[Business] Can I drop static IPs and from 75/15 to 50/10 while in contract?

I upgraded to the 75/15 plan about a year ago or so which I think extended my contract 3 years from that point. In any case, I'm definitely in contract for quite a while to come. I'm looking to cut some costs and am planning to move my photos hosted on my FreeBSD server to "the cloud" so I'm pondering removing my static IPs and also dropping back to the 50/10 plan I was on. I'm not entirely sure how much this would save me, but I'm paying $158/mo right now and I think I'd save $40 in the speed drop and $20 in the static IPs so should get my down to $98/mo. Questions: 1. is this allowed? Or am I only allowed to increase speeds? 2. can I drop the static IPs without penalty? 3. am I still permitted to run an sshd/web server/etc on the dynamic IP for the purposes of hobby stuff? Thanks! -- "I drank what?" -Socrates

Brian Roberts may be making public statements about not being able to raise prices, but if my latest bill is any evidence, that word hasn't made it down to his product managers. Lots of interesting goodies buried in the fine print: - Broadcast TV fee going from $1.50 to $3.75 (150% increase!) - Regional Sports Fee going from $1.00 to $2.00 (100% increase!) - Blast Plus (Internet & Digital Econ TV) $84.95 to $89.95 (Grandfathered) - Most double and triple play bundles going up $4-$5 - A new Blast Pro (150Mbps) service is being offered, but no pricing listed

[Speed] Issue with SB6183 and Extreme 105+

I'm in South Florida and have been subscribed to Extreme 105 service for a while now. I received an email from Comcast in August stating that my speeds would be increasing soon (yay!), but that I needed a new modem to take advantage of the upgrade as my old SB6120 was end-of-life. I figured that after a few years, there was no harm in getting a newer/more future-proof modem, so I bought a new SB6183 a few days later and self-activated it without issue. When I ran a speed test (always the Comcast test), I noticed that I was only getting about 85-92 Mbps down, whereas with my SB6120 I had been getting anywhere between 105 and 124 Mbps. Finding this odd, I reconnected the 6120 and ran the same speed test, and was immediately getting in the expected range again (in this case, 107-110 Mbps). I hopped on to the Comcast tech support chat system and brought up the discrepancy with the hopes of seeing if perhaps there was some sort of configuration problem with the modem. The rep was courteous and understanding, but she literally told me - quoting from the transcript I saved - "Just a heads up, your old modem is better than your new one. I suggest that you rather swap it and go back to your old cable modem..." That's definitively not the case, and considering it was an email from Comcast that encouraged me to buy a new supported modem despite my old one working fine, it's pretty frustrating to be told that. The rep checked my signal strength and such, and said everything was "green" and "functioning well." Clearly something is up, so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to what could be causing the speed discrepancies. A couple of notes: 1. During my chat session and the speed tests, my modem was connected directly to my computer so as to eliminate any potential issues occurring between the modem and my router. Regardless, the results are the same whether the router is in use or not. 2. I ran the [beta] test at http://speedexperience.comcast.net and everything checks out as okay except that, under the modem, it says that "Your modem's connection to your device cannot support your current speed tier." It recommends replacing the ethernet cable with a gigabit-capable cable, however I'm using a Cat 6 cable regardless of which modem I have connected, and the older modem still performs better than the new one. I also can't run this same test when the SB6120 is connected to compare results, as the test errors out (it probably only tries to connect to the 6183). I can post the signal strength and such of the new modem if anyone thinks it would help. Thanks to all!

[Equip] Arris TM722 vs TG862

Question for the masses...I had issues with a Technicolor going into bridge mode as I have an ASUS RT-N66U router running Tomato by Shibby for extra control on the kids devices. The tech on the phone knew that I had my own router, yet he still suggested I get the TG862 with the WiFi and for some reason I cannot get the WiFi completely disabled. It doesn't show a name but it does show up...I changed it to channel 11 to get it as far away from the channel I was using but still it's extra noise in the house that I don't need. I know it is the TG862 because I can unplug it and the signal goes away. When I went to pickup equipment...the Comcast Rep. brought out the TM722 which I know is just the modem/emta (which is all I need) but going by what the tech suggested I requested the TG862. Would I be better off going back and swapping for the TM722 since it has no wireless? Is there anyway to completely disable the wireless on the TG862? My big concerns are that I need bridge mode obviously and I must be able to VPN into my office (which the same tech told me is near impossible with the Technicolors). I just want to know if I go with the TM722 has anyone had issues with bridge mode and VPN connections? Suggestions/Comments/Criticisms are definitely welcomed! ...We are getting rid of it. It's been a stable connection 99% of the time for us, but as my Dad is working for DirecTV and wanting to save a few bucks here and there, we're switching to Uverse (he gets a 50% discount on internet). So it was nice talking here and checking out if there's going to be a speed increase and even helping out with showing what areas got a speed increase. I know uverse has 250gb cap, but it's currently not enforce. So I'm not gonna have to check my usage meter daily as i did with comcast, so i guess that's a plus.

