[Equip] Comcast, can you keep your paws off my cable modem?

I just bought a new cable modem (SB6141) from Newegg. When I went to the Motorola interface at http://192.168.100.1/ I saw the restart cable modem button was there in Configuration unlike my old modem! [att=1] This was the info from the help page before Comcast activation: Model Name: SB6141Vendor Name: MotorolaFirmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM03-NOSHBoot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK)(W) 1.0.12.18m5Hardware Version: 8.0Serial Number: xxxFirmware Build Time: Jan 22 2015 14:31:03 I had to call Comcast to activate it. They updated the firmware to: Model Name: SB6141Vendor Name: MotorolaFirmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.16-SCM00-NOSHBoot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK)(W) 1.0.12.18m5Hardware Version: 8.0Serial Number: xxxFirmware Build Time: Feb 16 2016 11:28:04 and now the restart cable modem button was gone: [att=2] Comcast needs to keep their hands off of my hardware. I like to sometimes restart my cable modem without having to go physically unplug it. Has anyone been able to get the button back by downgrading the firmware or something? If so, how?

[Account] How to get internet at an address that's red flagged

I was trying to get internet service at my sisters house for my niece could do school work. They've been tethering to her phone and using all the data. Now my sister and her husband are very bad with money. Most people would turn off a service before they can't pay. Not them, they kept it on long enough to get it disconnected. I put there address in on comcast website and it wouldn't come up. I did a web chat and found out the address is red flagged for non payment. I talked with comcast, wowway and at&t and they are all red flagged because of owing money at the address. I don't mind paying $15-20 a month for internet but how hard is it going to be to get service in my name at there address?

[WiFi] Did Comcast do something to my modem that affected my wifi?

I feel dumb even asking this question, but this is why I'm asking. I upgraded my internet to Extreme 150 on January 2. The sales person said it would go into effect on January 3. I never got the email confirmation so I started speed checking on the night of January 3rd, just to see if the increase had gone in. That's when I noticed some extreme fluctuations. I figured the speed increase hadn't gone through, but I continued to test on the 4th with the same results. For an example, ethernet showed speeds between 50 and 130, and wireless was anywhere from less than 1 to 180. Finally I started a text chat on the 5th to see if there was a problem. The technician said that the SNR was too low (around 25) and that he would push something through and reboot the modem. At one point he asked me "Do you use ethernet or wifi?" I told him I use both, and he said ok. I'm not sure why he asked that question. Anyway, after he pushed through his update everything broke. The router stopped talking to the modem and I had to run the internet connection wizard to get them connected again. Since then, the ethernet seems to have stabilized. My two gigabit machines are showing the correct speeds and my 100MB machine is maxed out. My wifi, however, is destroyed. as an example, last night I got speeds of 25.93, 16.34, 7.59, 12.05, .23, 7.49, 10.41, 1.33. All of those results were between 8pm and midnight last night on my tablet sitting in my living room which is directly below the room where the router and modem live. I was switching back and forth between the 2.4 and 5GHz bands to see if that made any difference. Just as a comparison, when I was still on 75Mbps internet (Blast?) I consistently got speeds in the 80s on my tablet in the same area. Is there any chance that the push to my modem broke something?

[Account] Decrease speed tier under contract?

I signed a 1 year contract in the fall of 2016 for "Internet Plus 25 Choice" and Extreme 250 for an additional $30. My total monthly bill is 79.99 prior to taxes and whatnot. After having Extreme 250 for a few months, it's dawned on me that I don't really use the additional speeds and was wondering if I can downgrade my speed to Blast or Performance while under a contract. The obvious answer is "no, you're under a contract, idiot", but was just curious if anyone here has tried doing this without facing a penalty? I have no problems with keeping my Extreme 250 til the end of contract.

[Speed] Keep loosing upload after 250Mbps upgrade

$

I was always getting a good connection on the 200Mbps connection using the Netgear C6300 wireless gateway. I upgrade to the 205Mbps and now I am loosing my upload but, not the download connection. When the upload goes out I have no internet what so ever. Resetting my gateway helps for an hour or so before the upload starts going out. How could a simple upgrade cause this??? My computer is hooked up to the gateway vs the Ethernet port using cat7 Ethernet. I know there is nothing wrong with the coaxial between my gateway and the wall outlet because it worked fine untill I had my speed upgraded. I'm having to use my T-Mobile Smartphone for everything now.

[IPv6] Anyone else noticing any IPv6 issues?

