Hello...I provide technical support for associates within a company that has a few offices and numerous people who work remotely throughout the country. Been trying to help one remote worker who is about 25 minutes outside of Lancaster, PA.
Received a help call from this person who stated starting on Friday 1/29 their VPN connection would drop then re-connect during the day. This is bad as this person lives in a Mainframe application all day long. The blip of the VPN disconnecting then re-connecting breaks the Mainframe connectivity (as it is a network dependent application)
Went through the basic troubleshooting trying to get to the bottom of the situation. It was stated that a Verizon LTE network extender was plugged into the router (for cell phone) along with a land line phone for IP phone service. Keep in mind there were no issues for over a year before this started. Had our guy unplug these devices from the router. The issue still persisted.
Trying to rule out the wireless connection we hard wired the laptop into the router via an ethernet cable. The same dropping continued with no consistent time to the drops. Re-installed the VPN software and certificates to no avail. Verified wireless software and ethernet drives are up to date. Been combing through VPN logs but the am unable to locate the magic nugget of information that will resolve this mystery.
We did have the associate work at a relative's house for a day about an hour from home. In this location there were no drops in connectivity. This rules out the laptop. Comcast was called and the home equipment was restarted from the support desk. This did not resolve the issue.
The residence has robust internet speeds with low latency to the host server (basic speed tests). That is not the be all end all as far as line quality but we as a tech team have been fighting bad internet with our calls since pandemic started and do not feel this is the case here. All other devices in the house are functional with no noticeable disrupts in connectivity.
Has anyone experienced this and what could we look at with the home network? The modem is provided by Comcast and is compatible with the current environment. As a rule we do not troubleshoot home equipment but am trying to help out a person who is on an island with this issue (and desperate for resolution). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Equip] Advise on Modem/ router/ voice.
I have a family member switching to Comcast and want to buy their own equipment and not pay the rental.
They will be having a voice service with Extreme 600 down 15 up internet.
What would be a good all-in-one unit for them? I am sure they will never be going any higher on the internet speed.
Thanks

[Account] Switch service to my wife's name for new customer deals?
My glorious $70/month gigabit promo ends next month. I've tried multiple times to try and renew at a discounted rate, but have had no success (called retention line, spoke to reps on the comcast subreddit, etc). The best deal they could offer me was $95/month with a one year contract, whereas the self-service website is offering me gigabit for $100 with no contract.
When I browse deals at my address as a new customer, I'm seeing gigabit at $85/month with a one year contact, with each slower tier being $10 cheaper.
I'm toying with the idea of having my wife sign up as a new customer to get this better pricing, but there are some logistics involved since we both WFH and can't be without internet for long while the transition occurs.
Have any of you successfully done an account switch at your address and minimized service outage?

Performance Starter - Paying full price $55.95/mo
I currently have the stand alone performance starter (25/3) plan. I haven't been on any kind of promotional pricing for several years now. Currently paying $55.95/mo which in itself is ridiculous for what it is. I tried getting any promo I could online, said I was willing to be on a 12 or 24/mo contract with paperless billing and auto payment even, but the agent I spoke with kept trying to up-sell and get me to sign up for a double or triple play package. Frustrated I gave up.
Anyone have any luck physically walking into a xfinity store looking for a promotion? There is one not more than 5 minutes from me. I am debating about walking in there right now.

Upgraded to Extreme Pro 1000 only see upload increase
I upgraded from Extreme Pro 500 to 1000, only seeing upload increase but not download. Is it because of my model (CM8200A), config file rejected, or do I need to enable LAG on both CM8200A and RT-AX88U?

What happened in Eastern MA at ~11PM-ET on Feb/24?
I lost an SSH session tonight and then saw that my router warned me that it had switched to the LTE backup -- this isn't super unusual. Outage was just a few minutes.
What was unusual is that Nest emailed warnings to me that both of my parents' doorbell cameras also went offline at 11PM -- we all live in separate towns within 10-20 miles, but we're all on Comcast -- seems like crazy odds we'd all have an outage at the same time unless it was something substantial (and regional)
Curious if anyone on the forum (from this area or not) noticed the hiccup tonight, or if anyone knows what might have happened?

Did Xfinity turn off 2.4ghz hotspots?
Looks like whole neighborhood is only 5ghz xfinitywifi. Did Xfinity turn off residential 2.4ghz hotspots?
Noticed my gateway is no longer broadcasting 2.4ghz hotspot for older devices to use only 5ghz. Tried disabling and re-enabling hotspot even factory reset. Checked with multi devices with SSID scanner.

