I've read around and cannot seem to find a definitive answer regarding this, but is there a way to avoid paying the $8 dollar Modem/Gateway rental fee if you have the X1 Triple Play bundle?
I currently have X1 with 105 meg internet and home phone (which I hardly use), and wanted to see if I am able to buy my own modem without having to pay the rental fee. I've read horror stories about people buying their own EMTA modem and comcast not letting them activate it. Does comcast provide any type of standalone phone adapter for the digital voice, or would they charge a rental fee for that too?
It kind of seems like they have you by the chain when you have phone service in regards to the rental fee. Just wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.
