I've seen this issue happen on a few different websites, and I chalked it up to an anomaly, but it happened again this morning to a site that I know it has happened to before. I got an email from Starbucks asking me to take a little survey about a recent visit to my local store. It is a legitimate Starbucks email, not spam or phishing. I try to go to the site using Comcast and the link will never resolve. I try using different browsers, even a different computer, but it won't resolve. I then use my phone but it still won't resolve until I realize my phone is connected to wifi. I drop the wifi connection so that it uses my T-Mobile LTE data, and then the link resolves immediately and I can take the Starbucks survey. This same scenario has happened previously with Starbucks links as well as a few other links. Sites just won't resolve on Comcast but will on T-Mobile.

[Install] Potentially moving to Comcast HSI area...availability?
Hey all,
I'm relocating to the Johnson City, TN area and will be most likely in a Comcast area. There is a very small chance it could be charter but most of the area is Comcast.
I currently have Business 60/4 with Charter. I will be wanting business internet from Comcast. My last home purchase turned out to be a huge fiasco with getting HSI - short story is I was told it was available (from Charter) but then it turned out it wasn't once I moved in.
Since Comcast's reputation is generally even worse than Charter's - is there anything I can do to ensure that where I move will have Comcast HSI available? I will be buying another home and this is my #1 priority - but since I checked the last time and was let down, is there any better way to protect myself and ensure it will be available? Is there an easy way to find out of the city has an agreement with Comcast as far as build out requirements go? Anywhere I go would be inside the city limits.
I assume there is a possibility of putting something in a real estate contract when purchasing but that sounds a bit ridiculous...especially since you won't know until you move in/have possession if it is available
Local DSL is not going to be an option as the speeds are pretty horrible in comparison. Some of the homes I have been looking at only show 3 meg available through Centrylink :(
Thanks!

[Speed] Comcast speed upgrade in San Jose?
With the recent announcement of new tier upgrades happening this month and moving forward I was wondering if anyone has any information for the San Jose Area? I have the 50mbps + blast so I'm getting roughly 130mbps on SB6141, would like to get 150mbps or 250mbps extreme

[Speed] Remember when?
Since there's another round of speed upgrades/upgrades in general coming down the pipe, do ya'll remember what your speed was when ya'll first got cable and how excited you were to leave dial up behind? When was that?
Mine was January 31, 2004 after 6 years on dial up. And I remember it vividly. About 2 weeks ago, the installer told me the upgrade to 3/384 happened. Things just popped up so much faster and I saw things dial up prevented for me for a year, load in seconds. It breathed new life into my 4 year old rig like it was new again.

[Speed] slow, laggy connection, T3 time outs
A few months back I have had similar issues on and off for several months, then out of nowhere the issues seemed to correct itself. I thought finally Comcast fixed whatever what was wrong and all was well and didn't think anything about it. Today it seems to be back again.
I ran several speed tests and my download seemed in spec for blast 50 (55-60mbps) My upload however was only 150-300 kbps. I ran the dslreports speed test and got a rating of F for bufferbloat?
I attached my modem signal and log screen shots.
Modem: SB6121
Router: WDNR4500
Switch: D-Link DGS-1024D
Is this likely a Comcast issue? Or could it be possibly something on my end?

[Equip] Yes or no: Can I put a *retail* Arris TG862 in bridge mode myself?
I'm upgrading to a Comcast Triple Play (from Double Play), but also want to own my own equipment. Unfortunately, with voice service, the choices are limited, and as such, I figured I'd just pick up a TG862 (the same gateway device Comcast rents) for maximum compatibility. I'm not interested in the 822 or 722, for reasons well discussed previously on BBR.
However: I need the TG862 to act as a bridge only. I have my own routers, thank you, and don't want to be double-NAT'ed or to serve the XfinityWifi service for any reason at any point. I know at least in the past, the rental TG862 required a call to comcast and some rigamarole to get bridged, and you couldn't turn off the wifi portion. If I buy one of the Xfinity-branded ones at Best Buy or wherever, can I control these elements myself?
I had a tech on-site today who was an absolute champ, calling his home base and arguing with them about whether what I wanted could be accomplished with a rental unit, and couldn't get a straight answer. We agreed to just leave my setup as-is (Double Play with a rock-solid Ubee rental modem) for now while I researched my options, and set up a new tech visit for a week from now.
So, hive mind? What are my options? CAN I own a telephony-capable modem that is Comcast-approved without having it act as a router or wifi access point?
Thanks!

