[Equip] MB8600 Bonding

$

Anyone try to bond ports yet on their MB8600? I have mine plugged into a Microtik router using 2 lines and successfully got them bonded at 2Gbps max throughput using LACP as the bonding method... Now I don't have a tier that supports this yet but you can see via the interface statistics that data is flowing out both ports when you do multiple streams (LACP of course does stream aggregation... 1Gbps per stream max....) so I guess at least this modem is able to be bonded right now?

[Speed] Experiencing site slowdowns? Comcast and Cogent are at it again!

If you have been experiencing throughput issues lately with some web services or apps, this may be the reason: When slow downloads hit an app developer, only Comcast customers suffered Comcast and Cogent fight again, and customers lose with slow Internet service. Huge connection problems - 3mo of comcast not knowing why

$

In an apartment complex in Bremerton WA, with a Netgear CM1000 modem and RT-AC87R router. During primetime hours (6-9pm), getting huge drops in connection. To the internet, not to the network itself. Drops in connection in January were smaller, enough where it'd be noticable in video games, but not cause problems in Teamspeak or other applications. Now it's getting so bad that the connection will just full drop for like 5-10 seconds. This is happening over ethernet, both on my rig and others in the house also wired in. The modem itself doesn't flash any funny colors or anything, it thinks it's connected and fine. I was thinking it could be something a bit broad to the apartment complex, but have found I can connect to the "xfinity wifi" put out by somebody else's rent-a-modem, get 25d/10u, and get no connectivity issues whatsoever. The modem status page shows: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/269361527407116299/422976176433397776/Capture1.PNG https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/269361527407116299/422976178069045248/Capture2.PNG Dunno, running out of ideas other than swapping out hardware and seeing if that does anything. It seems like if it was the router, it should be different than the 6-9 primetime hours, as I live with a bunch of night owls, our network primetime goes until like midnight or later, 6-9 isn't when we use it the most whole-house at all. So my assumption is the modem or something to that end? Router's all updated on firmware and the modem is at V3.01.04 which I think is at least close. Whenever it happens I end up in comcast support chat, they reset the modem, check snr, etc etc, reset things, hope for improvement. Sometimes it helps the average speed go up, sometimes it doesn't. Either way the connection is still unstable. At times when the connection just full drops I've had to hard reset it a couple times just to get connection to the internet enough to load the support page. Have had four sets of techs come out, all shrugged and left without really having any ideas.

[Connectivity] MB8600 with additional ip.

Does anyone here have the MB8600 with the blast tier and an additional ip? I subscribed to gigabit and have lost it twice. The gigabit modem file was correct for the additional ip on gigabit but I lost the tier overnight. It reverted to d11_m_mb8600_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm. My gigabit file ended with c05 and so did the performance tier I had before. I'm about to give up on gigabit and go to the blast tier. There doesn't seem to be a proper config file for the MB8600 with an additional ip on the blast tier.

[Other] Blocking Legit Traffic

As I have reported in the past, Comcast has been caught several times by our company blocking VOIP traffic and then two to 5 days later, contacting my customer to offer voice services. They have been running this corporate scam for about 7 years now. Most recently, they contacted a customer with over 50 handsets, sold them on a plan that was 85% less than my service, and while it was not legal to do so, a recording was taken of the conversation with the sales rep SLAMMING my company for being present on the INTERNET and having lack of ability to provide fail over in a moments notice. Of course all not true. Sadly due to the fact that not both sides were aware of the recording, I could not file my case in the local court system. I have to say now that this customer is still with me because Comcast botched the installation process and while they promised they could do everything we could do, their service had encountered an outage for 3 days and short of 1 day for the FOC date of the port. HA HA Karma sucks! Anyhow, I am bringing this up here publicly with more details now in light of the recent public post of the blocking of an email service. (http://www.zdnet.com/article/comcast-customers-blocked-encrypted-email-service-net-neutrality-repeal/) And while the Net Neutrality repeal is only days away, it still exists and Comcast broke the law. Will the FCC file an investigation? My deep sources within say "no not at this time". I will offer one more bit of information... I have planted a new hire within Comcast's ranks in New England in the hopes that this person will find out all the inside secrets of their operation and how they are messing with my customers and with other services. This bad marketing campaign exploit is a violation of privacy and should be brought to the attention of HIPAA and PCI. For Comcast to deep packet sniff any packets, especially when they come out of a medical facility, is a major violation of HIPAA and I believe HIPAA would have a valid claim to investigate. I have taken my service one step further with a more advance method of VPN including using non-native ports for the VPN and changing these ports on a monthly basis. Yes its a pain in the butt to change each month, however the payoff is 0 downtime and it is really my middle finger pointed at this corporate asshats for doing so many illegal things. I am looking forward to the day that these monster companies finally see that we are awake, and at some point, we will resist and they will lose money. I hope they opened a savings account for that rainy day. It will be bittersweet when it happens!

