Can the arris tm722g emta ip address be changed? Right now it is 192.168.100.1. I have a Arris sb6183 that I use for the modem which has the 192.168.100.1. I do not have the tm722g connected to the internet because of that.

[WiFi] Help me understand...
I have two questions, but guess the other should go to the Comcast HSI section.
We had a power outage the other day/night that lasted over 5 hours.
During this time I was running out of things to do (in the dark) so I fired up the laptop and was getting ready to tether through my phone to surf awhile but noticed 2 xfinity wifi signals were still present even though power was out for a very large area. The one signal had to of been my neighbor across the street since I am used to seeing his signal almost full strength.
So I jumped on and did my regular check on DSLR and a few other places.
Started to wonder if these xfinity modems have battery packs in them or if my neighbor had his generator on.
Mentioned this to my neighbor the next day only to find out he was already in bed and he didn't fire up his generator.
So my question is, do the xfinity modems (his is one which also has VOIP/Phone) have battery back up in them, and how long do they roughly last in an outage. I was on his internet for just about 3 hours and it was still going strong. Signal didn't get any weaker during that time frame. I was impressed.

[Speed] Speed upgrade/new modem (6141)...& same speeds
I always feel so goddamned frustrated every time I get involved with Comcast. It's the same old story:
They email me that speeds have been upgraded in my part of Maryland and suggest I upgrade my modem. I hesitate but then fall into the trap and get a new SB 6141 to replace 6121. And voila, speeds are no different than before. I know this is a story that has been repeated often but I do not know where to begin (or even if I should).
I have a Mac desktop and laptop and Apple router (Airport Extreme...about 3 years old. The speeds on the laptop, which is about 20 feet from the router are about 60/12 and the speeds on the desktop, which is on the floor directly above the router are about 50 (or less)/12. All this is functional but because I know it is supposed to be faster I'm at a loss for where to begin.
When I set-up the new modem and connected directly to it with the laptop the speed rating was about 150 down!, but it is impractical for me to be wired directly to the modem. Can wireless degrade the speeds from 150 to 50?
Any words of wisdom are appreciated. Thanks.

It seems the wifi part of the xfinity router is failing. I can't get over 60mbps on my 100mbps connection. I have rebooted all devices including router, make new connections. No improvement. Even if any device is next to the router.

Always heard that comcast rigs it so short speed test look great but after a few mins your connection drops to fool the test. Just curious if their are any knowns peed tests that last longer to test the true speed of my connection.

[Plan] Apparently I was hallucinating
I will be moving to a new place this weekend, outside the coverage of my current ISP, so a few days ago I went online and ordered service through xfinity.com. I felt really lucky to find a $39.99/month package consisting of Internet (25Mbps), TV (140+ channels), and Voice. I went through the entire process of choosing if I wanted HBO or some other HBO-related freebie, electing whether to rent or use my modem, verifying if my modem supported eMTA, whether I wanted a self-installation kit, etc. all the way up to the end where it said my order was placed successfully and that I would be receiving an email to confirm. I even chatted with an online customer rep afterwards when I didn't receive the email immediately, who told me it could take a couple of days.
Fast forward to today when I received an email with a link to create my Comcast ID. Upon creating the ID, I went to the billing section and saw that besides the internet speed, nothing tied to what I had ordered. Instead of 140+ channels, it showed 10+ channels, Voice was nowhere to be found, the base price was $49.99 and there were installation and setup fees that, along with taxes, brought it up to $70.
I immediately went online and asked a customer rep what had happened and he told me that a $39.99 package for everything I mentioned above did not exist, but they had it for $89.99, did I want to upgrade? I tried to convince him that yes, that's what I ordered, but he just kept saying he didn't see anything on his end. When I finally got fed up with the whole thing and told him to just cancel my order, he said he would connect me to a superior of his. I again, explained the situation and again, got the same response of that package not existing.
In the end, because Comcast is the only ISP offering speeds over 6Mbps in my area, I ended up settling for 25Mbps of internet and limited basic cable for $39.99 but this whole experience has left me completely appalled at the bait-and-switch tactic. Had I known the simple process of placing something in a cart and ordering it would be challenged, I would have taken screenshots and video of the entire process, as it seems that is the only way I can prove what happened, since the offer has mysteriously disappeared from their website.
Honestly, when I first found out that I would have to use Comcast after I moved, I was ready to give them the benefit of the doubt. I heard a lot of bad things about their customer service but was willing to concede that most people who leave reviews are only motivated to do so based on a negative experience, which results in a skewed view. However, the fact I've had to spend 2 hours "resolving" a billing issue before I've even activated my service leads me to believe these reviews are entirely deserved, and I will most certainly be adding my own.
*whew* Sorry for that. Just needed to vent.

