I had a TG862G for two years. It had decent coverage, I could even get the signal outside in a room above my garage, and in all parts of my house.
I had trouble with it recently, after a software update, and then one of the Ethernet ports went back. I took it to swap out, and I think the lady started to give me the same one, but then she paused and said she would give me one with better wifi. She gave me a SMCD3GNV.
The SMCD3GNV has same or better throughput and latency on my Ethernet connection, and its software, going through browser, is much snappier than the TG862's, but its wireless coverage is bad. Parts of my house, where we regularly used a wifi connected device with the TG862, cannot get a signal most of the time with the SMCD3GNV.
I am debating whether to get my own modem and router, or swap out the SMCD3GNV.
If I swap out, should I request a TG862 again, or is there a Comcast provided gateway with better wifi coverage?