[Connectivity] Modem dropping connection
Hello,
I have comcast blast internet with digital TV+HBO. I've been having issues with the modem dropping internet connection for many months. I've changed 3 modems so far and 3 or 4 routers. My current setup is an SB6121 docsis 3 modem (to take advantage of 50Mbps speed) and Netgear R7000 router. When successfully connected, I get stated speeds but the modem has issues with keeping the connection. It drops out several times during the day. I have attached my modem signal levels. I'm not an expert but my upstream power level is 57 dBmV which is high from reading other posts on here. I have had a comcast technician come out and had the modem drop the connection while he was here. He replaced some splitters and the connection was fine for a while. But it's been acting up again for the last few months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in diagnosing the issue.
Thank you.

[Speed] Upgraded from Performance to Blast. Abysmal Upload Speeds
Just yesterday I upgraded from Performance to Blast internet. Since upgrading, my download speeds have noticeably increased as expected. For whatever reason though my upload speed has tanked. It has been over 24 hours since the upgrade from Performance to Blast was done remotely. I did make sure to power cycle my modem and router. I also tested by plugging my PC directly into my modem bypassing my router altogether but I am still receiving extremely slow upload speeds.
The speed sites I typically use for testing include:
http://www.speedtest.net (I typically use the app for this on my iPhone 6 Plus)
http://www.testmy.net
http://speedof.me
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
http://speedtest.comcast.net
Previously on Performance, I was receiving 30 Mbps download and approximately 6 Mbps upload while testing on my iPhone 6 Plus using the SpeedTest.net app. I would also see these speeds on other devices as well.
Since upgrading though, I am receiving download speeds of approximately 105 Mbps. My upload speed now is around 1 Mbps or even a little less. However, last night after midnight, I ran a speed test and did receive upload speeds of nearly 12 Mbps as I would expect on Blast. However right now as I write this, my upload speeds are still terrible. I know some may blame the time of the day when I tested as being a factor, but back when I was on the Performance plan, my speeds would pretty much always be a consistent 30 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up regardless of the time of day.
I did not change any of my equipment or hardware since the upgrade. I am using a Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 SB6120 modem and a ASUS RT-N66U (running Asuswrt-Merlin firmware) wireless router.
I do not see anything abnormal in the modem or routers logs.
I'm guessing this is an issue on Comcast's end, but just thought I'd post here to see if anyone has any other suggestions or tips.
Thank you.

[Equip] New Surfboard Working...but not?
Not sure what is going on with the new Surfboard SB6141 purchased from Amazon (and delivered within an hour at $10 cheaper than Best Buy--amazing).
After installing the device physically, I called tech support and gave them the Mac Address the serial number, etc. etc. Funny thing is that she asked me to disconnect it for 30 seconds and reconnect. About 40 seconds later, she asked if I had plugged it in and I scrambled to get it plugged in while saying "yeah, it's plugged in" She said, "oh great, I can see it now" then I plugged it in. LOL
Still, the status screens on the modem appear whacked. We are getting normal speeds of 86-87, and uploads of 15-17...but the ping is outrageous. Normally we get a ping of around 6-8ms now, it's roughly 28 or higher.
So things download great, but resolving DNS often results in a timeout. This is true whether connected directly to the modem or through a router. I have enclosed screenshots of the modem status pages. Anybody know what's up?
I also noticed some crazy stuff with my TCPIP stack. I have a WIFI connection that shows up like normal (left). But notice on the right, my Ethernet connection shows my gateway and dhcp server on different subnets? It appears to work, but is that normal? Could that be part of why initial connections are taking forever?
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any information.

