Hi everyone, sorry I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but I'm tired of paying $8 a month for Comcast's gateway so I want to buy my own modem. I currently have performance internet but hope to eventually go up to blast. I don't have voice service so a regular modem is all I need. I know I need docsis 3, but I'm not sure if I should get an 8x4 or if a 4x4 will suffice. I'm also not sure on where is safe to buy from. I know definitely not ebay and I shouldn't buy used, only new.
I don't have much money so I can't spend a fortune. I was looking at the SB6121 at amazon, which I believe is a 4x4 and is $67.99. I was also looking at the Arris CM820a which I believe is an 8x4 for $54.97 brand-new (they say) at dontleaseyourmodem dot com but I'm not sure if they're safe to buy from.
Are either of these a good choice, or are there any other good options that you know of? Thanks a lot.
