[Tier] Is this the correct boot file for Extreme 105 tier

$

Recently my cable modem rebooted and when it came back up the log was showing a Software Init using the following bootfile d11_m_sb6141_widebandshowcaseblast_c01.cm . Ever since this time my speed has dropped from around 112 Mbps down to around 92-94 Mbps. The upload speeds have remained the same. Does anyone know if this is the correct bootfile for the Extreme 105 tier? And if it is not, how do I get it corrected? I have attached screenshots of my Modem's signal page, firmware information, and an xfinity speedtest.

[Connectivity] Xfinity Home (Security System)

Hello All, This is a question for you Comcast customers that are also subscribing to Xfinity Home. Is it possible to run Xfinity Home from your own personal router. With all the crap that Comcast is pulling with this xfinity wifi business, I want to minimize their intrusion in my house as much as I can. When I ordered the service, I made sure to ask this question plenty of times and get assurances that this was doable. My wife was home when the installation happened and did not want to deal with the installers being at the house for too long. SO she just let them do whatever. Needless to say, I was rolling over at work and losing my mind. Anyway, what's done is done. Hopefully I can run this from my own router. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Since most of the west coast lost internet a couple days ago, am getting some strange things with my connection. Before when I clicked on a link, it was right there. Not so since that outage. I changed DNS servers and that doesn't help. I always get to where I want to go, but hesitation where there was none before. Here is my modem logs. Is it anything to be worried about or just go with the flow.

[Speed] Share a cable coax line with two cable boxes?

Is there a significant difference in these two options: 1. We install a splitter in my building and a Tenant gets his own cable internet box. 2. Tenant has his own address, and gets his own cable pulled into the building from the street. If this tenant start using the internet heavily, will it affect my internet speed much more if option 1? (I had heard once that whole neighborhoods share the bandwidth for cable internet, so I wasn't sure if one option was much better than the other. Also not sure if two 100/20 Mbps cable boxes can co-exist on the same cable run from the street.)

[Install] Comcast Plant Extension

OK...So after 15 years of trying to get cable, I finally have what I think is a reasonable plant extension cost. They started out 5 years ago wanting $65,000 to run cable to my house. Fast forward to Feb 2015 and the price has dropped to $17,000 of which I'm responsible for $8000. I email corporate and the call. We argue and the send someone out from construction(they've already done site surveys). Total cost now is $3,350 for a 1200' extension. How does this sound?

I got an Un-solicited call from a comcast sales guy.... Somehow he determined that our house was for sale... I wanted to pitch a move to my new location. Gave him Zipcode, though I knew it wouldn't help... Comcast doesn't support that area... Halfway up the side of a mountain in NC. In fact, the cable company that does support that area is a "Mom & Pop" company... I've been watching them for years, and they just upgraded their hardware. Internet speeds went from 2.5Mb down to 60Mb down (what I presently get with my Triple Play). We were there in May... Introduced ourselves to the cable company. and suggested that instead of them trying to connect from their pole to our house hundreds of feet up the mountain slope to our pad.... That they instead connect to our garage behind the house, and connect to "our" tie trunks (Quad Shielded RG-6) in the garage that connects to our distribution rack in the house via a 3" buried plastic pipe....... I even offered to run an RG11 in that pipe between the house and garage.. They were skeptical... but came out to do a 'site survey' at our property... and commented that they've: "Never seen a better installation", and would be Happy to use my interconnects.... "No Need for RG11". I asked them about my Roku-3.. "No Problem!" Installation is July 17.... -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle

[Connectivity] Modem dropping connection

Hello, I have comcast blast internet with digital TV+HBO. I've been having issues with the modem dropping internet connection for many months. I've changed 3 modems so far and 3 or 4 routers. My current setup is an SB6121 docsis 3 modem (to take advantage of 50Mbps speed) and Netgear R7000 router. When successfully connected, I get stated speeds but the modem has issues with keeping the connection. It drops out several times during the day. I have attached my modem signal levels. I'm not an expert but my upstream power level is 57 dBmV which is high from reading other posts on here. I have had a comcast technician come out and had the modem drop the connection while he was here. He replaced some splitters and the connection was fine for a while. But it's been acting up again for the last few months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in diagnosing the issue. Thank you.

[Signals] Downstream power level and snr too low?

Over the past week or so, my downstream signals went from totally within spec with a 37 db snr and power lever close to zero to lower than -10 at times and the snr as low as 31 db. My modem is a Motorola SB6121 and I am using no splits to the wall. There haven't been any major changes to the cabling in the house. The main line feeds into a 4 way splitter that runs cable to the modem and two x1 boxes. The signal levels on the x1 DOCSIS page are about the same. The Downstream SNR has dipped as low as 31. [Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Deployments

Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger. FYI, my latest bill had this on the last page: quote:IMPORTANT INFO: Effective 3/31/2015, our Internet Plus package will no longer be available for new subscriptions. If you subscribe to Internet Plus prior to this date, you will continue to receive this package until you make a change to your account or you receive further notice. Effective 4/1/2015, our new Internet Plus 25 package will be available. It is $67.95/mo, plus applicable fees and taxes. When I login to comcast.com, it says that Internet Plus is 50 Mbps for $69.95/mo.

[Speed] When do the new California speed increases take effect?

