[Rant] Comcast Xfinity stupidity

My mother switched her landline from CenturyLink to Comcast Xfinity. Guy came out and "did the switch". Horrendous. First of all, Comcast assigned her with an out-of-the-blue random new phone number, replacing the one she had been using for 50 years. Fortunately, that was correctable, after I complained. But the installer plugged a basement landline phone into the router box, and decided he was done. Hey, pretty swift. The basement landline phone now can talk to the outside world. The rest of the phones in the house can't! So I connect the basement phone to the phone circuit for the house. Weird stuff happens. You talk to someone on the phone, and while you're talking, you hear a dial tone and or a message machine. The phone rings in odd bursts. Duh? It sounds like, well, there are TWO PHONE LINES connected! Yep, the jerk installer didn't DISCONNECT the CenturyLink line to the street and, of course CenturyLink is going to keep the account active until the end of the month. I call Comcast (fourth time in a week) ... "Hey, when can you guys come out to fix this?" They sweet talk me back with apologies and sympathy, and offer to get a guy out in THREE DAYS. Whaaaat? You've screwed up my phone system entirely, and you're going to walk away from it for three days???? They promise to call back in a half hour to negotiate a quicker visit. They never call back. So I just go outside and rip the CenturyLink wire out of my house line, and hook all phones up to the Comcast line. Everything is fixed. After this episode, my view of Comcast is that they are wholly incompetent. What a bunch of a&&holes.

[Plan] Upgrade Xfinity Internet Plus Plan vs Directv Now $35 plan?

$

I have the Internet Plus plan that includes local channels, plus HBO plus the 75Mb Blast connection for $72.95 per month plus $5 broadcast fee plus taxes. I have 2 Tivo boxes. One with cable card and one OTA that's not connected to Comcast at all. I own my own modem so I don't have modem rental fee. So the total Comcast bill is about $78.50 after credits. I signed up for the DirecTV Now promotion that gives you 100 channels for $35 per month. No extra charges for HD. So, the combined costs come to $113.50. The promotional price doesn't require any term commitment. I was wondering if I could do better upgrading my Internet Plus plan instead. Is there any Xfinity plan available without a contract commitment that would keep what I have in the Internet Plus plan plus add the channels in the 100 channel Directv Now plan, and the cost of Comcast HD fees and the cost of second cable card rental for less than $113.50 including all taxes/fees?

Final Decisons Before Order (Extreme 250)

After about 4 hours of browsing I decided that I would get the.. NetGear CM600 $110 (due to it not being puma 6 and it being 24x8 in the channels) and for my router a Archer C9 $120 (AC1900) I will be ordering the EXTREME 250 have I made the right choices? Also my home hasn't had cable since 2001, I think I will need a tech to come out and run wire from the brown pole to my home. Anything important I should check before placing the order and having them come out and setting everything up? Any important questions to the tech or anything I should have him check?

[OUTAGE] Prorate for lost service?

I live in Petal, MS. Our town was devastated by a tornado at the end of last week. Our neighborhood was spared, but we've been without internet access since Friday night. Repairs to infrastructure - electricity, phone, etc - are more important in the long run, absolutely; since the cable outage could extend for several more days, would Comcast be able to prorate monthly bills for lost service?

[Bill] Question about my promo rate

I have a discount rate applied to my account. It says that this promotional rate will end on February 11th of this year, however does the $131.90 become my new rate thereafter? It seems to be the case as my bill in December showed a rate of $126, but it was actually $4 less next month.

[Equip] Retail Arris TM822G(eMTA) Now Available on Amazon(edit: pending)

Not sure if this has been posted already, but figured I would mention it for those who weren't aware. EDIT: It appears that this was put up prematurely by Amazon based on later posts. It seems that the retail Arris TM822G Comcast 'kit' is now available on Amazon for the price of $149.99 compared to the gateway(TG862) version for $199.99 . https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KVOKVYY/ It seems like it became available on the 9th or so. The box includes - - TM822G - One short and one long coax cable - Ethernet cable - Power cord - 2 way splitter You don't seem to get the battery included. There is currently only one TM822G listed on the approved list at the moment(A.K.A. no 'retail' version listed), so it may cause some problems. Edit: See page 3, it is now approved for retail purchase. It doesn't seem like there are any other higher spec retail eMTA devices at the moment sold by Amazon for Comcast, sadly(unless I missed it). In other news, there is also a new 32x8 AC1750(no voice) Arris SBG7580AC gateway available as well for $229.99 . It is currently pending approval on Comcast. https://www.amazon.com/SURFboard-SBG7580AC-Docsis-AC1750-Router/dp/B01KW9T39C

