My parents are a bit elderly but they pay their bills. I noticed recently after my mom complained about the cost of the Comcast Services per month (nothing unusual everyone does).... She said that "they are turning our internet speed down to the 50-75mbps plan."
I got to thinking... umm I believe we have always had that anyway, because our modem which is an older Arris is a Docsis 2.0 and tops out on speedtests around 35-50mbps anyway.
In June we received an email from Xfinity, asking if we'd like to Upgrade to Blast! for free, they'd send us a NEW Docsis 3.0 modem. We accepted. On 7/16/2015 we received it, hooked it up, activated it.. and yes our average speeds off our speed-test site went from 35-40mbps to about 120mbps. Pretty awesome, however it only lasted 2 weeks. They shut our services off because we did not pay our bill on time. We called up and paid that same morning, they turned everything back on (TV, phone, Internet)... everything popped on within 5 minutes... besides the Internet.
I spent all day with their tech support trying to get the NEW Cisco Modem back online, it would not stay connected for more than 5 minutes at a time without resetting itself, they (support) blamed the modem, LUCKILY I had our old Arris modem in the box as I did not send it back yet, we hooked it back up and everything was back to normal.
I checked our Comcast Billing Statements back to last year, they charged us for Comcast's High Speed Internet "service" all of last year, the last month being billed for it was October (shown on the November Statement).
The December statement that explains your previous month's bill, November, was when they started charging us for Blast! Internet Service... my understanding of the difference in plans is Blast! is their 150mbps download plan, and HSI is their "average" 50mbps download plan... I am not sure the pricing difference as it is conveniently "bundled" into one of their many little "Xfinity Services Packages".
So we basically got 2 weeks of Blast! service. We've been charged for Blast! since November 2014 up until this month (Sept 15). We did not even get notified that we got changed to Blast! until about June, via an email to our 3 email accounts. It asked us if we wanted a New Modem for "Free", we said yes. We got in July 16th, hooked it up... and disconnected it July 29th (more like they disconnected it).
So all these months they charged us for Blast! instead of "regular" HSI-High Speed Internet, I am not sure of the difference in the plan because by just looking at their statements they hide the prices really good. You can tell that the Modem Rental is $8.00 a month, that the Landline Telephone is $10.00 a month, but the Xfinity Bundle Services Package sometimes says:
Sept 2015: "HD Premier XF Bundle $214.99" and lists the channels you get, Starz, HBO, then throws in Blast! Internet, Xfinity Unlimited Voice"
Oct 2014: "HD Premier XF $159.99" same deal, lists channels Stars, HBO, High Speed Internet, Digital Voice Unlimited."
I'll provide a better breakdown below... whenever Comcast is questioned about these packages, or services, they will say you received a "promotion from x to y..." and you can see sometimes on the bills... unfortunately there is a different promotion every month or so... sigh.
It looks like the difference of about $55'sh per month based on the Blast! vs HSI, because you'll see below the services, channels, etc.. are all basically the same. I know what channels we've had for the past 20 years here, the same ones....
Anyway maybe this helps below... but sorry for the long post, but does anyone know the exact prices of the Blast! vs HSI, the packages, we want the cheapest from Comcast... because they've been charging us $204.00USD one month, then $214.00 the next, and one time $244.00 for a month and said our "promotion ended"... We've thought about Verizon, but it's basically C vs V in this area, just the 2 providers for TV/Internet... same services, and very similar prices...

Need assistance with dslr/comcast/firefox (FIXED)
Feel free to move this to the mozilla forum if more appropriate...
After 4 months I finally got a dual modem for the boost speed.... and now have spent over 1 hour online trying to get rid of the activation page that has completely taken over firefox homepage which was dslr postlist.
Apparently this is too much for the comcast people to figure out. Can anyone else help me or am I to simply use PaleMoon to go to my homepage from now on?
Even when I click on Posts after getting on dslreports...I get Comcast Activation screen so I have no way to set my homepage if I can't get to it. :(

[Connectivity] IPv6 download speed slow compared to IPv4
Here is a link of a recent speed test http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/1054059544.png. IPv6 speeds will run any where from 25 meg up to 60, but never higher. IPv4 has no problems. I have no other connection issues and was wondering if my modem needs a different config file for IPv6 to work as IPv4. You can contact me here or at erakster@comcast.net. Thanks in advance for any help.

