[Account] Decrease speed tier under contract?

$

I signed a 1 year contract in the fall of 2016 for "Internet Plus 25 Choice" and Extreme 250 for an additional $30. My total monthly bill is 79.99 prior to taxes and whatnot. After having Extreme 250 for a few months, it's dawned on me that I don't really use the additional speeds and was wondering if I can downgrade my speed to Blast or Performance while under a contract. The obvious answer is "no, you're under a contract, idiot", but was just curious if anyone here has tried doing this without facing a penalty? I have no problems with keeping my Extreme 250 til the end of contract.

What a great renewal experience!

Yesterday I went to the local Xfinity office within walking distance of my house. I explained I was coming off a new customer promotion for internet only, Performance 75/5 service and wanted to know what my renewal options were. I fully expected a upsell job for TV and/or a big price increase. The clerk took my account information and ID. He pulled up my account and said "done". I said what? He said he was able to renew me for the same price/service level for another year. The whole process took less then a minute. What a pleasant surprise after many years of having to call Centuylink loyalty and play negotiation games with them. I don't know if I was just lucky, but this went far smoother then I ever thought it would. The service has been great lately and I just got a speed increase. Just needed to post about a great customer service experience!

[Signals] Seeing extremely high flucations in DS Power Levels

Hey everyone, I am seeing a massive flux in downstream power levels. Jumping between +5-10 dBmV every 10 to 15 minutes. Has anyone experienced this before? I believe it has something to do with the bitter cold and snow that might be affecting the coax. Some of you may recall I redid my demarcation point awhile back in the summer to combat my high upstream power levels with an active amp. (see photos)

when you reboot the cable modem does it make a difference which upstream channel it grabs first, because the lower frequency channels always have a higher upstream level.

[Price] Price Increase

Well I received my letter from Comcast today announcing that they are raising prices effective February 15, 2017. I live in Central Indiana by the way still no word on any internet speed increase for this area. Getting tired of this. The price for a gigabit install is something like 500.00 dollars and think it said the service itself is like 300.00 dollars. Glad some can afford this, I sure can't.

[Signals] 1% packet loss consistently. Makes it impossible to broadcast

Hi! I am located in Chicago, IL The issue is constant Modem Info: Model Name: SB6141 Vendor Name: Motorola Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.16-SCM00-NOSH Issue happens with/without router. Problem: Since the start of December I have had issues with about 1% packet loss. I have had 3 techs visit, none of which have solved the problem. A splitter was removed, a completely new line was run for me and no resolution. Here is a screenshot from pingplotter showing what I am seeing: https://share.pingplotter.com/X2i16jHTFQa I would appreciate any help to get this resolved!

[Price] Internet service dropped $2 this month

Never thought I'd see a price drop from Comcast but my internet (performance plan - 25Mbps) actually fell $2 this month. Of course, some cable TV prices (I dropped cable a year ago so not affected) went up a lot. The broadcast TV fee (whatever that is) went from $5 to $7 and the regional sports fee went from $3 to $5 so were I a cable supplier, the overall cost would have gone up.

Gigabit Pro now $149/month?

Was absentmindedly scrolling through my upgrade offers today, and came across the attached: seems Gigabit Pro is now being offered at $149/mo for 24 months with no install fees (see attached screenshot). I'm in a DC new construction (mid-2016) MDU. Put the order through... will report back on what happens. But has anyone else seen this pricing? Online ordering?

Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response ARRIS SB6190

Hello forum, I have a arris sb6190 with firmware 9.1.93N. I was looking at my logs and every 15 seconds a Priority 3 log entry is logged and repeated: Fri Jan 13 11:41:29 2017 3 Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response - Retries exhausted; Fri Jan 13 11:41:32 2017 3 Ranging Request Retries exhausted; If I clear the log and reboot it happens again with at least 30 entries long until it runs out of space every 15 seconds. The cable drop is from the mainline connected directly to my modem with RG11 cable, no splitters, or amps. Comcast sent over a technician to check signals and wires and everything was said to be fine. I called Comcast and the technical support rep checked my signals and said if your getting internet everything is fine, and that these Ranging Request logs were just glitches. I wrote this post to see if this could be true are they just glitches that show up in the log entries, is this a common problem with this modem sb6190 or is it because there is noise in the upstream signal coming from and amplifier gone bad or from the Comcast CMTS (head-end) and I should try to get it fixed. Should I be concerned as long as everything works okay? Keep renting Cisco DPC3939 or not, suggestions.

Hi, I got somewhat peeved off at the recent price changes to my service. So I changed my service and looked for other ways to cut the price. Yeah that darn rental fee for how many years now? So I purchased a tg862 because I need the telephone service. Well I found out this thing blows, I am spoiled by the WIFI on the 3939(no legal way to purchase). the TG862 has very poor range and slow connections compared to the 3939. In fact some devices with built in antennas like my IMAC just one room over is not usable. I also have so many wireless devices that the TG862 gets very slow, 1 Mbps slow on the wireless like it just does not know what to do. I never had this problem before. I was thinking about buying something like a TP‑LINK Archer C7 AC1750 Wireless Router and putting the TG862 into bridge mode. I am sure that will solve my connection range issues but I do not know if this setup will be as good as the Cisco DPC3939 for all my devices as it has always worked flawlessly. Do I keep spending money on more equipment or just pay the $10 rent? Wired connections as about the same on both devices, 120 Mbps.

