[Rant] Customer-owned equipment discount

$

I have a Tivo so have not been renting a cable box (only a cable card) and have been getting a "Customer-Owned Equipment adjustment" of $2.50 on my bill. I've also been renting an EMTA modem which I just replaced with my own equipment. Comcast accepted the equipment but didn't stop the billing until I complained. I'm under contract so pricing shouldn't be going up. The Cable Modem rental was $10/mo and should now be off my bill which in normal math would be a $10 discount + a tiny drop in the taxes. In Comcast math, this equates to a $7.50 discount. I'm told that this is because the "Customer-Owned Equipment" is only an adjustment on rental equipment and they eliminated the $2.50 discount. Does this make sense to anybody? Why would a Customer-Owned Equipment adjustment apply to rental equipment? This is from the website: "Comcast provides a credit to customers who have an activated CableCARD installed in a customer-owned device (e.g., TiVo or CableCARD-equipped television) or customers that own a qualifying converter (See Customer Owned Equipment Policy) if the customer subscribes to a Comcast video service that includes equipment as a part of the service. Customers who qualify will receive a monthly credit of $2.50 for each qualifying activated CableCard device or converter." I've had Comcast for the past decade and have always gotten this discount because I've never rented a cable box. Every year but this past year I've also had my own modem and still received the discount. Now, I've got some guy on the phone telling me that I shouldn't be. This sounds like BS. Is it?

[Speed] After service auto upgraded, uploads down by factor of 4

Comcast sent out some letters a few months back stating that they were upgrading my plan from the 75/10 plan to a 100/10 plan for no extra charge. While downloads did improve, uploads dropped significantly. Tests using iperf from my server, connected via Ethernet, to public iperf servers around the globe all show 450Kbits/sec to 2Mbits/sec. Speedtest.net reports 17ms ping, 118Mbps down and 8Mbps up. Testmy.net reports about 95Mbps down and 2Mbps up. Big inconsistencies there. I host a few personal services at the house, including Nextcloud, Home Assistant and Zoneminder. The decrease in upload speeds have made using the services very difficult. I've contacted Comcast several times, and I have the second visit from a technician scheduled. I've even purchased a new modem in the hopes that it may resolve the issue but I'm still out of luck. The signals on the modem appear good. Any ideas what it could be?

Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. [Speed] Speeds slower than expected with new SB8200

I have the Blast 250/10 service. I just upgraded from a SB6141 to a SB8200. I was getting around 250 Mbps on download speed tests on the old modem and expected to get 300 Mbps based on reports from other users on Blast. I'm getting 285 Mbps. Not only that, but speed tests sometimes stall based on a bandwidth meter before recovering resulting in lower speeds. http://speedtest.xfinity.com/results/JEKQ0H0A31FN0A9 My new SB8200 is getting a DOCSIS 3.1 downstream connection and a DOCSIS 3.0 upstream connection. I just had gig installed, and am not ready to buy a new modem/router just yet (at&t is laying fiber, i'm not willing to commit $200 to a D3.1 modem just yet) This XB6-A is garbage and even in bridge mode it crashes and burns quite regularly. Is there an XB6-B or really ANYTHING else i can ask for? Or should i just grab my SB6190 and go back to 300/25 (my service was totally flawless with it)

I had extreme 250 for a few months and it was provisioned 300/30 mbits then Gigabit came into town and I upgraded two months ago. Found out now there is a new 400mbit tier along with all previous ones and to my surprise they lowered uploads on ALL tiers. 250 only has 10mbit and 400 too. 150 and down only got 5 wth? And this is after At&t fiber just rolled out in my area. Thanks my lucky stars for competition I will be moving my business to ATT for that 1gbit $80 /m +tax I'm in Houston Tx btw

Here is an odd one, and hopefully someone here can help. When connected to my modem directly I get my 1gb internet speeds using dslreports When I go through my router (xr500) I only get 220megabit/s on the http page, but when i click the 'https' I get my 980megabit/s I am expecting to see. Speedtest.net and xfinitys speedtest all reach the 900+ speeds. I apologize if this is the wrong forum, but any idea what might be causing this? Thanks

[Equip] Netgear CM500V discontinued? And are Amazon Warehouse modems OK?