[Connectivity] 2 modems? 2 IP addresses?

My current set-up has an Arris TM602G (from Comcast), which was added to my setup when I added Voice to get full triple play. It's only for voice, as I also have a SB6121 modem which I own. Now, the Voice modem has an ethernet port which shows active, but not usable. I plugged in a laptop, see the IP address, but can't use it to connect. Now, Comcast is showing that I should update this voice modem. And I assume it will run the Xfinity WiFi. My question - If I accept this new modem, will I have access to the second IP address? If the modem is active, will it function as a second line?

I use the Netflix app on my sony 4K tv,and I am signed up for the HD plan and have the playback settings set to high which would be 1080p in my case.the Netflix website says 3GB per hour for HD video.according to me it is 5GB per hour.my question is even though I'm only on the HD plan my tv upscales to 4K quality so is this why I see more data being used 5GB per hour? I remember reading this somewhere but still not sure.

[Equip] CM1000 Netgear vs Motorola MB8600

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but just need some advise. Have a friend moving into the Comcast area next month and will be buying his own modem and router. He will be going with a 3.1 modem because he wants the latest. He likes Motorola brand and I was wondering about the MB8600. I have had the Netgear CM 1000 since they came out and other than the weird ofdm errors it's been great. I see the MB8600 is actually made by Zoom. What is the opinion of that modem for those who owns and use it? I had two bad expediences with zoom modems a few years back. The router is no problem because I have Nighthawk R7000 I am giving him. He is moving from Hughes satellite so anything he gets will be a huge improvement. Thank you!

I'm posting this here. Feel free to chime in if you live in the area. Periodically I will post updates. I just did a factory reset of my modem to clear out all previous issues and start fresh. This is a screenshot from around 2:20 or so. Do the signal levels look good to you guys? They look pretty good to me, considering where they've been in the past. If there are changes I will add to this post. Not going to bother with the event log since it only has provisioning info. However, I did take a screenshot of it. Oh, and DSL reports speed test: Not QUITE the speeds I am looking for, but no complaints. I will also test elsewhere. EDIT: Testing elsewhere yielded similar results. Hard to interpret. No other devices being used, but tons of devices hooked up. (1 smart phone, 2 smart TVs, both powered off. Google Home, etc.) I suspect it's more on Comcast's end though, but it's not super high priority for me, as long as they work through it. I may also purchase a new router. This one has done 945 down before, but it is an AC-68U and I've been eyeing a good quality high end netgear nighthawk....either that or build my own Pfsense box.

[Caps] Data cap question

I just received a warning popup that we used 90% of our cap. But, im trying to figure out how that is possible. We don't have Netflix. We don't watch movies via internet, only Direct Tv. My son does watch YouTube a lot, but I don't think that would eat up to much data watching Dinosaurs videos. Our phones are our only means of internet, most of the time. I haven't used my laptop for a few months and my wife only uses hers for an hour or so, a week. I lived in a house with multiple people streaming Netflix and never came close to 500Gigs. But here i sit and type this and we are close to 1T data. How?

