[Connectivity] Arris XB6 issues
A few days ago I had the xb6 installed with the gig service. I’ve had nothing but issues. Wifi drops. Completely disappears. Wired devices no longer have internet. This happens randomly throughout the day. Tried bridge mode into my Apple AirPort Extreme, wifi of course is now fine, but still loose internet randomly. The only way it comes back is if I completely power cycle the mode.
Comcast states it is passing signal tests etc. I am getting a replacement in the morning. Hopefully this fixes it, but has anyone else is having such issues. My service with my CM600 modem and the Apple extreme was rock solid for about 8 months. Not so much as a hiccup, now thing but troubles.
The xb6 is running the latest firmware as of today. It seems like to OS just crashes out, given that it doesnt seem to recover on its own.

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service
Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626
If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek
The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

[Connectivity] Comcast keeps deactivating my modem and cannot explain why.
I should begin by saying, I've reached out to every communications channel has - direct support here on DSLReports, comcastcares twitter, their tech support. Last night I filed a FCC complaint and in the morning will file a complaint with the Florida Cable Franchise Authority - the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (odd pairing, I know)
We had gigabit internet installed just over 2 months ago. At the time in my area, you couldn't use your own gigabit modem (or so they claimed) so they gave me a TC4400 from technicolor. In the time since, I have found it in walled garden status, essentially deactivated, 3 times. The first time they (CHSI support) it was because someone audited my account and found the modem isn't certified for use on gigabit so they just deactivated it, no call, no e-mail, nothing. As for the last 2 times, I have no idea why, probably the same line of rubbish.
I can't get a straight answer out of them, and based on the last 3 deactivations, it's probably safe to assume it's going to continue. While I wait for the FCC and/or the State of Florida Dept of Agriculture/Consumer Svcs to get someone at a (hopefully) higher level of support than the 800 number, anyone have any thoughts or input on how I can resolve this or what causing it, why they are doing it, etc? It's super irritating. I work from home and while we have 2 ISPs here and a dual wan router that fails over, the speed on the second connection isn't as great. It's like an 8 lane highway (gigabit downlink) cut into 2 lanes (100 megabit) and every device in the house coming to a halt trying to squeeze thru a smaller pipe.

Motorola SB 6141
Can any one confirm that the SB6141 is no longer supported for retail units?
Reason I ask, because I saw a thread where someone claimed they no longer supported it. I then went on the Supported Device list and sure as shit they labeled the device "Not supported". I mean mine is still running fine, but I was wondering if I need to start looking for a new modem. Like are they going to kill this modem at some point. This had to have happens not long about, a few weeks ago Comcast "accidental" deleted our modem from our account. My mom had to call and give them the MAC address and she had no issues provisioning.

[Connectivity] Loose everything same time each night
Long story short for years I'm told we are in a low signal area. Currently I'm going on 5 weeks of no tv or internet at almost same time each night and comes back early am. It's only me and one other neighbor on box. Comcast box is 100 feet from my house and there is a booster on that line to my house. My neighbor isn't home at night and has no problems when he is. From line coming in house I only have it split 2 times. My office for internet and bedroom for tv. I'm not getting anywhere bc when they come out it's working. It goes off after tech hours. I'm not super educated on this but I did by a splitter that was suppose to boost the signal and that did nothing. How can I loose signal every night? I'm now on a level 3 tech and they can't figure it out

[Equip] lightning blew up my modem
So we had a lightning strike recently, that appears to have come through the Comcast line. The Comcast modem itself has black marks on the back of it, and when I took it off the wall (it was mounted), there were black scorch marks on the wall itself. It's a dead modem, needless to say. It was plugged into a Tripp-Lite surge protector, but I guess that wasn't enough.
This particular building has been prone to lightning strikes, and I would like to make sure that everything is grounded properly, in attempt to prevent this from happening again. There is a pedestal about 100 feet from the building, and it looks like underground wiring from there into the building. I don't know much about proper grounding techniques, but if I call Comcast, will they come out and verify everything? Anyone know if the modem will be replaced if it was damaged by lightning? It's a monthly rental type deal. (I may buy a Surfboard as a replacement, but that still brings up a question, will Comcast want money for their rental modem that was struck by lightning?)
Thanks for any tips from anyone who has been through lightning damage, or can offer advice on electrical grounding.