Comcast to AT&T Plex Streaming Reliability?
I just moved into a building that only has service from Comcast. Previously I had Sonic VDSL2 service 110/60. For years I've run a Plex server. One friend has AT&T 1000/1000 fiber and they'd stream 20Mbps 1080p videos from my Plex server without buffering. Now that I'm on Comcast 1000/35, even with nothing else happening on the network, it seems to struggle to provide a reliable stream to the AT&T connection.
Have others noticed a choke point in the peering between Comcast and AT&T? Or is the paltry Comcast upload just not enough for what I was doing on my VDSL connection?

Are error counts too high on my D3.0 cable modem?
I made sure coax connections are screwed tight. I use gocoax moca 2.1 adapters in my house because Comcast connection drops in my bedroom but needed signal in the living room which is dark loop and as bonus got wired LAN connection between my bedroom and living room. I am not using any splitters. I use Netgear CM600. My signals seem to be within specs though upstream levels are little on high side. No issue with reboots. My internet connection is stable. I have those stats with uptime of 33 days on the modem.

[Firmware] Config File Rejected
I'm seeing the following in my Arris SB8200 event log. When this occurs, I lose Internet connectivity. I realize Comcast is responsible for firmware, but what exactly is going on here? It looks like this is occurring every ~12 hours.

Fiber coming down my street!
8/13/2020
so... i saw a truck outside with communications labeled on it, and i noticed they were working on the box behind the amplifier next to my house, so i asked the guys what they were doing, they are pulling strings to pull fiber through the neighborhood!
right now its just the thick rope, they are using a fish tape and a large air compressor to push it through the conduits.
they told me tomorrow they will use those ropes to pull fiber though, and they have 5000 feet to do. i asked them if they will take out the old coax, and they basically said it will get abandoned.
they are not the ones doing the fiber splicing, so maybe the fiber gets pulled, and just gets left alone for a while.
so i figured id just start my own thread to track (or not track) how long it takes to get what i assume will be rphy eventually.
assuming the signals will get better (snr) when they do finally do upgrades, but we shall see.

Advice on utilizing Incoming march Speed Boost and new service
Hey guys, moving to new apartment where only Comcast is available. I am computer savvy but not networking savvy. They got cable gigabit that will jump from 1000Mbps(1200Mbps with 20% overprovisioning) to 1200Mbps(1440Mbps) next month. To take advantage of this I decided to get an Arris S33 & a multigig NIC for my desktop. Issue is I need wifi in the house too, Multigig WAN + LAN routers seem to be rare & very expensive, I learned I can't just plug in a 2.5G switch to the modem to plug in both my desktop and 1G router into due to the 1 IP address limit.
Question/Option #1 how cheap can we get a multigig router set up so I can have 2.5G LAN to my PC with wifi(wifi speed doesn't matter could be 300Mbps for all I care) via 1 IP address?
#2 If taking advantage of 1200Mbps without selling your kidney is a lost cause then what's a good affordable 1Gbps router(I was looking at the Mikrotik lineup and they got a lot of options from $50-$100) to pair with my future S33? Fyi I want the neat features I missed out on from renting a gateway like good QoS, ability to bandwidth cap specific devices or outright ban them etc.
#3 I will be getting Gigabit with no data cap which will be more expensive. Considering I'll be a new customer is it worth it to just rent their gateway(I heard XB7 has 2.5G WAN & a 2.5G LAN) from a $$$ perspective? Supposedly you can get a discount if you have a no data cap service paired with their rented gateway. Thanks in advance!

Did Comcast make the "best" decision to stay competitive
Altice/Cablevision made the decision to go "full fiber" to the customer in order to remain competitive with Verizon Fios in the NY metro area. Comcast says "We are going to milk this Docsis to the end" and still remain competitive with Verizon Fios.
Did Comcast make the right decision?

[Equip] XB7 Technicolor CGM4331COM/Arris TG4482 - Wireless AX(Wi-Fi 6)
Looks like a new xfinity gateway passed through testing. No idea if it's going to be called the XB6 still, probably XB7 or something. Model number seems to be CGM4331COM. The test report mentions that it has 802.11ax. Looks like this unit may only have 4 antennas(4x4 AX on both bands). The current XB6 are a 2x2 N 2.4 GHz + 8x8 AC 5 GHz design(I believe it has a total of 12 antennas as a result).
See -
https://fcc.io/G95/4331X
Submitted shortly before it, are two other Technicolor devices called the XHR1-TC and the XHU1-TC. The XHU1-TC might be something like the current XB6 power supply, but upgraded? Its description is listed as "LTE power supply." The XHR1-TC is listed as a Zigbee repeater.
No idea if this will have a fan, but the label does say 12V/4.6A, so 55.2 watts, so I guess it will. The original Technicolor XB6(CGM4140COM) had a 60 watt power supply.
Edit: Changed title to reflect XB7
Edit2: Title updated again to mention Arris version if it arrives.