I have an SB6183. My speeds seem to be ok (about 280 down, 12 up). I do get a few slowdowns from time to time. I noticed a lot of uncorrectables. Should I be concerned? I think my numbers look ok. [Equip] High Upstream dBmV after Switching from CM3200A to MB8600.

I've read a lot that you can't compare voltages from one modem to another but I've also read that no matter what, 56dBmV is a very high upstream level. Before I was sitting around 32 with the CM3200A. That modem I used to have on Atlantic Broadbands gigablast tier and those levels were great. I have 1000/50 with no problems but had lots of ping spike issues until i switched to the MB8600. 1 more question, what is SC-QAM I see in the upstream channel type. I always saw, i'm pretty sure, 16QAM, on the Arris CM3200A. I was hoping the upstream voltage was so different due to the different channel type. Here is my screenshot. Should I look into this? I don't seem to have any issues..

[Connectivity] internet connection goes dead randomly?

Hi there, so I've recently moved to a new place late december and wanted to make sure our internet at this new place was up to speed.. I made a thread shortly after moving in about how our coax cable setup looked and signals, etc. That thread can be found here.. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31763020-Connectivity-recently-moved-checking-to-see-if-connections-look-good Anyways so following the events of having someone from comcast come out, I had the guy remove any unnecessary coax cables and just make it so that we'd have our setup be from the main utility pole drop line to the side of our house, running up into our 2nd floor level room which should be the only connection going on now. He put coax cable caps on anything needed and he did tell me that after setting the cables up as I wished, that our signal levels were a bit high and so inside the house near the modem/router the coax cable connection from the wall goes into a splitter to drop the signal before it goes into the modem. Now things have seemed about normal as they have been since his visit on jan 21st minus one night around 7pm there was an outage known in the area (no big deal). but aside from that.. now twice within this week I've noticed our internet would randomly die.. first time was on tuesday around 3-4pm and now today a little around 2-3pm time frame. What I don't understand is whats happening.. it's as if our internet just got unplugged but then i'll go into the room with our modem/router and they both are still showing that everything is on with it's status lights, the only one not showing as normal is on the router.. under the power light the connection light i think is either yellow or off, but everything else for lights is still on. We just bought both modem and router last summer brand new, so for things to be hardware related already seems pretty weird if that sounds like the case. below I'll include a few pictures to help out.

Is splitting Comcast coax cable for two modems a bad idea?

$

Hey guys, Right now I am using just one modem for both Phone and internet and I am thinking in the near future of maybe adding a separate modem just for internet. If I were to split the coax cable into two lines would that hurt the signal bad enough where I would see slow down or phone issues? I would really rather not have Comcast run another wire into my home as I already have too many as it is. I really would just prefer to use one modem like I am now. But I have heard a lot of bad things about the XB6-A. I hope the XB6-T Broadcom Technicolor CGM4140COM is better but that is also not out at retail stores yet.

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Pro & earlier Gigabit Deployments

Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger. Alerts with Unlimited?

Looks like I am going to need unlimited once my two "free" months are up. Comcast is pretty aggressive with their alerts, and I am way over the 1TB limit at this point. They have emailed me 4 times, done the lovely intercept popup and even called my house to let me know I was over. Just wondering once I user my two free months up and get their unlimited plan if the alerts will continue. I could see that becoming fairly annoying, especially if I am paying for it.

Comcast Data Overage...

I've been a Comcast customer for many years. Never thought I would reach the Data Limit of 1024GB. Well, just yesterday I did. My recent data usage history (last 6 month) says on average I use about 1/4 of the allowed data per month. This month (March) already over the limit in just 2 weeks. I've since changed the Network password. But I do not believe my network was compromised. By the time I reached 1024gb, it took just the first 18 days into March. Makes no sense. I've contacted Comcast, they're looking into it. Anyone else have this issue? Just to say, my high usage is from Gaming and Netflix, but no way on this planet have I used that much data on just 18 days. I do a lot of gaming, and still never went even over HALF allowed data, in one month. There's still 12 days in this month, and I've already gone over 1024gb's? What gives??? I'm totally lost here. Please help?
