Apologize if this is the wrong sub-forum. I do have Comcast though.
So my Comcast service enters my apartment (coaxial cables) through my ceiling in a small closet. From there, I have a splitter that seperates the signal to my TV box in the living room and modem in my bedroom via two coaxial cables.
Years ago, the cables were routed crudely underneath my carpet. After some service issues in 2008, I cut them and ran new cables from the splitter. The cables now rest on top of my carpet. I try to avoid the area where the cables lay when I vacuum but yesterday I unplugged everything so I could vacuum the area completely.
First I unplugged the power to my modem, then TV box. After waiting a little while, I unthreaded both coaxial cables from the splitter. I vacuumed everything, called it a night and went to work in the morning.
Today, I came home from work and rethreaded my cables back into the splitter. I waited a couple hours and plugged the power back into my modem. Now it is failng to initialize. Motorola SB6141. Power light stays lit. Downstream light blinks blue. The last light stays lit amber. All other light are off. Been like that for hours now.
Thinking it was my internet, I tried plugging the power into my TV box. Waited a while and came back. All the channels say unavailable. There's a message about waiting one moment and a code sb00500. After a couple hours, no change.
So it seems like I did something very, very bad to my service. Which doesn't make sense considering I've performed this "cleaning procedure" in the past, without a single problem.
Currently, Comcast's phone tech support is experiencing a complete outage. Go figure right? So I am unable to get through to support. I was told by a sales rep supervisor it will be down for hours with no ETA on fix. So I'm left diagnosing the problem myself, for now.
My neighbors, who have Comcast, are getting service. So it is not an outage. I've tried replacing the splitter and coaxial cables. It's not the modem because I'm also not getting TV service. So what could possibly be the problem here? I would greatly appreciate if someone knowledgable could lend some insight. Thanks.