FYI: Comcast Rolls Out DOCSIS 3.1-Based Gigabit Internet Service For Business Customers In Multiple Markets Unveils Business Internet 1 Gig and Business Internet 500 speed tiers Comcast press release - January 24, 2017 http://corporate.comcast.com/news-information/news-feed/comcast-rolls-out-docsis-3-1-based-gigabit-internet-service-for-business-customers-in-multiple-marketsquote:Comcast Business today announced it has begun offering DOCSIS 3.1-based internet service to business customers in its Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Nashville service areas. "Business Internet 1 Gig" and "Business Internet 500" speed tiers are now available to thousands of business customers in these Comcast service areas using the company’s existing network, without costly and disruptive construction of new network facilities. "With more business operations moving to a cloud-based model, staying ahead of the bandwidth curve will be an important part of an organization’s migration strategy," said Matt Davis, program director for IDC. "DOCSIS 3.1-based internet will give small, medium and even larger organizations the opportunity to quickly add more network capacity at their locations, supporting new technology applications on-site or in the cloud." For small and mid-sized businesses in buildings already served by Comcast, upgrading to Business Internet 1 Gig or Business Internet 500 is as simple as calling Comcast or visiting business.comcast.com/gig to change their service, and ordering a new modem. Gigabit service over DOCSIS 3.1 benefits many industries such as retail, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, education and government. : In addition to the markets announced today, Comcast Business plans to launch Business Internet 1 Gig and Business Internet 500 in the majority of its service areas throughout 2017 and into 2018. Pricing for the services varies based on a business’s location or number of locations to be served and the services to which the business currently subscribes, and customers can contact their local Comcast salesperson or agent/partner for more information.&nbsp Also an article on MCN about this: http://www.multichannel.com/news/cable-operators/comcast-gets-down-business-docsis-31/410373quote:... Pricing for those tiers vary based on customer needs, and include features that are tailored for business customers, including guaranteed up time, night and weekend installation windows, no data plans, static IP addresses, and 24/7 support from business service experts, but general pricing starts at $499 per month for the 1-Gig service, and $399 for the 500 Mbps offering. ...

I'm wondering if there's anything to be done about the poor SNR readings on 2 of my 8 downstream channels. When I first got this service at my new house installed a few weeks ago, all reading were 35dB or better... [Rant] Please stop harassing me about my "obsolete" modem

So Comcast must really hate having people own their own modem. I have a TM822G Docis 3.0 modem going on two years and I have been getting emails and phone calls saying my modem "must" be upgraded. I have called and asked why I am getting these calls - crickets on the other end. I have had CSRs tell me that modem doesn't exist to "just ignore it". But this is symptomatic of a larger issue. I am afraid that one day my service will stop working and it will be a battle getting it turned back on. This kinda of treatment makes me want to cancel my voice service and switch to OOMA or some other VOIP provider. Ahhhh - please make it stop...

Comcast already bad experience

My families business was on Centurylink and paying $200 for 2 phone lines and a 20 mbps internet connection. 1 phone line is for a voice line and the other is for our credit card terminal. Comcast is charging use $115 for the same setup but 25 mbps (getting 30mbps). Comcast came (I wasn't there) and installed. I go in to work and I notice online that we had a ton of missed calls (online). I check and our phone can dial out but no calls in. Credit card terminal works very slow. I restarted the arris modem and card machine works fine but voice still down. We have 2 modems. One for internet (which is fine) and one for our voice lines. Lost approx. $300-$500 in orders today because customers could not call in. My parents (the owners) are pissed. One thing I noticed was that when I dialed out there was the normal dial tone and another voice in the background telling me voicemail for this number was not setup (I tested called my cellphone that doesn't have voice mail setup). I think this might be because we have 2 phone lines and somehow they are mixed into one or something. I notice that Comcast business will give us bill credit for service interruption. How much credit can I get to offset the loss we had today? They said they would get a tech out in the morning before we open again. Internet is great, but the whole phone line and losing a bunch of money is irritating. Another thing is that we are paying $400 early termination fee to go to comcast and we would be saving $85 per month. That $400 would take close to 4 months to recoup but I need to add todays loss as well taking almost 9 months to recoup all the money we are paying to go to comcast.
