I have a new Apple 2TB Time Capsule that worked flawlessly with my old Comcast stand alone modem (forgot the model). Comcast has now provided me with a new Cisco Model DPC3939 Xfinity Gateway. I would like to use the router in my Time Capsule for my internet, since it is the new 802.11ac technology, as opposed to the 802.11n router in the Xfinity. My iMac running Mavericks does not even see my Time capsule when it is connected to the Xfinity. Could someone please give me step by step directions on how to setup my Time Capsule so it will function as the router, and will still do my Time Machine backups. I know very little about things like bridge mode, IPv4, and IPv6 settings, etc., but I am very capable in all other aspects of this computer, and certainly follow a good set of good directions. Thanks in advance for any help you can be!

[Speed] Speed Issues with SB1641
Hi All,
About two months ago I purchased a Motorola SB1641 to replace the old Cisco modem that I was renting from Comcast. Unfortunately, I started having major buffering issues, making video streaming on Netflix (or other services) virtually impossible. Sometimes I can get good download speeds (e.g., on bittorrent), but other times they are terrible (I just got 1.11 Mbps on my last speed test). I have contacted Comcast a few times without getting much help. I am noticing some error messages in the modem's logs, so I wonder if those could help pinpoint the issue. I'm going to include more detailed information below, and would really sincerely appreciate any help that can be offered, because this is extremely frustrating.
1) Your location: Denver, Colorado
2) A description of the problem: see above.
3) Is the issue intermittent, constant or does it occur at a specific time of day? The issue is pretty much constant. Every now and then I can watch something successfully, but more often than not my speed is awful.
4) Your modem make, model & firmware version.
Model Name: SB6141
Vendor Name: Motorola
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.10-SCM00-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3
Hardware Version: 7.0
Serial Number: 374781408802692110020022
Firmware Build Time: Oct 29 2012 18:07:13
NOTE: This issue did not happen with my old rented Cisco modem, so I'm wondering what the issue with this brand new highly-rated modem is.
5) Describe any home networking if applicable. I have a Trendnet wireless router. I have never had any issues with the router, and the speed issues still occur even if I hook up directly to the modem.
6) List any firewall and/or anti-virus software you have installed. N/A. For what it's worth, I'm running a combination of Mac OSX and Linux.
In my phone conversations with Comcast they said that everyone looked good from their end, but I am picking up error messages quite frequently.

[Speed] Is Extreme 150 worth higher pricing (compared to Blast! 105)?
Is the higher price tag of Extreme 105 worth it, in comparison with Blast! 105 Mbps? I would appreciate if someone who has experienced both tiers gives me suggestions and/or recommendations.
I am moving in an area in Boson, MA, where Comcast is a monopoly cable ISP. So, I need to choose one of their plans. Comcast website offers two promotions that are specific to the area: Extreme 150/20 Mbps with $89.99/month for 6 months, and Blast! 105/10 Mbps with $59.99/month for 12 months. After the promo period ends, Extreme 150 and Blast! 105 will go up to $114.95 and $76.95, respectively.
Naturally, the higher price tag of Extreme 150 is due to its faster download/upload speed than that of Blast! 105, but I am wondering if the price difference ($30/moth during promo, $38/month afterwards) is well worth it.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/devnull
Although Extreme 15 is 50% faster in download than Blast! 105, at least on paper, practically, adding 50 Mbps to 105 Mbps may not make so much difference. The upload speed of Extreme 150 is twice as fast as that of Blast! 105, so this may make quite a noticeable difference. But I am not so sure if it is worth the $30-40/month difference.
FYI, I plan to subscribe only to the internet. No TV nor voice. I use the Internet service mostly for browsing/emailing, streaming (from YouTube or similar, but not Netflix), data communication (transfer of quite large files/images/sounds), and teleconferencing, but not for gaming. I have been using RCN 50/10 Mbps for years, but I felt that the network was somewhat slow (but not terribly slow) for my purpose, thus looking into the faster plans such as Extreme 105 and Blast! 105.
Any suggestions and recommendations are welcome.

Ethernet Speed Question
I have Comcast internet 105 down/10 up. I have a fast ethernet card with maximum 100 megabit speed. I get a steady 95 down/11 up.
My question is: Is it worth spending $30-$40 dollars on a new ethernet card just to get the extra 10 down or is that something I would never really notice? It would also be a real pain to pull the computer out from the cabinet and disconnect all the wires to get inside to replace the Ethernet card if I don't really need to.
What are your thoughts???