$

In Comcast's recent press release about the upcoming 2Gbps rollout, they mentioned: The company also will increase its Performance tier from 50 Mbps to 75 Mbps and its Blast tier from 105 Mbps to 150 Mbps, both at no additional cost to customers. These changes will go into effect starting in May and continue throughout the year. The way they phrased this ("starting in May and continue throughout the year") seems intentionally confusing and kind of implies that some areas won't see these speed upgrades until the very end of the year. Does anyone have any indication of specifically when we can expect to see these upgrades? I imagine I'll need to reboot my modem once it's rolled out, but "reboot your modem sometime between May and December" is a bit vague :)

[Speed] Beta of tool to diagnose speed issues - feedback requested

$

FYI - We're working on a new tool to try and take some guesswork out of connection troubleshooting. We're launching a beta today - and we really want your feedback because we know there are bugs to squash! ;-) Any time someone comes in here with speed issues, the first steps are always to check your signals. And so we are attempting to automate that process, so you don't have to check your local modem page and interpret RF levels on your own. We also check if your device is end-of-life, and whether your speed tests are in line with the speed for which you are paying. We then try to guide you to an avenue that will solve your issue with minimal effort. The beta test tool is called Speed Experience (https://speedexperience.comcast.net/). You sign in with your Xfinity account; so you don't need to be home to use this tool. If you are having issues and would like to give it a try, please do. There is a form at the bottom where you can send us feedback about the tool. This is a beta, so there will be bugs! If you get a message that we couldn't detect your device or your signals, please take a moment to use the feedback form at the bottom and let us know. We are working on adding some more features to it, including WiFi signal issues and automatic submission of your problems to a team that can resolve them (so you don't even need to call or chat). In the backlog, I have: 1 – If the RF levels are out-of-spec, automatically create a ticket rather than driving the customer to chat/call. 2 – If the customer has a wireless gateway, show wireless network attributes (SSID name, channel, etc.) and make WiFi-improvement suggestions. 3 – The results page should provide a permalink, so the customer can share the results. Thanks for the help testing this tool! -- JL Comcast Engineering https://twitter.com/jlivingood

[IPv6] SB6183 IPv6 problems

I had a perfectly running IPv6 config on my Zoom 5341J, routed through my Linux server, which looks like this: p3p1 (WAN) is accepting RAs and has a link-local IPv6 address only. bond0 (LAN) is allowing forwarding and is assigned a static IP from the /64 PD obtained on p3p1. DNSmasq is serving DHCPv6 and SLAAC, doing RAs on bond0. With the Zoom, the local Linux server, Windows machines, and mobile devices all passed http://test-ipv6.com perfectly, and quickly. With the only change being the SB6183, here is what I see: -Windows machines work fine and pass the test quickly every time. -The local Linux server and mobile devices sometimes pass and mostly fail, with no consistency. Furthermore, the tests are very slow to run, even if it does pass. When it fails, the errors are all over the place (no IPv6 address, large packet (PDMTU) failure, browser blocking test URLs, no direct IPv6 access, etc.) - I've seen combinations of them all! Anything IPv6 related done directly on the server works, but is very slow or stalls entirely (example - wget on http://download.thinkbroadband.com/1GB.zip, which is IPv6). DNS lookups via Comcast's IPv6 DNS are instant. Almost seems like an MTU issue somewhere along the line that Windows isn't having a problem with, which may also explain these in dmesg (lots of them): [22257.883035] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023049849:1023051199 (repaired) [22259.075034] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023049849:1023051199 (repaired) [22275.339033] Peer 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:ffff:0c2f:ae63:49925/80 unexpectedly shrunk window 1023238849:1023240199 (repaired) I've tried just about everything I can think of and it's leading me to some problem with the 6183 - I've even completely disabled the firewall and all associated rules on the Linux server, and direct access from the server still fails testing. Any thoughts on this?

I've been meaning to do it since the recent speed increase and yesterday finally got around to downgrading my service from Blast to Performance. I managed to do it via chat, which was really nice not having to deal with Comcast over the phone. First I got a rep that didn't know what I was talking about and tried selling me some package promo, but quickly transferred me to sales. After being transferred I was surprised that I didn't have to fight with anyone over the service change. The rep understood what I wanted and took maybe ten minutes to get it done. Less then two minutes after closing the chat my modem rebooted and I'm back to 50. Now we just have to see if they get the billing right.

[CustSvc] Comcast, the new AOL

Some backstory, TLDR at end.... Mid march, service is hooked up at a friends. Two weeks later they notice the contract for the $20 less price. They call in, have that removed and are advised the bill will go up $20ish a month. No problem so far. 2 weeks ago, account holder moves (authorized person on the account not moving yet), leaving internet and cable on. Called today since authorized person is moving in with me. Here it goes downhill.... Had to ask to cancel 4 times. FOUR. Rep doesn't want to remove contract, says no record of that call. Three times asking for a supervisor. On that third time, rep mutters "oh god" under their breath but loud enough for the customer to hear. He brings a sup on that says (no kidding here) "id like to offer you the best deal to keep your services". So this brings it to 5 times asking to cancel. About 30 minutes of back and forth, me, the customer being constantly interrupted and talked over. Supervisor wanted the exact date of call in about the contract. Same as the rep. Worked in call centers, every time an account pops on the screen, systems will mark it as accessed. So much for comcast wanting to fix the customer service breakdowns. TLDR comcast doesnt cancel like AOL doesnt and got in trouble for. Ignorant to customer requests, and no listening skills.
