So I'm thinking I should just change my IP address. However, I have a comcast issued DPC3941T modem. So I can't mess with the MAC address to force a new IP.
I tried calling Comcast, but they don't seem to understand what I'm asking. After talking to two separate "techs", all they had me do was release and renew my Windows IP address. I knew that they weren't getting my question, but humored them and said they solved my problem so I could get off the phone and try to find a real answer.
What is my next step? It can't be this much of a hastle to change my IP.
Here is a link to my post created here yesterday before deciding on changing my IP. Doing what was suggested here did not stop the problem.

[Install] Testing cable pre-hook up and other questions?
I'm trying to help a friend test out Comcast HSI. She has a retail ARRIS 6141, but doesn't know if the cable she's gonna hook up to it is hooked up at the pole. She has no active Comcast account, either yet. I believe she had cable at one point, but gave it up for AT&T DSL And Direct TV. AT&T's flaking, so she wants to switch to Comcast. Since she doesn't have an active account, if the cable is hooked up at the pole, what would the modem show us, anything?
Or should we just have Comcast out anyway? She already has a Asus AC68U for the router and will use the 6141 for a time until she gets a feel whether she likes Comcast or not. Definitely no need or want for another gateway.
Also, what's the best way of getting hooked up with a Comcast internet only deal? Calling in or doing it online pre-DC of her U-verse Internet service? If she goes with Comcast, she'll be on Performance or Perf Pro (Whatever they call the standard package these days)

[Price] Price Increase
Well I received my letter from Comcast today announcing that they are raising prices effective February 15, 2017. I live in Central Indiana by the way still no word on any internet speed increase for this area. Getting tired of this. The price for a gigabit install is something like 500.00 dollars and think it said the service itself is like 300.00 dollars. Glad some can afford this, I sure can't.

[Equip] Voice modem
Hi All,
My voice modem no longer works when I lose power even with a battery backup. This happened after Comcast installed a whole house amp a few years back when we got X1. Is there anyway to loosen the coax on the splitter to see if I can get it working? My wrenches are too big to fit around the black seal. I guess this is for water proofing? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Speed] How to get help on Upload speed problem
I have xfinity for both TV and internet (blast! tier). I've normally had good speedtest numbers - consistently around 90 download and 12 upload. About a week ago I noticed some odd behavior on browsing and using roku - a long lag when requesting a page or video, but after the delay the page pops up or the video plays without issue. I went ahead an ran a speedtest (same server I always use) and saw good downloads, but the upload was only testing at about 0.15. I used xfinity technical assistance chat and the guy did all the basic stuff (had me power modem & router off, he did a reset, had me connect a PC directly to the modem, etc.), at one point my uploads came back to normal but fell off again before we disconnected. When he suggested I uninstall my browser and reinstall it, I pretty much bailed. When the problem occurs I can see it on all devices (wired or wireless) which includes 4 PCs (3 windows, 1 linux) and several cell phones. The problem is very unpredictable and will come and go. The xfinity guy said he looked at my modem and signals & health were good and no history of issues in their system.
I have a basic knowledge of what is OK on my modem's diagnostic and they do look normal. I had a similar (but worse) problem several months ago when the technician that eventually visited admitted they had a "suckout" in the lines and had to call a line tech. I'd like to find out who I can contact to see if the issue can be confirmed (I did get such great feedback from the local tech supervisor who called me to confirm the previous problem). I'm hesitant to call for a tech because this problem is intermittent and last time they tried to charge me for an "install" when the problem was actually in their distribution wiring. It took a good month and several calls to finally get the errant charges cleared.
Any suggestions?

[Connectivity] Replacing Firewall with Router
I've tried to recently replace my family's ASA 5505 with a Cisco 1941 ISR. For some reason I'm having a heck of a time to get it to pull a dhcp address. Does any other Cisco users have issues with Comcast? I have my own cable modem too it's a arris sb6180 I think.

[Speed] Side Discussion on New speed tiers in 2016
I noticed this page while looking at the bill.
Beginning from March 16th, Performance Pro and Blast! Pro are available for speeds up to 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps respectively.
I currently have Blast! (150/10) plan with Comcast and seems like this service won't be available for new subscriptions but replaced with Blast! Pro etc.
I'm in Sacramento, California region. Did anyone else receive similar notice on their bill?
Could this also mean free speed upgrades as well?