[WiFi] HOA changing to AT&T from Comcast
My HOA changing The TV supplier contract to AT&T from Comcast. This is in South Florida.
Based on two considerations I would probably want to keep Comcast for the Internet. At the moment I use cells for the phone.
1-The relative speeds of the Internet.Comcast is faster by far and the cost appears in the same ballpark for the faster comcast speeds. In fact AT&T top speed in the advertising brochure they sent around is only 24 Mbps for $54.00 to 3 Mbps for $31.00.
2- Comcast does not require a yearly contract as AT&T does. As I am a snow avoider (snow bird) I have in the past just stopped comcast and in one case even started it for a quick 2 week summer trip to the place. No problem as I use my own modem and router.
My questions are
1- Has anyone else gone thru this and how was your experience.
2-How much does comcast charge extra for Internet alone.
3- Does the new provider (in my case AT&T) use the same wiring and therefor screw it all up.
4- What do I need to do to see that it all works as planned.

[Connectivity] IPv6 download speed slow compared to IPv4
Here is a link of a recent speed test http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/1054059544.png. IPv6 speeds will run any where from 25 meg up to 60, but never higher. IPv4 has no problems. I have no other connection issues and was wondering if my modem needs a different config file for IPv6 to work as IPv4. You can contact me here or at erakster@comcast.net. Comcast Internet + direct tv
I was hoping a tech wouldn't have to come out if I purchased blast Internet and used my personal modem but I'm now realizing I have direct tv coming from the coax outlet in room where want modem. I only have one coax outlet in here how am I going to get Internet if direct TV signal is coming from it

[Speed] Very slow upload but perfectly normal download speeds
Hi I've been getting sub 1 mbps upload speeds for the past 17 hours but perfectly normal ~90 mbps download speeds. I've attached a picture of my modem signals. I tried contacting Comcast but they had no idea what was wrong. My modem is a Motorola SB6141, and my router's a Netgear WNDR4300. Would appreciate any suggestions thanks!

[Plan] Comcast Services: HSI vs Blast! ... and what we were charged for
My parents are a bit elderly but they pay their bills. I noticed recently after my mom complained about the cost of the Comcast Services per month (nothing unusual everyone does).... She said that "they are turning our internet speed down to the 50-75mbps plan."
I got to thinking... umm I believe we have always had that anyway, because our modem which is an older Arris is a Docsis 2.0 and tops out on speedtests around 35-50mbps anyway.
In June we received an email from Xfinity, asking if we'd like to Upgrade to Blast! for free, they'd send us a NEW Docsis 3.0 modem. We accepted. On 7/16/2015 we received it, hooked it up, activated it.. and yes our average speeds off our speed-test site went from 35-40mbps to about 120mbps. Pretty awesome, however it only lasted 2 weeks. They shut our services off because we did not pay our bill on time. We called up and paid that same morning, they turned everything back on (TV, phone, Internet)... everything popped on within 5 minutes... besides the Internet.
I spent all day with their tech support trying to get the NEW Cisco Modem back online, it would not stay connected for more than 5 minutes at a time without resetting itself, they (support) blamed the modem, LUCKILY I had our old Arris modem in the box as I did not send it back yet, we hooked it back up and everything was back to normal.
I checked our Comcast Billing Statements back to last year, they charged us for Comcast's High Speed Internet "service" all of last year, the last month being billed for it was October (shown on the November Statement).
The December statement that explains your previous month's bill, November, was when they started charging us for Blast! Internet Service... my understanding of the difference in plans is Blast! is their 150mbps download plan, and HSI is their "average" 50mbps download plan... I am not sure the pricing difference as it is conveniently "bundled" into one of their many little "Xfinity Services Packages".
So we basically got 2 weeks of Blast! service. We've been charged for Blast! since November 2014 up until this month (Sept 15). We did not even get notified that we got changed to Blast! until about June, via an email to our 3 email accounts. It asked us if we wanted a New Modem for "Free", we said yes. We got in July 16th, hooked it up... and disconnected it July 29th (more like they disconnected it).
So all these months they charged us for Blast! instead of "regular" HSI-High Speed Internet, I am not sure of the difference in the plan because by just looking at their statements they hide the prices really good. You can tell that the Modem Rental is $8.00 a month, that the Landline Telephone is $10.00 a month, but the Xfinity Bundle Services Package sometimes says:
Sept 2015: "HD Premier XF Bundle $214.99" and lists the channels you get, Starz, HBO, then throws in Blast! Internet, Xfinity Unlimited Voice"
Oct 2014: "HD Premier XF $159.99" same deal, lists channels Stars, HBO, High Speed Internet, Digital Voice Unlimited."
I'll provide a better breakdown below... whenever Comcast is questioned about these packages, or services, they will say you received a "promotion from x to y..." and you can see sometimes on the bills... unfortunately there is a different promotion every month or so... sigh.
It looks like the difference of about $55'sh per month based on the Blast! vs HSI, because you'll see below the services, channels, etc.. are all basically the same. I know what channels we've had for the past 20 years here, the same ones....
Anyway maybe this helps below... but sorry for the long post, but does anyone know the exact prices of the Blast! vs HSI, the packages, we want the cheapest from Comcast... because they've been charging us $204.00USD one month, then $214.00 the next, and one time $244.00 for a month and said our "promotion ended"... We've thought about Verizon, but it's basically C vs V in this area, just the 2 providers for TV/Internet... same services, and very similar prices...
