[Plan] Extreme Pro Internet 400 Mbs - Side Discussion

Mod Note: This is for discussion about the rollout of this tier. Reports of actual receipt of the tier belongs here> https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31481336-Speed-Report-Extreme-Pro-Internet-400-Mbps-Here ~sortofageek I am trying to order the Extreme Pro (400 Mbs) pack as I have the old Extreme 150 and the Pro is cheaper than I am currently paying. You can not order on the web site but have to call. Finally get through to a human only to be told they don't do a 400Mbs internet for residential. The best they have is the Blast! 200. I politely explain they go up to 2Gbs for home internet if you are willing to pay for it. Anyone else ran into this issue, Or have an idea how to get around the human factor?

I've seen these were EOL a while back, but should still work unless they just stopped allowing this device to get internet from them. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and do I potentially need to go modem shopping? Internet is apparently fine on Comcasts end; However my modem is not connecting to Comcast despite resetting the device many times and redoing the connections. Thank you!

I just tried to log in to my account on the website and could not get in, tried multiple times and still nothing, got 'password not recognized', and when I tried to reset the password, got "We could not find this username'. Huh?? Called in to see if I was the only one, and I honestly had the rep stumped, then he was going to transfer me to the security dept because I know the bill is current because I was watching tv and still had internet... He goes to transfer me and then all of a sudden he says hold on there is one of the managers yelling something and comes back and says its all on their end and should be resolved by 4:00 pm eastern.

Where is a good place to buy a few cable attenuators? I would like to keep some on hand so I can keep the downstream level on my modem in range.

[Speed] Extreme PRO 400 and Gigabit Available in CT?

Hello All, I recently received a letter in the mail from XFINITY/Comcast that seems specifically targeted to BLAST! customers in my area (Wolcott, CT). It says 3 simple ways to get more from your internet on the front page. It also lists a 1877 number and the address of my local Comcast retail store. Open it up and the first page thanks me for being an Xfinity internet customer. The second page gives me pricing to upgrade to a new internet tier: for 7 dollars more than Blast! I can get 400 Mbps or for 12 dollars more I can get 1GB (I'm assuming a typo that they meant 1Gb or 1Gbps not one gigabyte). I went to the website and saw neither of these two options, just the package I have with the information on upgrading to the 2 Gb Gigabit Pro package if I wanted to go faster. I called the 1877 number on the front and I told the rep what I had gotten in the mail, and that I was interested but I coudlnt find it on the website. She then said she also could not find them as options and put me on hold and asked her supervisor. She came back and said it must have been an error in the marketing department and that it was not yet in my area but it was coming soon. Needless to say I was a little disappointed.

[CDV] Voice with no voice?

$

Hey all; Current situation is that we have the Comcast rental modem/gateway/voice piece. I'm looking at buying our own instead of renting. Despite the fact that we don't use a home phone for calls, the price was actually a few dollars cheaper than ditching the service. Since I'm interested in minimizing the break-even time, I'm seriously considering the Netgear CM500. Since we don't use the home phone for calls, we like to keep our home number as a "catch" for general things (like our kids school notifications) and voicemail. Our friends and family know to reach us on our cell. So, CM500 and just let any voice calls drop to voicemail (which is essentially what we're doing now, our home phone doesn't even ring.) We get voicemail to text in our email and can manage it online, so there's really no need to even recognize an incoming call. Will this work or will Comcast find some excuse to give us a hard time about it?

[Connectivity] Yet another SBG6580 "Access Denied" issue

Hello, I just became a Comcast internet customer, but have no success of being connected. I have my own modem (Surfboard SBG6580) but the connection status at the admin page says "Access Denied." The persistent issue still happening. The firmware version is SBG6580-3.1.0.0-GA-07-180-NOSH. Apparently, one of the oldest. I also read in the forum that this problem was solved with the recent firmware but I cannot update the firmware myself. Apparently this is a known issue as I searched online (this forum particularly) and people suggested PMing Netcool as the problem cannot be solved by the customer. Probably the best idea, but the DSLReports does not allow PM within 8 hours after new account creation ;( Also I do not think posting my MAC address on the public form is a good idea. (Well, never mind. The MAC address is REMOVED . I will remove it later.) I know this is Sunday and employees have to have a rest, but is there any faster way to solve this problem before I can wait 8 hours? (Hopefully the NetDog's automated tool may pick up my post and solve it for me...) Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

[WiFi] Xfinity Hotspot locations?

