a GUI option would probably be a good idea for the affected routers. The ability to assign DSCP to all traffic on chosen interfaces also might be a good thing to add anyways.

[CustSvc] Comcast Mailing Concerning Account Status
Hi,
Yesterday in the mail I received a piece of mail from the following address:
COMCAST
P.O. Box 2399
Warminster, PA 18974-0040
In the mailing it stated:
Dear Dxxxx Wxxxxx,
This letter confirms that you, or a user on your account, recently made the following change(s) to yourXFINITY account:
- Your Preferred email address was changed
- A secondary user has been added to your account.
If you did not authorize the above change(s), please call 1-800-XFINITY to verify the security of your account.
Did anyone else receive a similar mailing ? I checked my account information this morning..I didn't see where a 'secondary' user had been added, also..my 'primary' email address still showed as the way I originally set it up: Dxxx49@comcast.net .I did see where a second email address was added somehow for receiving offer's from xfinity.

[Equip] Switched to zoom.
Got a Zoom 5341J from Best Buy to replace my 2.5 year old Motorola 6121. From what I've read the Zoom might deal with fluctuations in the upstream power better. I'd have no problems for weeks with the 6121 but then for a week I'd get lots of spikes in the upstream power (short times of 51db) leading to T4 timeouts and reboots. Then no problems for a few weeks, started acting like that months ago. We'll see how the Zoom does long term with that, power levels are the same as when I disconnected the moto. It is nice to have the 8 downstream channels now.
FYI: The walled garden has really improved since I used it 2+ years ago, with one minor flaw, it says to only put numbers in for your account number, but it would not accept it until I put the dashes in (as in: "xxxxxxxxxxx-xx-x")
