i see this being referenced to as a problem often. i can say that I currently have an install of an SMCD3G, and am using this dreaded "double NAT" without any issue whatsoever. the primary router is configured with WAN IP 10.1.10.2, default gateway 10.1.10.1. i'm even forwarding an OpenVPN port to a VPN server behind the primary router. no issues.
for kicks i got out some spare routers and chained 4 of them together, connected eventually to the switch with my current cable modem. i effectively had "quadruple-NAT". once again, no probems.
indeed, many cellular carries (and, i might predict, Comcast sometime in the future) implement large-scale NAT for all their subscribers.