[Moving] Comcast service nearby, Comcast CLAIMS NOT in area

I have Comcast Business and am needing to move. My BEST location option presently doesn't have service. I'm willing to look into what it would cost to run service to this location. NOT FAR around the corner from this location, what appears to be Comcast cable stops. I called Comcast Business and they supposedly did a site survey. They CLAIM there's nothing in the area, YET my eyes see OTHERWISE. When I point this out I've so far gotten no response or explanation from them. HOW can I get connected with LOCAL Comcast people who can talk to me?

Hey guys, I'm trying to post to the Comcast Direct forum, but it keeps taking me to a page stating that I can't read other people's posts (but I'm free to post my own by hitting Back and post). When I do that, it just creates a post in the Comcast HSI forum instead of Comcast Direct. What am I doing wrong?? [Connectivity] Cable Modem (Arris TM722G) has developed single channel errors

Have had this modem [Arris TM722g(4 channels down/ 3 channels up) in Central New Jersey for about three years. Cable modem performance has been great (ie Error rate is ypically ~~ 1 in 10 to the -8) . About a month ago Comcast apparently changed the Frequency in Channel 2 to 711 MHz. Since then my errors in this channel have increased to 1 in 10^-5 . There have been some additional errors in the other channels but performance (in the other channels ) has stayed in the 1 in 10^-7 range. I have taken detail data over the last two years every few days. My modem would usually go two weeks to a month without even one error. Have been monitoring the data more closely for the last two weeks since the higher error rate has appeared. What do you think is the best way to handle it with Comcast to solve the problem. Thanks, Paul Weeks

Ok so I have the same speed config speedtierextreme2 or d11_m_sb6141_speedtierextreme2_c01.cm complete config based on the logs but I'm still only seeing the same speed I had with the old modem. I was told via email that my 6121 was EOL and I needed to upgrade to take advantage of the Blast 150Mbps package I should be getting. My speed tests are barely 80/12 right now.... what do I need to do to get just even near 150/50 or whatever the upload should be? Also has anyone seen this garbage?? http://customer.xfinity.com/help-and-support/internet/data-usage-trials/

[Caps] New monthly data usage

The new 300GB usage is of great concern to me considering that so far for the month Comcast data usage shows I have used 52GB and they cannot or will not let me know where the data is coming from. Long argument with them today and they cannot because of privacy etc tell me what is being used. We do not stream movies which uses the most data. I would have had to stream 16+ HD movies to get to that amount. Emails and web surfing is minimal. So bottom line is they can claim any amount of data usage by any customer and charge accordingly and they cannot substantiate the usage. As far as I am concerned that is highway robbery! Dont know if anyone else here feels the same about what is going on and if anything can be done to protect users Thanks for reading Bill

[Equip] I'm a Comcast newbie - Question(s)

Hi.....I am going to be getting blast on the 105 down plan where I will be moving in the middle of October. I'm going to have a few questions, and I can think of one now. I'm planning to bundle my Xfinity blast with TV. In doing so, I want to purchase my own Modem, the SB6183, and attach my own router, the Linksys WRT1900AC. Does the fact that I'm also going to be getting TV service affect how I want to configure this? Excuse me if this is a strange question, but I've had Dish for many years for TV, and I'm not too familiar with the way that one coaxial puts through both the TV and Internet signals. Thanks. -- I occasionally hung out with the boys at 5150 back in the day.

[Security] Security/Privacy concerns?

We have had Comcast for almost 8 years and moved to a new address recently (just 5 houses down the street). The original account (non X1) was still active when the new address/account was hooked up/activated with X1 triple play. The technician did not have physical access to the original equipment. I am NOT using a separate router. At the old address I had set a personalized SSID and PASSWORD by logging into the Comcast modem. That SSID AND PASSWORD was transferred to the new equipment, at the new address, with a new account number without any interaction. While the old account and equipment was still in use. How concerned should I be about this? Is this an indication that I should invest in a wifi router? Am I just paranoid?

A drop that was buried a few years ago has become visible in many areas and needs to be reburied. It's already had to be repaired twice over the past couple months. Yet Comcast still has not taken care of it despite the repair techs and phone agents putting in reports. How can I get this resolved?

Preparing for Xfinity 150Mb service

Ok after many years of ATT 6Mbps (measured 5.1Mbps) for $50 month it is time to give ATT the heave ho. I dont like renting devices so after looking over these threads here is what I have decided to buy. 1) ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 (the 16x makes notable difference over 8x even for 150Mbps service according to one thread here). 2) NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (R7000) I feel confident you guys will endorse #1 & 2, however I dont feel 100% confident about my Ethernet card. I found an internet post saying that I need to be able to see the Gb option in a pull down under the Win7 device manager for the onboard card. The card is labeled "Realtek PCIe GBE family controller" and it only has a single value of Auto Negotiation. That is, the pull down only shows that and no other options. Since my mother board docu says that the card is a “Realtek® 8112L Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET2” I should not be so paranoid of there not being any pull down options, right? . You guys agree and I am good to go with #1 & 2 only? Thanks !