I've not much experience with the Xfinity Hotspots(the public ones). I have the Xfinity Hotspot App on my Tablet and Smart phone. I can see Hotspot locations all over and even have connected a few times. However I do not see any in my neighborhood nor in the apartment complex next to me. Does Xfinity ever put their Public Hotspots in neighborhood streets? From what I can tell most seem to be located along major streets/thoroughfairs and more in business areas vs residential areas. Do the Hotspots used in home Gateways show up on the Xfinity App?

[Speed] PIA VPN slowdown after speed increase.

Anyone using private internet access PIA have you noticed slower VPN speeds after the speed increase? Ive spent hours trying to figure this out and Ive dealt with slowness on VPN but not consistent and not on every server i connect to. I even ran PIA speed test for particular PIA server that is slow and its fine when im on comcast but on VPN its 60-80Mbps Ive tried everything and only thing that works is I changed my mac address on my router and rebooted modem so Comcast would give me new IP after this my speeds on VPN were fine again but once i disconnected VPN or rebooted computer slower speeds came returned https://i.imgur.com/oEvHGv4.png Also this was posted in PIA forum pretty much same problem but on different provider and PIA support even said looks like throttling. https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/forum/discussion/30955/is-spectrum-throttling-pia

How much bandwidth do you typically use?

I was just curious. Since I don't download games anymore and I don't work from home my usage has been very low. I was surprised to see I almost hit 100 GB back in December. I don't have Netflix but I do a fair amount of youtube videos and some streaming. Anyway, I was curious to see how much bandwidth others use and if they ever come close to the 1024GB cap? I've never been anywhere near that. I don't think I've every even went over 100GB. I just noticed Xfinity would even allow me to exceed 1024GB 2 times without charge which is nice. [att=1]

[Caps] Data usage per month - how much do you use?

$

Hi Comcast folks. Over in the Optimum area we are discussing data usage, since we are unlimited. I know some of you are, some of you are not. Just curious what everyone here uses per month. For me, I have an average 20 to 25 devices connected at a time to the network, quite a bit more when family or friends come over. We use Google Wifi (3 pucks) for our router. We use anything from TV's (roku's) to xbox one to steam pc to nest cameras. No cable, streaming only, and we use about 2 to 2.5TB per month (1TB or so down, 1 to 1.5TB up) due to the nest cameras and working from home. [WiFi] block throttle??

$

Hey all. I have a clear throttle issue. It's like paranoia with my wifi signal. I have a wifi "smart socket" wall plug-in that has it's own wifi "network SSID" I have been trying to trick my service provider into giving me more bandwidth by changing my SSID back and forth between the wall socket and the home router. Whenever I switch to the wall socket my home router restores itself back to full bars. When I go to the home router it lags and sags down to two out of four bars. I've attempted to mask myself with tunnelbear. I don't really understand how "VPN Allotment's" work with data. For example, if I were to surf the web on my cell phone I would burn through 1 GB of data in one day pretty easily. Tunnelbear offers the customer 499MB. That doesn't seem like very much to me. For example, if I were to download one single movie that is more than 499MB, is that correct?? I can buy their service though. There have been other people on Youtube talking about other ways to mask the ISP from tracking you. That would (I suppose) prevent them from throttling you. Let me give you more information about what's happening: So I have a Dell Latitude. It's an i7 and an older business laptop. But I purchased a AC 1200 Netgear USB attachment. When I have full bars the speed is 100Mb per sec. When I am throttled I get 50 MB per sec. Half of the bars. What can I do? I'm looking for a service or an app. I can also follow directions to a pretty detailed and finite scale. But I don't have hundreds of hours of experience under my belt. Thanks.

Mod Note: This thread is for side discussion of 16, 24, 32 channel DS bonding. Since Comcast Supports Several Modems with 16x4 Bonding Capabilities, I was wondering If anybody out there with these modems on Comcast is seeing 16 channel DS bonding or at least more the 8channels bonded. MB8600 loses IPv4 connectivity ... IPv6 keeps working