Looks like I lost it here in central AR. I initially rebooted everything just in case. After a reboot even the router is not showing an IPv6 address. Neither of the IPv6 test sites show it working here either. Also DSLR is very sluggish now. Took me several attempts to even get the dialog up for me to post a new topic. I initially began noticing something amiss when the little notification in the bottom left of Firefox is showing what is loading. While on DSLR I see "waiting on Facebook". I know something is amiss with IPv6 when I see those weird things.

I'm relatively new to Xfinity, but have what seems to be a broad range between channels 1 - 24. Most that I've seen seem to stay within a few db, but I have a range of about 6-7 from my highest to lowest.

[WiFi] Modem Frustration - Which One to Get?? Options

$

Some background... I recently upgraded to Performance Pro, Triple Play to get my monthly costs lowered. I had a Surfboard SB6120 set-up (and still have it, boxed up in the closet). I decided that I might as well use the phone service, so I purchased the Arris TG862G-CT (purchased via Amazon). I received it, called in to activate, plugged in my AirPort (I'm an Apple guy, and wanted to continue using this for my WiFi). The Comcast guy said that he put the new modem in bridge mode so that the AirPort would work. Everything seemed find for a bit over a month, and then my connection kept dropping. I called Comcast, they re-set the modem. They also said that the modem wasn't in bridge mode and that they would do it for me. Continued problems. Called the next day. Comcast again re-set the modem, and told me that it wasn't in bridge mode. They said that since I bought the modem, that Comcast wasn't able to put it into bridge mode, that I'd have to do this myself (despite what I was told in my previous calls!). Still problems, so I was finally able to get logged into the modem account online, and clicked Enable for bridge mode. It seemed to work for about 2 hours, and then more drops. Finally, I decided to disconnect the AirPort and use the modem's WiFi. Well, it works, but my speed has been reduced. I'm getting maybe 25% up/download speeds. I am completely frustrated. I'd love to go back to my AirPort for WiFi. What's the best Comcast modem for Performance Pro (or better)? The Arris TG862G-CT seems to be pretty much a doorstop. I don't us the phone service, so that doesn't need to be a factor. Thank you!

So I renewed my business contract with Comcast last week and the lady in retention said that my upgraded speed should be effective, Monday the 9th. This is my first contract renewal and I would like to hear from other members about their experience when they renewed their contract. How long did it take for the new speed to get activated?

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service

Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626 If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense? [Equip] FWIW-The Arris TG3482ER(XB6) Just Went Through FCC Testing

$

For whoever is interested, the TG3482 has just gone through FCC testing. This is Comcast's XB6 wireless gateway. As I mentioned in the past, this gateway limited Ethernet ports. The TG3482 has two Ethernet, two RJ-11 phone ports, and the obvious coax connector. It's DOCSIS 3.1 gateway, as many of you might already have known. It also includes a 8x8 wireless AC 5 GHz radio, paired with a 2x2 wireless N 2.4 GHz radio(kind of lopsided lol). FCC testing mentions it has ZigBee as well as Bluetooth. Maybe I'm missing something, but the testing doesn't mention 8x8 on the 5 GHz radio being tested though. It only seems to say that 6x8 was tested. https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=XgvXTjBAEjMi3e0MnfBU1Q%3D%3D&fcc_id=UIDTG3482ER It also seems to support Thread.

[Equip] Retail Arris TM822G(eMTA) Now Available on Amazon(edit: pending)

Not sure if this has been posted already, but figured I would mention it for those who weren't aware. EDIT: It appears that this was put up prematurely by Amazon based on later posts. It seems that the retail Arris TM822G Comcast 'kit' is now available on Amazon for the price of $149.99 compared to the gateway(TG862) version for $199.99 . https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KVOKVYY/ It seems like it became available on the 9th or so. The box includes - - TM822G - One short and one long coax cable - Ethernet cable - Power cord - 2 way splitter You don't seem to get the battery included. There is currently only one TM822G listed on the approved list at the moment(A.K.A. no 'retail' version listed), so it may cause some problems. It doesn't seem like there are any other higher spec retail eMTA devices at the moment sold by Amazon for Comcast, sadly(unless I missed it). In other news, there is also a new 32x8 AC1750(no voice) Arris SBG7580AC gateway available as well for $229.99 . It is currently pending approval on Comcast. https://www.amazon.com/SURFboard-SBG7580AC-Docsis-AC1750-Router/dp/B01KW9T39C