[IPv6] IP4 & IP6 in speed test no longer
I've posted quite a bit these past two days trying to set up and understand my new Airport router and upgraded Comcast service. I've found that NOT allowing "automatic" router selection of 2.4/5.0 but rather manual selection of specific channels has made a big improvement is speeds and consistency.
I've also noticed that I no longer get BOTH IP4/IP6 results when running the Xfinity speedtest; now I get just the IPv4 speedtest results. I confirmed this with an IP testing app. Does anyone know why IPv6 is no longer used?
I'm not complaining; just curious and trying to learn as much as I can about this arcane subject.
Thanks.

[Equip] TC8305C WiFi on in Bridge Mode
It seems like the TC8305C is still broadcasting WiFi even though it is in bridge mode. I am pretty certain I turned WiFi off before I put it into bridge mode. It does not appear have a HOME SSID but I think I have seen it as a hidden network. According to the modem log it keeps changing the channel.

Should I just ignore it? We were having issues with the Internet being slow this morning and I noticed that it probably went down last night according to the modem log (probably for maintenance). I rebooted my router via SSH and it seems to be a lot better.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Comcast modem signal decision
Hi, I'm in the Nashville, Tn area and have Comcast Blast service (75/10) with an HDTV set top box
We've just moved into a rental home, and through the years there apparently have been numerous re-wirings of the house for various tenants. I did a self-install and got terrible signal levels, then had a tech come and fix the issue. He sort-of did, but there were still issues and he mislabeled where the connections were going.
I only have 1 modem and 1 HDTV box in this home (both located almost ideally in the center of the home upstairs) as that's all we require since my GF & our kids have numerous iPads, iPhones, Macs, Apple TVs, etc. Wifi signal is strong in every room.
Today, I was frustrated with my modem signals being so low again when I checked them, so I decided to go all around the house myself and see if I could eliminate some unnecessary splitters. As it stands, I currently have the line coming to the house, connecting via a coupler (not a splitter) to a long cable that runs into the living room, and then to a single splitter where the HDTV box and modem are both connected. It's working ok, but I'm wondering if this setup will give me headaches in the future. Current modem readings are:
Downstream
Ch 1 -8.2 dBmV 39.9 SNR
Ch 2 -8.5 dBmV 39.0 SNR
Ch 3 -8.7 dBmV 39.0 SNR
Ch 4 -9.3 dBmV 38.9 SNR
Ch 5 -9.9 dBmV 38.6 SNR
Ch 6 -10.5 dBmV 38.3 SNR
Ch 7 -11.2 dBmV 38.2 SNR
Ch 8 -12.1 dBmV 37.2 SNR
Upstream
Ch 1 49.0 dBmV
Ch 2 44.5 dBmV
Ch 3 46.5 dBmV
If I disconnect the splitter to the TV and plug the modem straight in, obviously my signal levels get better (in the -4 dBmV range downstream)
Here are my three options, as I see it, and I'd love feedback on which route I should take in order to get the modem and TV on the same line with best possible signal (not ideal, I understand, but probably realistic with the way the house is wired)
1- Leave it alone, those signals are fine (?)
2- Call Comcast and tell them the tech needs to re-wire the house for proper signal levels (should I have to pay for this or should it be on them?)
3- buy an inline bidirectional passive booster to put in the box where the outside signal connects to the house line. (There's a popular one on Amazon with 5 stars for $27)
Thanks again for any suggestions!
PS- Modem is a brand new Cisco DPC3008 DOCSIS 3.0. Router is a newly purchased Apple Airport Express (newest version)

[WiFi] The Secret of the Hidden SSID Revealed + Turn it Off Yourself
I had some time today to mess around with friend's Comcast gateway today and I think I've made a lot of progress!! This is for those who don't want to contact support to have their hidden SSID turned off after bridging or for those who use the gateway as their main network and want to remove the SSID.
I was looking at the page(using F12) and I saw a network in there labeled as a public Wi-Fi hotspot. It was listed as ".hide" and it came with the SSID of "XHS-(last 8 digits of CM mac)."
There was also a reference to something along the lines of a "home security ssid" being listed as SSID 3 or something like that. I can't remember exactly. Could it stand for Xfinity Home Security? Who knows! I heard a few other options for it too :). Even if it was for xfinity home security(as some people rumored it to be for a while), it seems like they ignored that path.
So, I decided to have a little fun with it. I typed in the SSID I saw hidden in the page(with a random password) and tada, the hidden SSID showed itself. I still didn't know the password which kept me a little curious still.
Then I thought, what if I just have some fun with the URL? I clicked on the wireless settings for the 2.4 GHz radio and was given the link http://10.0.0.1/wireless_network_configuration_edit.php?id=1 .
I saw the 5 GHz radio was id=2, so I plugged id=3 at the end. That's when I was given a "Public Wi-Fi Network Configuration (2.4 GHz)" page. There it provided me the option to enable or disable it. I tried finding "xfinitywifi" but it didn't work :(.
As a little extra thing, I also discovered there were a lot of MoCA settings hidden away. If you go into F12 and get rid of everything with "display:none" you are presented a much larger array of settings. I never checked to see if the settings stuck or not. Let me know if they do.
I wish I had more time with the gateway to see what else I could find.
Disable this before it's locked out from access :). Go go go!
Note: This was done with a dual band gateway. If someone has a single band, let me know how it goes with the URL changing.