[Speed] Sigh: CSR tries to tell me my speed prob. due to "EoL" 6141
I've been experiencing instances of severe drops in download speeds recently due to low SNR on one of my downstream channels, and I suppose uncorrectable codeword buildup--previous thread here: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30719052-Speed-Experiencing-strange-speed-problems-in-Portland-with-SB6141
The problem occurred maybe once every week or two before, but yesterday happened at least 3 times before I went to bed (requiring a reboot every time to fix), and overnight again to the point that my d/l speeds were down to less than 1 Mb/s when I got up this morning.
When I called Comcast tech support yesterday they told me my modem was End of Life (and I know it is as far as leased equipment goes, but mine is retail and owned). They're sending someone out on Sunday.
Questions:
1. Is it bogus for the CSR to bring up the EoL issue at all here (I'm thinking yes)?
2. If the problem is with the coax cables/connections in my house's walls, why the extreme change in frequency of its occurrence? I think this argues for something wrong on Comcast's end of the connection as it comes into the box on the side of my house.

[Plan] Any Comcast Internet Essentials customers here?
I know that if you are, you might not want to admit it. Anyways, I have the service, and while it's mostly pretty stable, and I think not subject to a usage cap, it is slow. 12Mbit/sec down, 1Mbit/sec up.
Downloading a bunch of Linux ISOs, takes 2-3 hours for a group of them.
It was slow enough, that instead of cancelling my FIOS 50/50 plan, I boosted it to 75/75. (I have both.)
I am using an Asus AC68R router, flashed with Shibby Tomato firmware 140-MultiWAN. I use(d) the multi-Wan feature, to do weighted round-robin load-balancing between the connections, although now that I've boosted my speed on my FIOS connection, I may just use the Comcast connection for fail-over.

[Equip] DOCSIS 3.1 modems -- What routers support WAN port aggregation?
I apologize if this is something which has been answered in other threads--but is there a consensus on what routers can support WAN port aggregation for speeds of 1Gbps and higher?
I see a few posts where people refer to dual gigabit WAN, but the router's manuals suggest this is traditional dual WAN in terms of failover not speed aggregation.
I'm shopping around to replace my Arris 6183 and Apple Time Capsule -- 1Gbps DOCSIS 3.1 is around the corner in my area and I'd like to make sure whatever HW I'm buying will actually support it. I like the Motorola MB8600 but it's not clear what routers would play nice with 2-4 port aggregation for WAN.
Thanks

Can someone explain this?
I was on Comcast's 75 down 10 up tier. A week ago i got Comcast's 1 gigabyte down and 35 up tier. When i was on the 75/10 i would consistently get 500 ms to 3200 ms bufferbloat and get a F grade on dslreports speedtest. Now that i have 1 gig service i get literally A+ and almost nil bufferbloat. Can some one explain why a lower tier gets and F grade and a higher tier get and A+ grade? I live in Jacksonville Florida. Any explanation or advice would really be appreciated. Thanks Gals and Guys:-)

[Install] Activation keeps popping up every week in the morning!
I upgraded to the new gigabit service. They gave me a shiny technicolor modem and a netgear x6 router. On the first day of install the gentlemen installing the equipment say he's never had this problem before. I had to leave early to go to work so my roommate stuck around and supervised. So when I returned from work everything was working.
Then I woke up the next morning right before I go to work "Activate your new equipment" I called them they said they had to update the modem files. This happened 3 times. Yes 3 different called. So the 4th one the tech comes out to my place with a trainee. I told him the problem of the activation persists. Instead of probably giving me a new modem that it maybe faulty he just issues a file reload "It probably won't do that again he says as he leaves" .. Yep next morning AGAIN.
Now this morning again, I called comcast and asked for a refund of their failed installation. The gentlemen being the "Tech Supervisor" was very rude. I told him that I've been having the same problem yadadada for a few weeks now. "Oh I see something wrong with the modem file" he reuploaded the file. Right now I'm waiting to wake up in the morning with the same problem. I'm kinda exhausted dealing with them and considering a downgrade to have reliable service. Instead of giving me the F***ing run around why don't you just replace the equipment already? Sorry I'm a little annoyed.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017

Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. [Connectivity] Internet Drops
For approximately 2 months now my internet with Comcast has been dropping at random times. Typically lasts 2 to 3 minutes. The link light is still on. Wi-Fi is still connected everything on the LAN side continues to work I can in any and all internal addresses. I can not be being anything beyond the modem.
Modem has been replaced
Cables and connectors have been replaced on the outside of the house all the way to the PED.
We have had 4 techs show and still no resolution.

[Business] Comcast Business / Static IP / Bridge Mode - what am I missing?
At a site I manage with Comcast Business I need a static IP but I also need the modem bridged. I use my own Cisco firewall and have VPNs to various other sites and cloud locations so nothing can work unless I have a static IP/bridged setup. Comcast support are however absolutely adamant that if I get a static IP the modem cannot be bridged but they can bridge it if I have a dynamic address.
I got this same answer from two different techs and from an escalated engineer at Comcast. At the moment I am setup with dynamic IP and bridged mode and everything is working however once their dynamic IP changes all my VPNs will fail so obviously not a long term solution.
So am I getting correct information from Comcast as it just does not seem right to me? I ask as I manage another site with Comcast business and it has a static and its modem is bridged and all works exactly as I need it to.
thank you!

[WiFi] xfinitywifi hotspot stopped working
I have xfinitywifi hotspot enabled on my Arris gateway, it's the only reason I pay $10/month to rent the modem from Comcast (we routinely have people in the house that want to use the internet). About a month ago, the hotspot suddenly stopped working. For a while, it would show 5 bars but you would connect, and it would only be 1-2 bars and barely stable. Then it stopped working entirely. It still broadcasts, shows 5 bars. On phones (Android or iPhone), you try to connect to it, it might say "connecting..." for a few seconds, but then it just goes to "saved" or even "disabled". On a Windows laptop, I try to connect, it spins for a few seconds and then pops up message "Windows was unable to connect to xfinitywifi".
I tried rebooting the modem (via unplugging, reset button, or having the Xfinity app send a restart signal). I tried disabling the hotspot in my account settings, waiting 24 hours, and re-enabling it again. I called support, they passed me to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support people who made no suggestions beyond "try disabling and re-enabling wireless adapter on your laptop and see if that fixes it".
So finally I thought it was a hardware issue with the Arris gateway. Last week I went to an Xfinity store and swapped it out for a new one. Hooked it up, lo and behold - xfinitywifi started working again! It worked for all of 2 days, on the 3rd day it started doing the same thing again, where it broadcasts but no device can actually connect to it.
Has anyone run into something like this?

[WiFi] XFINITY Hot Spots Reliability
I am getting totally confused over the performance of the hot spots and which they are. I have been using them for a very long time and in the last few months they hardly ever work. When I get on them I have no internet connectivity or else they constantly drop of (I am talking about staying in one place like an office, store, etc.
I am seeing some strange networks out there and none of them worked for me today while at my dentist office. On my iPhone &iPad they all showed 2 -3 bars on the antenna icon, but I had no connectivity when I chose them.
These are the networks I saw
xfinity (lower case)
XFINITY (upper case)
Cable WiFi ( it said sign into infinty network)
The last one was an acronym, something like TMCI and that also said sign into infinity network
I tried all 4 and either cit showed connected then fell off, or I would get a message saying no internet connection. Any idea what is going on or why I cannot get connectivity anymore? I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and have seen this in a 30 mile radius, even in Chicago.
Thanks