Hi, Switching to Comcast triple play after years on FiOS. Was thinking of buying a Netgear CM500V since I need a voice modem, but I can't find it anywhere. Has this modem been discontinued? It seems for a pure voice modem the only other option is the older 8x4 units. Second question -- I have read on here not to buy used EMTA modems. Does that apply to Amazon Warehouse deals? I can't see paying full price for an 822 modem, but $70 for an Amazon Warehouse one is reasonable (and I could buy a 3.1 modem later and keep the 822 for just the phone). FYI, I did the triple play deal with the 200 Mbps Blast internet. Moving from FiOS 50/50 so I will miss some upstream capability but the downstream should more than make up for it.

I have the Blast Pro (250/10) and after reading some of the comments left on another thread regarding "playing the new customer game", I'm seriously contemplating getting TV service, even though my family doesn't watch off-network shows (they tend to watch the news except for my dad who watches football, basketball, and occasionally tennis) for lack of a better word. I'm in the third month of the 24-month contract (which the price of internet will increase by $5, said the representative) so what would be the best option for me?

[Signals] CM1000 DOCSIS 3.1 with XFinity Blast 150

So for the last 5 months, I have been involved in a dance of death between Comcast and NetGear. The second week of November, we noticed a sudden drop off in our Internet speed. At the time, I had a CM300 from Netgear for 3 years with no problems. Instead of getting the 150 to 160 mbps I was used to, I was seen 50 or 60. Comcast came to the house and said your modem is bad, so I replaced it with a CM1000. That didn't fix the problem. Since that time, they have replaced every cable and connector, including retrenching a brand new thicker cable from the street. Every splitter was eliminated and I now have a straight line from the box in the back of the house directly to the CM1000. The persistent issue is a MASSIVE number of uncorrectible codewords on two channels/ frequencies. It is channel 23 and 24 frequencies 567000000 Hz and 573000000 Hz. When I say massive, it's almost 2 BILLION in a week on 23 and a half a billion on 24. I hard reset the modem on Friday and completely re-provisioned it and I already have a half a billion on channel 23. An L2 engineer came to the house and said the errors are appearing on the tap out in the street so it is NOT my equipment. He said it must be an amp somewhere downstream and he was calling the linesmen to have a look. There was a brief flicker of hope but a truck was in our neighborhood the next day and then I got a call from Comcast indicating the problem was resolved. It is NOT resolved. The L2 guy even showed me the signal shape he captured on the tap and he said it should be flat and it was stepped up to a very high level. To my everlasting regret, I did not get his name. He said he could call me to follow up, but never did. Comcast will never let you get to level 2. If one more person from Comcast wants to "send a reset signal to my modem" I think I will lose my mind. Has anyone else experienced this? They are going to install gig service here this year and there's no way I will sign up for it (although I desperately need it). I work for a major software company and have done software development for almost 30 years. I know PCs, Macs, Linux, Windows and networking really well. I am attaching the error log and the downstream and upstream stats in case anyone wants to look. Any help is appreciated. Oh, NetGear contends that the Comcast CMTS (ARRIS) is like 4 patch levels behind where it should be and this would be fixed if they upgraded. I am not sure I agree with that. Warmest regards, A very frustrated Xfinity Internet Customer.

Maddening WiFi issue with Arris TG1682G

Recently I had my Gateway swapped out by Comcast. When I did so I transferred over the WiFi settings over from the old modem. Comcast had a very nice online utility for doing that. I had to also make a service call for internet issues unrelated to the gateway. Support on the phone made the service call as they were detecting an infrastructure issue. When the tech came out I gave my son instructions to give me a call (which he convinced my son wasn't necessary). The tech came to the conclusion that the problems I was having were because the WiFi settings didn't math the sticker on my router (as I had transferred from the previous). Don't they get info from support with their tickets on dispatch. I called support again because of the ongoing neighborhood issues. They came out and everything was fine so they couldn't do anything. A couple days later there were some Comcast trucks at a neighbors house. Same story, everything checked out fine but we started ganging up on the guys complaining about the issues. They placed some calls and a guy on the phone was walking them through what sounded like some advanced tests. I heard him say something about their equipment wouldn't be able to detect whatever it was they were doing. It had something to do with channels. Anyway, they found an issue and problem finally fixed! -- So far. However, I haven't been able to get my Denon AVR or Alexa to connect back to WiFi since the first tech borked up my network. I reset everything back to my original settings but still no go with Alexa or my AVR. Once I reset to the old WiFi settings all the PCs picked them back up like nothing happened. I couldn't get my phone to connect until I forgot the network and rebooted the gateway. I'm starting to wonder if the Arris has some sort of WiFi issue with some devices. I could try a full factory reset on it but I'd rather just take a sledge hammer to it than go through that again. Anyone have any ideas?