I need modem/router information quickly (150+ mbps)
Okay so a tech will be here on the 6th to install my new "blast" internet (they are now upgrading 105 to 150 mbps)
I purchased the SB6183 modem online I have it here now, but I have couple questions I NEED answered before they arrive.
1) Is there anything particular I need to say to the tech to get them to enable all the channels? It's a 16x4 modem and I've read that people had issues getting the full benefits.
2) What router should I get? I want the lowest latency possible. Is there any sort of benchmark chart that shows the fastest, lowest latency router.
Please answer both questions if possible. I need to know before they arrive.

[Signals] Does this look normal, and should I call for a tech?
Hi,
I'm located in PA, about halfway between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, and I'm having a lot of connection issues as of the past month.
The issues I have are whenever higher-bandwidth applications are in use: gaming, HD YouTube, Twitch, Skype, etc. YouTube videos just stop and buffer till the page is reloaded, Skype calls just drop and if they don't.. the call quality is no higher than 2/5 bars, gaming I regularly experience packet loss of 25-50 and sometimes 60 percent. I have attached the status, log, and signal pages as webpages.
The reason that I posted the status page is because my modem says it's always offline, unless I reboot, where it goes back online for 5ish minutes before going back offline. So the modem is working, just says its offline.
As for the log, is it normal to have a T3 issue per minute?
Signal levels... I get lost with that, I understand it and what each means, but I get lost looking at the page.
I've been through the regular stuff, all coax ends are cut correctly, there are no splitters, done Comcast reboot, reboot from modem page, and power cycled, I have been given I-don't-know-how-many filters to put on the line before the modem, none making any difference. At this point, I want to leave Comcast so badly, but I'm stuck as they are the only thing in the area other than dial-up, which to be honest, is more reliable :'(

[Speed] 'Blast' 150 downgraded to 105 again?
I'm here in Sacramento, CA and a few months we had our blast speeds boosted to 150mbps (avg dl @ 180) and just recently we're only seeing ~105mbps as if it were back on 105 tier.

Comcast CSRs say the boot file is the correct one for the 150 yet it tests at ~100 (and only ~10/10 on IPv6!!!) modem numbers look good on both sides..
Is anyone else in the area noticing this reduction?
Or do we have provisioning issues..

[Speed] Comcast speeds
Hello DSL Reports
I am in some great need of help regarding my issues with Comcast and the speeds provided to me. I currently have a Blast plan 105 download / 20 upload. I had this connection for 2 years now. In January I decided to drop the comcast modem for my own modem. I bough a Motorola SB6183 modem. Since then till now my speeds were amazing always solid no issues no fluctuations etc. Numbers I was getting 125 mbps download and 24 upload ... constantly.
Since 2 weeks ago my upload speeds went the toilet. I cannot go above 8 mbps and usually they are in 4 to 5 range. I have been in contact with Comcast since last week. Last Tuesday night I had a chat with a tech at Philippines the guy knew what he was doing and he managed to fixed it. I was back to the normal speeds but 7 hours later the problem returned. Every single day I have been chatting and calling Comcast only to find that they always made me reset the modem reboot .. put the router directly to the pc and so on with no results what so ever. They decide to send a tech home which I did not wanted since I knew the problem was at their end since a guy in tech already fixed it and then the fix went away. Since I was getting desperate I kept calling and eventually ask them to send the tech. The Tech came yesterday to my house and checked the line.. Removed 2 splitters since I had 4. All looked green on this end and in the box he said. But while doing more speed test the problem continue with even lower speeds. He kept calling Comcast and they didnt knew what to do. He spent 5 hours at my house with no luck. So right now they are going to send another tech to my house tomorrow and we will take it from there but I have zero confidence on this step since I know at my end there is no issues.
I wanted to shared this story here maybe someone can shed some light on this chaotic issue I am having. The Internet line the last 2 weeks have been a disaster. Some times is fast sometimes slow.. it changes every minute... Dont know what to expect tomorrow so any input or help highly appreciated.