$

Three days ago I upgraded from an Arris SB6183 to a Motorola MB8600. The SB8163 had been rock solid with my PFSense router/firewall setup. Since I made the switch I have had three random instances where I lost IPv4 connectivity, while IPv6 remained fully functional. When this happens, I am unable to pass any IPv4 traffic, including being unable to ping or log into the MB8600. I tried pings from both my LAN as well as from the PFSense GUI and command line. I also captured packets on the PFSense WAN interface during the attempted pings. Packet capture shows ICMP packets leaving the interface, but no IPv4 ICMP response from the modem or CMTS. Normal IPv6 traffic is visible in the packet captures. Rebooting PFSense did not help. Rebooting the modem fixed the issue both times. Modem signal levels look fine, including no corrected/uncorrected errors on the OFDM PLC channel and single digit corrected errors (and zero uncorrected) on a few of the QAM channels since the last modem restart last night. Modem hardware is v1.0, software 8600-6.1.1.19, and config file is d11_m_mb8600_blastpro_c01.cm. Lights on the modem: top/solid green, next 3/solid blue, bottom/flashing green Has anyone seen similar issues? I have come across a few threads here on DSLReports as well as on the Xfinity forums of several people having similar issues with the Arris SB8200: http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Internet-Archive/Frequently-loosing-IPv4-while-IPv6-is-fine/td-p/2923874 https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31767774-SB8200-losing-IPv4-connectivity-while-IPv6-works-fine At least one other person is running PFSense as well, so I'm not entirely ruling out it being an odd compatibility issue between PFSense and the Broadcom-based D3.1 modems, but the return packets are not hitting the interface's IPv4 stack, let alone to even being seen by the firewall rules, and I never saw this issue with the SB6183 and PFSense. The NIC I am using in the PFSense box is an Intel quad port NIC, using the igb driver. Is there any way to access the MB8600 interface via IPv6 so that I can check modem events when this happens? It seems like the modem events are cleared when I power-cycle the modem, so it makes it difficult to investigate the issue. Alternately, I have tried manually seting up a laptop for 192.168.100.99 and jacked into another port at the back of the modem (with my PFSense router still attached to port 1). When IPv4 is working, I can ping the modem at 192.168.100.1 and access the web interface. When IPv4 is not working, no ping response and no web interface access. This problem seems confined to the modem, not PFSense. It appears I am on an Arris E6000 CMTS (Cadent MAC 00:01:5c). My LAN is set up in the 10.x.x.x RFC address space, so there should be no conflict with the 192.168.x.x address space used by the modem for the GUI. The WAN address handed out by the CMTS for IPv4 is in the 75.x.x.x address space. Download speed tests are slightly slower for the MB8600 vs the SB6183 (consistently 290Mbps vs 300Mbps) [both tested via IPv4]. I grabbed the MB8600 on sale at Newegg last week while it was on sale in preparation to switch to a Gigabit plan. I'm not going to upgrade until this IPv4 stability issue is solved. I'm considering returning the MB8600 to Newegg, which is a shame because the sale price was really attractive.

Technically it's 31xD3.0 + 1 OFDM Phy Link Ch. (D3.1) and 4 up. Your MB8600 will only use the 96Mhz wide OFDM channel unless it has to failback to the 31 D3.0 QAM's on the DS side. [Plan] going into xfinity tomorrow considering leaving

I pay $110 for 60mb down 12 up business cable with NO CAPS ( that is important) and comcast have been great. A few hiccups but fixed right away and really a pleasant experience all round. BUT I am aware that I am paying way too much for my service and I want a better deal. I just want 60mb speed with no data caps and wonder if there is a deal to be had. Anyone recently negotiated a new deal? I have no outstanding commitments and can switch at any time. Right now I am considering a mesh solution that has become availible BUT if comcast reduce my bill I will stay.

Looking for Hotspot/Internet Options, what piece of equipment?

$

Hi All, I haven't posted anything here in a LONG time, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. I currently have Comcast/Xfinity for internet, and I am doing an experiment in which I'm going to use a hotspot for my whole-home internet, minus the cell phones, they'll stay on unlimited with our current cell provider. Now, I've got every single piece of whatever on wireless right now (computer, laptop, TiVos, printer... even an old Kodak W1020 wireless photo frame that receives uploads from Flickr! The very last thing I need is a way to connect my Vonage phone into the equation, so I'm asking this: (and forgive my foolishness for not knowing... I tried to Google it...) Do they make a piece of equipment that will pick up a wireless signal (like from my hotspot), and has an ethernet jack on it so I can connect my Vonage adapter? Here's what I've got: Linksys WRTP54G Vonage adapter & wired/wireless all-in-one router (LOVE this thing for all that it does, and have been using it for umpteen years.... ) Linksys RTP300 (this is the non-wireless version of the above... looks exactly alike, just doesn't have the antenna) So, what am I looking for, and if it exists, can I grab one at Best Buy or Walmart? Thank you all so much in advance... feel free to ask questions, I will hop on here to respond. Also, if there's a better place to post this, please let me know!