[Install] ZINWELL 2 to 4 Multiswitch Left from old connection. How to fix?
Hi,
I just moved into a duplex and inside of the unit there are 3 MALE coax cables coming from the floor (1 in the bedroom, 2 in the living room).
I tried connecting my modem to each of these connectors for my XFINITY service I started, but the modem is unable to connect. I called tech support and they are sending out a technician in a few days, but I'd like to resolve the matter myself so I don't have to shell out the cash, especially since I'm a poor grad student.
What the tech support person on the phone and I think is that the old tenant my apartment had either DIRECTV or dish network, and that the male coax cables coming from the floor in the apartment are actually still connected to the satellite, not the cable line. Furthermore, the last time comcast was provided at this address was 5 years ago, so there is a good chance what I am describing is the actual problem.
I went outside of the duplex and I've attached a picture of what I see, which is a ZIMMEL box of some kind.
I've already spoken to the other tenant that lives in the other duplex (not the tenant from my apartment), and she uses U-VERSE, so messing with the coax cable wouldn't have any effect on her service.
On the ZINWELL box, there are two white cables plugged into the right side, the top port says "18 V SAT", the bottom says, "13 V SAT", and the white cables say DIRECTV on them.
The dangling cable on the right hand side of the picture is connected to the powerline.
I tried connecting that cable to the 13 V side, but still the modem didn't work. I'm about to go try the 18 V side and see if that works, but I thought I should post here first.
The four coax cables coming from the left hand side of the box say "RX1, RX2, RX3, and RX4".
So basically, I'm trying to connect the cable to the house, XFINITY cable that is (just internet). I don't need the satellite dishes connected anymore. What should I do?
Thank you!

[Speed] Performance Starter vs. Economy Plus
So, we are subscribed to Comcasts Performance which is advertised at 6 down and 1 up. This speed is more than adequate to stream Netflix in Super HD [1080p] with no buffering. Economy Plus which is advertised at 3 down is the next tier down. Has anybody in this forum ACTUALLY TRIED ECONOMY PLUS to see what video resolution could be achieved with little to no buffering? 720p? 480p?

If I use pingdom.com (which is in a different geography than me) it can traceroute to that server just fine. So the server is up and running. I just can't get to it from my geography. I'm guessing there's a comcast backbone issue in texas. Anyone else seeing it?

[Connectivity] Cant access DSLReports without VPN - VA
Anyone else having problems accessing DSLR? The website times out if I try to visit. Going through a VPN has no issues. T-Mobile 3G also has no problem.

An unrelated question - why is CC directing all my traffic down to Richmond when Ashburn is literally 25 miles away? I never understood that. Ashburn is where my headend is, so it does not make much sense. :)

DSLReports.com currently unreachable from Comcast Indiana
I was unable to load the site when I got up this morning (started trying around 6am Eastern) But it isn't just my line, remoting in to client offices yields the same result from all Comcast lines in the area. Centurylink and Verizon wireless in the same area are working just fine, as is Grande in Texas.

[Rant] Modem disabled
I just got upgraded to extreme 105 yesterday, and they sent out a tech who was clueless and a new modem which is a cisco all in one. I called and tried to get it put in bridge mode, but if they send a signal it disables all the wan ports on the back so you cant use your router. After several attempts the tech gave up sent it a normal signal and it worked again with my external router. After about 30 mins it crapped out again. I checked running the cable from the modem straight to my laptop and had no signal emitting from the modem. After another spell on the phone with tech support, I was informed that you cannot bridge the new cisco modem/routers and have to have the wifi disabled instead. Unfortunately as nice as the tech was, she missed that I was connected straight to the modem, and not going through my new wrt1900ac, and insisted the modem was fine and was having to send a tech out in 5 days to check the new modem. So now I have to use my cell as a wifi hotspot to check my email and forums.
Does any one have any ideas if I can call and try it all again or just wait?

[Install] Never give up - 10 months of back and forth
I posted a thread here a few months back about trying to get Comcast extended to my house, the line terminated about 600' from me. After some back and forth with Comcast, a figure of almost $1,400 to extend the service, me contacting the county (thanks to users here recommending I do so) and finding out that I should be covered under the existing service agreement. I finally receieved confirmation this morning that Comcast are working in the area and should be complete in a few weeks. I had my suspicions last week when a reel of what appears to be burial grade coax appeared in my front yard, but now I have confirmation on them working in the area.
Hopefully not much longer until I can say goodbye to my 1.5MB connection! While it was adequate for browsing, working from home some days could be a nightmare, and watching most streaming video was awful.
What's kind of funny is that CenturyLink are due to complete installing fiber lines at the end of the month, that are about 1/4 mile from my house that may improve my speed with them as well. Will be nice to have a choice out here in the sticks.
So, in short... if you think you should be able to get high speed, keep chasing people until you get somewhere. I believe it was July last year that I started this journey!

I need a modem/eMTA that supports Blast. I will buy or rent. I *do not* need WIFI. Bridge mode would be preferable, but not absolutely necessary as long as the device works as advertised when in gateway/router mode.