TM822G "LINK" Light Weird Pattern?

$

Hello, For those who own a TM822G with their own router I have a question. I am used to with a past ISP the "LINK" light on the front would blink constantly with a router attached, which makes sense to me. However with Comcast it blinks for a few seconds and stops then starts again and stops, etc. The light never goes out just starts and stops. I may be paranoid or just overthinking but does anyone else have this?

[Connectivity] Constant T3 Time-outs a month after tech replaced modem.

Modem = Cisco DPC3941T On 12/12 I had a Comcast tech come out and replace my modem. Since then everything was working great until the last couple of days when the same problem that prompted the tech visit started happening again. I am getting dropped connections/lag every minute or so and the problem seems to be worse than it ever was before the tech came out. I don't understand how I can have a tech come out and check the signals, replace the modem, have everything work fine for a month, and then all of a sudden the exact same problem returns....I'm also confused by the firewall logs. Is that related to the T3 time-outs? Comcast phone support was useless and although I could schedule another tech, I don't want to have them come out and then say everything is fixed only for me to have these same issues another month down the line. Any ideas?

[Connectivity] I suddenly seem to have no 'background' traffic

This morning, I noticed that my modem and router's Link lights were mostly solid, rarely blinking. Normally, they are flickering to blinking almost constantly due to ARP(?) packets in the background. I did some testing, and everything is working fine. Nothing logged in the modem. No channel changes or similar. I guess that just means there is little background traffic requests (do they mainly come in on the modem's main channel?), or Comcast is suddenly filtering it? A bit odd and makes me keep thinking it's lost access and is trying to resync.

[Equip] FWIW-The Arris TG3482ER(XB6) Just Went Through FCC Testing

For whoever is interested, the TG3482 has just gone through FCC testing. This is Comcast's XB6 wireless gateway. As I mentioned in the past, this gateway limited Ethernet ports. The TG3482 has two Ethernet, two RJ-11 phone ports, and the obvious coax connector. It's DOCSIS 3.1 gateway, as many of you might already have known. It also includes a 8x8 wireless AC 5 GHz radio, paired with a 2x2 wireless N 2.4 GHz radio(kind of lopsided lol). FCC testing mentions it has ZigBee as well as Bluetooth. Maybe I'm missing something, but the testing doesn't mention 8x8 on the 5 GHz radio being tested though. It only seems to say that 6x8 was tested. https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=XgvXTjBAEjMi3e0MnfBU1Q%3D%3D&fcc_id=UIDTG3482ER It also seems to support Thread.

[Equip] Comcast, can you keep your paws off my cable modem?

I just bought a new cable modem (SB6141) from Newegg. When I went to the Motorola interface at http://192.168.100.1/ I saw the restart cable modem button was there in Configuration unlike my old modem! [att=1] This was the info from the help page before Comcast activation: Model Name: SB6141Vendor Name: MotorolaFirmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM03-NOSHBoot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK)(W) 1.0.12.18m5Hardware Version: 8.0Serial Number: xxxFirmware Build Time: Jan 22 2015 14:31:03 I had to call Comcast to activate it. They updated the firmware to: Model Name: SB6141Vendor Name: MotorolaFirmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.16-SCM00-NOSHBoot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK)(W) 1.0.12.18m5Hardware Version: 8.0Serial Number: xxxFirmware Build Time: Feb 16 2016 11:28:04 and now the restart cable modem button was gone: [att=2] Comcast needs to keep their hands off of my hardware. I like to sometimes restart my cable modem without having to go physically unplug it. Has anyone been able to get the button back by downgrading the firmware or something? If so, how?

[Business] Juniper SRX Firewall not getting DHCP IP

So I just received a new Juniper SRX 300 to use. But I am having trouble with getting an IPv4 DHCP IP. I see the SRX send out the request via a tcpdump and in the trace logs but Comcast never responds with a reply. I have reset my Arris SB6141 multiple times and it has not helped. Seem to be very intermittent when I do get an IP. Anyone out there using an SRX with Comcast and is there anything special in the client options that may be needed with Comcast. [IPv6] Business static IPv6 Deployment Status

Anyone know what the status of this is? The last info I have seen was that it should be fully deployed by early 4th quarter 2016. This was off the business forums and it has been crickets since. Another question is the requirements for static IPv6. Will it require a static IPv4 block? Will they be charging for it separately if one does not want or need static IPv4? I was one of the original testers and I have heard nothing since the trials ended.

[Connectivity] splitter effect on signal stats

$

In 2013, a Comcast tech replaced my Ubee with an Arris modem and installed a terminated splitter to get good power levels. [att=2] Since, I've used a 5341j and, now, SB6183. I've been using that same splitter but downstream no longer centers on 0 dBmV. I only look occasionally but it seems to always be around +7 and errors accumulate. For fun, I took that splitter out. The 6183 synced up quickly but DS power went up. [att=1] So, the splitter is helping but I wonder if something different could make for better signal stats, fewer errors.
