[Equip] Weird IP with port 23 (telnet) open on my network

So I did an nmap scan on my network today. I found something unexpected. Nmap scan report for 10.0.0.149 Host is up (0.0018s latency). Not shown: 998 closed ports PORT STATE SERVICE 23/tcp open telnet 111/tcp open rpcbind MAC Address: [redacted] (Arris International) I checked the router's connected devices page and it doesn't list anything connected with that IP (and nothing other than the things I expected to be connected). and when I telnet to it... root@mybox:~# telnet 10.0.0.149 Trying 10.0.0.149... Connected to 10.0.0.149. Escape character is '^]'. RDK (A Yocto Project 1.6 based Distro) 2.0 arrisxb3atom / # Poking around it definitely is some sort of Linux distro and using busybox. It has a bunch of ip addresses, one of which is a public IP address that is supposed to be in Japan. So my first question is, has someone hacked my network or is this something to be expected from the ARRIS TG1682G modem/router I rent from Comcast?

[Speed] Connection drops, speed drops Modem?

Hello all. I have been having some odd problems-I am on a laptop on wireless, modem and router upstairs, wifi extender downstairs. First a notice that I am not connected to the internet, even though I am, my network shows it's working properly. Pages can't be displayed. After a few minutes it comes back up as normal. My sister on the other side of town gets these notices almost daily, my aunt a couple of towns away gets them too, so we know it is on Comcast's side and not ours. My speed should be 20gps, but I am told I won't get that on WiFi. The last time they increased speed (and then increased the bill) I was getting 9, and then suddenly it increased to 17 on my wifi-connected laptop pretty regularly. Now, I rarely get even ten, sometimes it drops to 2 or 4. Nothing I do changes that, both Ookla and Xfinity show basically the same speed. http://results.speedtest.xfinity.com/result/1259930044.png http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/3527564 Now I hear that my Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme has to be replaced because it's outdated. My questions are: 1) is my modem the cause of the problem in drops and speeds, due to upgrades on Comcast's side? 2) will my speed improve if I upgrade my modem ($89 not happening right now), or is this some kind of ploy to downgrade the speed and charge for another 'upgrade' like last time. Thanks for any help.

Comcast, Georgia, connectivity problems

COMCAST Blast 50/10 location - Powder Springs , GA Original complaint: the send and recieve lights of the Motorola sb-6121 will change from blue to green and you cannot refresh a page or go to another page with your web browser. After about 1 minute the leds will again change color from green back to blue and normal surfing can be resumed. This has happened up to 15 -20 times a day and seems to be increasing in frequency. After manually power cycling the modem 2-3 weeks ago the connection was better with only one episode over a 2 day period. Currently it seems to be degrading again. It does not occur at a specific time of day. ====================================== When the upgrade to blast, a couple years ago, was made, a tech came and replaced a portion of the service line from the street to the house. No internal wiring was changed. Motorola SB-6121 Retail Firmware version SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.16-SCM00-NOSH The wireless router seems to be operating normally. Internal Modem Pages are attached. As far as I can tell, power level downstream, power level upstream, and snr, seem good at the time of measurement. Do the attached pages seem to indicate a problem? Any help appriciated.

[Rant] RANT:Current customer told I cannot upgrade to Blast Pro

Current LONG time Comcast customer. CO now (Denver area and IL for decades before that). Blast internet only subscriber. I attempted to upgrade to Blast Pro via the website after logging in. Not trying for a promo - not trying to get any sort of loyalty discount. Nothing. Just a current customer who's paying $82.99 for Blast wanting to pay $89.99 for Blast Pro. Order went through although I didn't receive any sort of confirmation email. Upgrade never occurred. After several DM's to @comcastcares and eventually an email to We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com, I receive this answer: "I apologize, but in order for you to get the Blast Pro tier, you will need to have more than just the stand alone internet. This means you will need to have a bundled service to qualify for the Blast Pro service. As a standalone internet customer, at this time we are not providing the Blast Pro tier." YET AS A NEW CUSTOMER I CAN ORDER BLAST PRO AS A STAND ALONE INTERNET SERVICE! I just entered my neighbor's address and I can order Performance Pro and Blast Pro all day long. Even get a promo discount for it. Yet a current customer can't upgrade to it. I have no knowledge of current telecom laws or decisions or what not. Is this legal to sell a service to only new customers but not current ones? -- You can't walk a straight line girl... if you're wearin crooked shoes

Comcast's Path to IPv6 Only

John Jason Brzozowski gave a great talk at the Cisco & Ecole Polytechnique Networking Innovation and Research Symposium about Comcast's efforts toward going IPv6 only. The talk is definitely worth a watch. One of the cooler stats from the presentation is Comcast is observing more v6 traffic than v4 traffic to an unnamed search provider at most peering points. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSLrJfBwkiI

Noticed a huge uptick in my Line Monitor from San Fran overnight... After doing a test here on DSLR - looks like traffic from SF is now going to Denver before coming back to Seattle. I never put too much faith into these monitors as I used to - but definitely something happened overnight. I'll keep an eye on it.. http://www.dslreports.com/pingtest/nil/3375850

[DOCSIS] SB6190 vs SB8200 (2016 DOCSIS 3.1 modem)

Now that I know Comcast has 24 download channels in my area I'm torn between upgrading to an SB6190 or if I should just wait for the SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 modem to come out next year. While Comcast seems pretty gung-ho about DOCSIS 3.1, if the SB8200 retails for $300 it may make sense to just pull the trigger on the SB6190 now. While my SB6183 is working just fine, it's always nice to be able to use the extra download channels in case my neighbors get 4K TVs for Christmas and start streaming UHD content. :D I've had really good luck with Arris modems, so the $20 difference between the 32x8 SB6190 and 24x8 Netgear CM600 isn't really a factor.

