[Equip] which docsis 3 modem etc?

$

Please, Just two general Comcast questions, for me and others: The service I have is likely their most basic speed, or maybe one step up. Adequate now. Comcast nj is saying that docsis 2 is going away, and I have to get a docsis 3 modem etc. But Comcast website and phone folks seem to be recommending modems that are several years old. Question 1: I.d like to purchase a docsis 3 modem etc. One that would work with basic service, but also work if I upgrade my basic service to faster. Recommendations???? === question 2: Docsis 3.1/.2/.3??? service and modems are expected late 2015? Any recommendations for modems now that would be upgradeable to that, or should we just wait? ===

[E-mail] How to tell if email addys are greylisted ?

I suspect that 2 domains are caught up in the Comcast "gray list" (I think that's what it's called) in which the emails are blocked at the corporate level and don't even reach my junk folder or inbox. When it last happened a couple of years ago, there used to be an online form one could submit -- no longer. One is overseas - bt.com and the other is a USA business that sends reminder emails. Is there a way to find out, please ? I can't contact the companies to find out if they're getting a bounce back message. Thanks in advance. [Equip] ZYXEL BRG35503 modem no longer supported?? Help?

I have two ZYXEL BRG35503 Docsis 3 modems, one at home, one at our church, purchased from newegg last year, and working fine until this morning. Our Comcast Internet is down both places, fine for our neighbors though. The status light is blinking. Tech support cannot reach the modem. I cannot believe it is a coincidence that my two locations with previously working Zyxel modems are all of a sudden not working. Any ideas? Who to talk to? How to get a hold of someone higher in comcast tech support to actually look at this issue? I am borrowing internet from my kind neighbor right now but this needs to be resolved. [Equip] So much for the Netgear CM500...

Just tried to install the Netgear CM500 modem and it did not work. Walled garden hung, so I called and got a pretty good rep on the phone and stayed with me for an hour or more. He got it all provision and set up but all web pages were slow to load. The Comcast speed test went to 91% and then the speed started dropping and it never finished. Tried new LAN cable and hooked in an older XP machine and the same thing occurred after many resets. Pulled it out and hooked up the old Zoom 5341J and I was back in action. This CM500 goes back to Amazon. Fail in my book.

[CustSvc] Comcast Has Sunk Even Lower

Some of you may know of my ongoing battle with this deceitful corporation. A little background > http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29804978-Signals-Lots-of-incorrectables My battle with them has been going on for 10 months now. In my last post in the link above you can see that I filed a complaint with the FCC. I was awarded $300.00 compensation which is not very much considering what they charge per month but I accepted it because it wasn't really about money. It was about Comcast's poor customer service, their vindictive employees and of course a service that actually works. All I wanted was the service I pay a premium price for and nothing more but they took it upon themselves to purposely and willfully create this rift between myself (a valued customer of 35 years) and themselves. Fast forward, after only 1 month of receiving credit to my account they started over-charging my account to the tune of $80.00 per month. My bill went from $176.00 (My promotional rate that was promised until April of 2016) to $256.00 per month. So in less then 4 months they will have stolen back my award of $300.00. I have contacted them several times including, Jeremy Cassell, (Executive Customer Relations, FCC Response Team) who handled my FCC complaint. All my attempts to resolve this issue have gone ignored. They don't return my phone calls or respond to my emails. I am now in the process of pursuing this matter until I have exhausted every legal option. -- Stop The Mindless Killings, Stop Overfishing

[WiFi] Comcast HotSpots

$

Ok first off it's not like it matters to me, its hasn't ruined my day or anything. But if they're gonna offer the hotspot feature throughout your city it should probably give you an internet connection while connected to it from 20 feet away. I was at the car dealer today getting my car serviced and they had the TV on and I noticed a Comcast wifi device. I checked my available sources and Xfinity was available. So I tried it. I connected and had no internet connection. Maybe they're not aware of it, maybe they are. But when you have full signal strength and no connection to the internet from multiple locations all around that have a comcast hotspot, there's something wrong. Even though I have Comcast Internet at home, I don't have comcast internet devices in my home, I have my own devices. So I don't know if those who have comcast devices can deny internet access to their hotspot or not. If so...maybe that's the issue I'm seeing. -- Insert thoughtful/witty/meaningful/poetic/funny/ /deep/rude/stupid/random/sig here. Be unique...ya know, like everyone else.

Modem dropping connection

Hello, I have comcast blast internet with digital TV+HBO. I've been having issues with the modem dropping internet connection for many months. I've changed 3 modems so far and 3 or 4 routers. My current setup is an SB6121 docsis 3 modem (to take advantage of 50Mbps speed) and Netgear R7000 router. When successfully connected, I get stated speeds but the modem has issues with keeping the connection. It drops out several times during the day. I have attached my modem signal levels. I'm not an expert but my upstream power level is 57 dBmV which is high from reading other posts on here. I have had a comcast technician come out and had the modem drop the connection while he was here. He replaced some splitters and the connection was fine for a while. But it's been acting up again for the last few months. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in diagnosing the issue. Thank you.