[Equip] So much for the Netgear CM500...
Just tried to install the Netgear CM500 modem and it did not work. Walled garden hung, so I called and got a pretty good rep on the phone and stayed with me for an hour or more. He got it all provision and set up but all web pages were slow to load. The Comcast speed test went to 91% and then the speed started dropping and it never finished. Tried new LAN cable and hooked in an older XP machine and the same thing occurred after many resets. Pulled it out and hooked up the old Zoom 5341J and I was back in action. This CM500 goes back to Amazon. Fail in my book.

[Install] 6000' Plant Extension
Yes, I know, a long ways and $$$. I'm working with a couple great local CC guys who are really working hard to get this done for me - they're really going above and beyond. Hoping it works out, but I'm understanding if we can't make it work.
The original quote was for about 3500' of underground fiber, a new node, and then about 2500' of aerial copper. $$$
The construction manager and a business class salesman (the two guys referenced above) met me at my place this past Friday afternoon and the construction guy was talking about doing it all copper. He said they've really been on him about installing new amps (he said some of the old Adelphia-built areas are 19 deep in my county), but may be able to get the engineers to sign off on it, which would bring the cost down significantly.
My question is this and probably more for the techs that hang out here...how many amps/LEs do your local systems allow for? The construction guy said they can go about 2100' between amps using 875. That would put me at 3ish amps if they use 875 the whole way. He sounded like it was a 50/50 proposition of it getting through engineering. The 6000' is straight from a node. No existing LEs in the path. I'm not a HFC expert, so I'm oversimplifying things. Sorry in advance.
I live in a rural area. The node I'd be hanging off of currently serves about 10 homes (smallest node in the county). If they install a new node for me, there'd be 6 (potential) homes on the new one.
Just curious to how CC operates in other areas.
Thanks.

[Speed] Distance of test server affects speed test results
Split from this stickied topic ---> http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30084904-Sonora-CA
said by uid://1591941 :State: California
City: Sonora
Tier: Blast!
Modem: SB6183 (8 downstream channel system currently)
Device used for this particular test: Laptop running Fedora 22 x64 over Wireless N
Results: formerly 105/10 (125/12 padded) now 150/10 (170-185 / 12 padded -- it appears my particular system is still stabilizing its speeds or needs to activate an additional 8 downstream channels)
Results might also be higher on wireless AC...
Slower IPv6 results due to IPv6 inconsistencies with SB6183 modem.
http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/917444084.png
Not really your IPV6 test server is 30 ms farther away (more router hops as the actual distance is only about 5.4usec per mile of delay, that is why the speed drops off due to latency and more routers to traverse.

[Equip] Comcast says Arris TM822G won't work with voice service
This came up in another discussion but some there thought it was worthy of it own topic.
A Comcast employee has posted this in Comcast's own forums: http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Voice-Service-and-Equipment/TM822G-is-not-an-approved-retail-device-for-phone/td-p/2528169
"Hi all,
It has come to my attention that some customers are having issues with TM822G for voice service. The TM822G is not an approved retail device for voice service and as a result will lose phone provisioning as well as dial tone. There are only two approved retail devices for phone service, these are the TM722G and TG862G. If you have purchase a device outside of these two, it could work for some time, but eventually the issues will begin with the phone service. I apologize for the inconvenience regarding this.
This might change in the future, to look at an updated list of retail devices for phone service go to http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ click on the retail check mark and look for the Telephony devices."

[Equip] ZYXEL BRG35503 modem no longer supported?? Help?
I have two ZYXEL BRG35503 Docsis 3 modems, one at home, one at our church, purchased from newegg last year, and working fine until this morning.
Our Comcast Internet is down both places, fine for our neighbors though. The status light is blinking. Tech support cannot reach the modem. I cannot believe it is a coincidence that my two locations with previously working Zyxel modems are all of a sudden not working.
Any ideas? Who to talk to? How to get a hold of someone higher in comcast tech support to actually look at this issue? I am borrowing internet from my kind neighbor right now but this needs to be resolved. Help?