[Rant] Comcast Xfinity stupidity
My mother switched her landline from CenturyLink to Comcast Xfinity. Guy came out and "did the switch". Horrendous. First of all, Comcast assigned her with an out-of-the-blue random new phone number, replacing the one she had been using for 50 years. Fortunately, that was correctable, after I complained. But the installer plugged a basement landline phone into the router box, and decided he was done. Hey, pretty swift. The basement landline phone now can talk to the outside world. The rest of the phones in the house can't! So I connect the basement phone to the phone circuit for the house. Weird stuff happens. You talk to someone on the phone, and while you're talking, you hear a dial tone and or a message machine. The phone rings in odd bursts. Duh? It sounds like, well, there are TWO PHONE LINES connected! Yep, the jerk installer didn't DISCONNECT the CenturyLink line to the street and, of course CenturyLink is going to keep the account active until the end of the month. I call Comcast (fourth time in a week) ... "Hey, when can you guys come out to fix this?" They sweet talk me back with apologies and sympathy, and offer to get a guy out in THREE DAYS. Whaaaat? You've screwed up my phone system entirely, and you're going to walk away from it for three days???? They promise to call back in a half hour to negotiate a quicker visit. They never call back.
So I just go outside and rip the CenturyLink wire out of my house line, and hook all phones up to the Comcast line. Everything is fixed.
After this episode, my view of Comcast is that they are wholly incompetent. What a bunch of a&&holes.

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service
Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626
If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek
The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

[Equip] 6120 Modem
I finally upgraded my 6/1 package to 25/5 last week. I noticed that both my download and upload speeds were still terribly slow. I powercycled the modem and connected directly to the modem and had the same slow speeds (3/1). I have been getting these speeds for quite some time now.
I know the 6120 is EOL, but it should still handle the 25/5 speeds. Any troubleshooting steps I can do? Or are the slow speeds indicative that I need to finally get a new modem?

[Install] I talked to Comcast Friday about new internet service add on
I have comcast tv and I told them I wanted to add internet service.
First they would not add anything but I could get a new service with tv and internet bundle with a contract of 2 years. I don't have a contract. Well we can't just add service.
I waited a few hours and called back.
Yes we can add it. Hey looking up I THOUGHT.
Its $69.95
WHAT ?????
ok just to make sure I explained to her, all I need is to have it activated I have the cable run, a splitter and a linksys DPC3008 modem (was on sale at amazon for $18)
she had to check.
She came back and said that it would be $49.99 but that modem is not on our list.
Wait it says Comcast certified on the box and comcast people were recommending it.
Sorry but its not on the list.
Anyone have any ideas about adding internet service
I have digital starter using a cable card and windows media center and get hd channels for $30 a month.
Right now I have u-verse internet and its 21Mb at $57 a month and now my service resets 5 or 6 times a day. My pings are not bad I am just wanting to test this without a contract so if it sucks I can tell them to drop it.

[Firmware] Problems with the new 6190 firmware 9.1.93N
Anyone having sporadic packet errors or other issues after getting the new firmware? For 3 days in a row now, my IPsec VPNs go down, complaining about bad packet headers and bad length fields. When this happens, the modem web UI will be very slow to respond. Each time, I reset the modem and traffic restores immediately, only to have issues reappear within 24 hours. Happened right after getting the firmware, nothing else has changed on my end.
I have tried swapping Ethernet cables, switches, and using different routers & VPN endpoint devices. Seems almost like an encapsulation problem....

[Connectivity] Fluctuations in internet speed and high bufferbloat
Hello all,
I've been noticing some hitches in my download speed and also when I'm playing games online occasionally. I just recently ran a speed test with my laptop directly connected to my modem. The bufferbloat is very high, reaching around 1000 ms if I remember correctly. Additionally my download speeds will reach around 25-30 mbps then drop very low which I've seen when downloading games and such.
Is there anyway to fix these issues especially with the bufferbloat? Also does anyone know if it is possible to manually change the DNS that the modem will pull (I know how to change this on my router), I was just interested in seeing if changing that would have any effect.
Both my pingtest and speedtest are attached.

Accessing gateway without PC
So a friend just signed up for new service and opted for the self-install kit. There's just one problem, we've overlooked the fact that he does not have a functioning PC to hardwire to the gateway to gain access to it and setup the WiFi. Is there any way to gain access to the gateway through a tablet or a phone without having a hardwired PC?

[Signals] Why are channels 17-24 immune to correctable errors?
Netgear CM600 modem, Winder, GA area.
I've noticed this before. Channels 1-16 get a handful of correctable errors - no big deal. What's odd is that channels 17-24 seem immune - they never seems to get correctables even if the lower channels are up in the hundreds.
Is this believable? Is each set of 8 channels handled by a different internal chip, and could the third chip be more forgiving?
This seems too consistent to be just random.

[Equip] email about new modem

[Equip] Want to buy my own modem/router but I have Comcast voice. How?
I have Cisco DPC3941T that I use as the modem, router, and have my phone lines running off of.
I don't like it at all and want to purchase my own modem/router for better logging and more options. However, I'm not sure how doing that would work as having Comcast voice complicates the issue. Only a few modems are listed on Comcast's site that are approved for voice, and the one I have seems to be the best out of those options anyway.
Is there any way to use my current modem to only supply voice and then buy a third party modem/router for internet?
What other options do I have for EMTA modems that work with Comcast voice? Getting rid of my home phone is not an option and switching phone providers isn't either.
Do some newer EMTA modems support voice but just aren't listed by Comcast?
Thanks for any help provided.