[Speed] Side Discussion on New speed tiers in 2016

I noticed this page while looking at the bill. Beginning from March 16th, Performance Pro and Blast! Pro are available for speeds up to 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps respectively. I currently have Blast! (150/10) plan with Comcast and seems like this service won't be available for new subscriptions but replaced with Blast! Pro etc. I'm in Sacramento, California region. Did anyone else receive similar notice on their bill? Could this also mean free speed upgrades as well? [att=1] Mod Note: See also > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30662059-1000-35-Anyone-Have-It

Please choose what modem you lease or own. If you have two modems: 1 for HSI & 1 for CDV, choose the one you use for HSI. If you don't see your modem, choose "Other". This list is taken from Xfinity/Comcast's list of Approved Modems [EOL] End Of Life Modems are not included. **Note that some models may be EOL for leased option and not retail. Any corrections needed I will do my best to fix them. ;) **This Poll is intended to give members information about what modems Xfinity/Comcast customers are using. [E-mail] Doesn't Comcast Email Servers Filter ANY SPAM???

I am getting my Inbox overwhelmed every day by the same type of SPAM and every day, I Mark As Spam and then a few days later, the same SPAM floods my mailbox again. What's the point of having a setting on Email Preferences for turning on Spam Filter if the mail is still going into my Inbox. Why isn't CC filtering spam when the sender is obvious a spammer?

[Price] ETF-renegotiate contract early ?

$

I'm wondering if it would be advisable to bond with Customer Loyalty to see about getting a new contract about 5 months early what with probable rate increases ? I'm presuming that IS possible since my last bill contains "Effective immediately, if you have a term agreement with an Early Termination Fee (ETF), you will not be charged the ETF as long as you continue to subscribe to at least one XFINITY service during your agreement term." My existing 2-year contract for Digital Preferred TV & Blast HSI is $99.99/month. With taxes, fees and 1 add'l outlet that brings it to around $126. Thanks in advance for y'alls opinions. Cheers. -- RIP, "Daphne": 3/12/05 - 6/19/12. Trump 2016 !

Chicago SouthWest Suburbs Connection Drops

I live in Plainfield, IL (out of the Romeoville headend) and since Wednesday 5/4 I am getting a dropped connection about 3 times a day. Initially when it happened on Wednesday, the modem lost connection altogether and had to wait for it to sync the DS/US, then it came back online within a couple minutes. Then each time thereafter since Wednesday afternoon, I lose connection, with all modem lights lit like usual. It will come back online within a couple more minutes and stay online for a good 4 hours, then again it will happen. I am running my Gateway in bridge mode with a Netgear R8500 router with all firmware current and no issues until now. My signal levels are attached. Not sure where to look in the logs for issues. Anybody having some issues?

Arris TG1682 suddenly "no AirPrint printers found".

I have been using the Arris 1682 Gateway without problems printing to 2 AirPrint printers, Brother 2630 and Epson Workforce from IPad and iPhone. No configurations have changed. Suddenly within the last week I am now getting No Airprinter Found. If I power everything down and reset router everything works again for a couple of hours and then it starts all over again. Common denominator points to Arris Gateway, which was brand new 6 months ago. Any ideas?

[Equip] How can you reboot an ARRIS SB6190 using a script?

I'm trying to make a script reboot my cable modem from the command line. I used to be able to do this using: wget http://192.168.100.1/reset.htm?reset_modem=Restart+Cable+Modem But that doesn't work for newer Surfboard modems. Any suggestions?

[Firmware] updated firmware on XB2 (arris TG862G) breaks bridge mode

The other day i had a rare internet outage a few days ago, where i woke up and noticed my internet was out. so i rebooted the modem and left for work. Came home and it was still out My router was not getting an IP from Comcast. So i call support and they say there is no issues after going through all the standard steps. Just to rule out the modem i activated another modem attempted bridge mode and got the same result. as soon as i would disable bridge mode, the internet would start working again. spoke with advanced wireless support, and the tech looked and said their was a firmware update pushed out early Wednesday morning, which was exactly when the issue started to happen. So if anyone has their XB2 in bridge mode and it stops working out of the blue, then you may have been bitten by the firmware bug.

[Bill] NJ BPU Refund?

Attention other Comcast subscribers in New Jersey - I just noticed this $1.45 credit on my account for a "NJ Board of Public Utilities refund." Did anyone else in NJ get this? Does anyone know anything about this and if it depends on whether you have TV service, HSI service or Voice service?

My neighbor had a new underground drop cable installed. I couldn't help notice how much bigger it is than the old one. It is a Comscope F1177TSEF XPRESS PREP. Is this what Comcast is now using? http://www.commscope.com/catalog/broadband/product_details.aspx?id=46735

[IPv6] ASUS RT-AC3200 and ICMPv6

Not 100% a Comcast question, but does anyone know how to get ICMPv6 to not be "filtered" on this ASUS router? I'm trying to get IPv6 working once again and was doing the test-ipv6 and of course it's complaining IPMCv6 is blocked / filtered I assume it's not at the ISP / modem level and at the router level.. I turned off the IPv6 firewall on the router and it had no affect on the filtered status.

[Connectivity] No upstream channel bonding SB6190 Houston

I used to get 24x3 channel bonding in Houston on my extreme 250 plan (250/25). Now I get 24x1. Power and SNR levels are all very good. It seems like they reprovisioned Houston to not take advantage of multiple upstream channels. Unfortunately my 25 up plan now gets 22-23 whereas with 3 channels bonded I used to routinely get 28-31. Does anyone know why they would change the provisioning?