[Speed] Beta of tool to diagnose speed issues - feedback requested

$

FYI - We're working on a new tool to try and take some guesswork out of connection troubleshooting. We're launching a beta today - and we really want your feedback because we know there are bugs to squash! ;-) Any time someone comes in here with speed issues, the first steps are always to check your signals. And so we are attempting to automate that process, so you don't have to check your local modem page and interpret RF levels on your own. We also check if your device is end-of-life, and whether your speed tests are in line with the speed for which you are paying. We then try to guide you to an avenue that will solve your issue with minimal effort. The beta test tool is called Speed Experience (https://speedexperience.comcast.net/). You sign in with your Xfinity account; so you don't need to be home to use this tool. If you are having issues and would like to give it a try, please do. There is a form at the bottom where you can send us feedback about the tool. This is a beta, so there will be bugs! If you get a message that we couldn't detect your device or your signals, please take a moment to use the feedback form at the bottom and let us know. We are working on adding some more features to it, including WiFi signal issues and automatic submission of your problems to a team that can resolve them (so you don't even need to call or chat). In the backlog, I have: 1 – If the RF levels are out-of-spec, automatically create a ticket rather than driving the customer to chat/call. 2 – If the customer has a wireless gateway, show wireless network attributes (SSID name, channel, etc.) and make WiFi-improvement suggestions. 3 – The results page should provide a permalink, so the customer can share the results. Thanks for the help testing this tool! -- JL Comcast Engineering https://twitter.com/jlivingood

A few months back I have had similar issues on and off for several months, then out of nowhere the issues seemed to correct itself. I thought finally Comcast fixed whatever what was wrong and all was well and didn't think anything about it. Today it seems to be back again. I ran several speed tests and my download seemed in spec for blast 50 (55-60mbps) My upload however was only 150-300 kbps. I ran the dslreports speed test and got a rating of F for bufferbloat? I attached my modem signal and log screen shots. Modem: SB6121 Router: WDNR4500 Switch: D-Link DGS-1024D Is this likely a Comcast issue? Or could it be possibly something on my end?

[Equip] Few questions about new 5341j

$

I've been running a 4x4 Arris TM602A for a very solid 1.75 years and just pulled the trigger on a Zoom 5341j, mostly for savings from $10 monthly rental fee that I thought I saw going up to $15, sometime, somewhere. The Beta Diagnostic Tool has been telling me that all is well with my Arris and that it is capable of handling any of the Comcast speed packages available. I started with Performance and it has been free upgraded to about 50/6. After reading all the new free upgrades around me in the now-nuked NorCal upgrade thread, I kept rebooting the Arris but never got new provisioning. This was all tested from behind my router (see below) and I never tried connected directly from PC to Arris. Directions for authenticating the Zoom involved by-passing the router and connecting directly from the PC nic, which I did. The process was a little bit "fits and starts" but I finally happened upon the right combination of reloads and buttons pushed. When I had internet still directly connected, I was testing about 89/6 on IPv4, a little lower on IPv6 at the Comcast test site. When I got the (IPv4-only) LAN all back together, more fits and starts, the test is back to about 50/6. The router is a WRT54GL v1.1 running Tomato firmware and it has 100Mbps ethernet, so my naive expectation is it could pass 89, at least much more than 50, when the traffic is all to/from one computer. That's one question. Does this router have such a limitation? Another question is the downstream power levels on the Zoom. When the tech installed the Arris, he talked about getting these close to zero +/-, ideally, and I thought he put a terminated splitter just before the modem to accomplish this: [att=1] They have settled not far from zero when I've looked and an example can be seen in the up-post link. Here is what the Zoom is looking like and it is slowly acquiring uncorrectables, although I've seen someone report he doesn't get any: [att=2] I've thought about taking the splitter out and seeing what breaks but probably someone reading this knows what's happening. The elements of the LAN are sketched out below. PS3 is hardly used anymore. The IGEL is about 10W of a 24/7/365.25 hobby Hiawatha web server in Puppy Linux. The HP-GT7725 has an Hauppage tuner, an installation of Manjaro for recording OTA TV in Kaffeine, and an installation of the most excellent KODI, formerly OpenELEC, for viewing media files over the LAN. The HD Homerun also has a couple of tuners for OTA and broadcasts the stream over the LAN. DNS 323 stores the recordings and other video files for playing in KODI. Brother MFC and PC desktop help get things done for me. [att=3] Thanks.

[IPv6] Possible SB-6183 IPv6 Issue.

Just wanted to post this and see if anybody else has noticed this issue. Using the SB-6183 on windows computers IPv6 works great 10/10 pass every time. On any other devices such as iphones, ipads and Android devices it shows i have real working IPv6 but it is avoiding using it. I thought this was strange so i hooked up my Zoom 5341J and bingo now all devices pass IPv6 10/10 every time. Is there something going on with the 6183 and IPv6 i tested this multiple times with the same result every test Any thoughts ? Wanted to add this happens even with two other routers so i dont think my AC68U is generating the problem.

We are planning new topics to report the rollouts. Please be patient. My volunteer is swamped at the moment.
