This is a copy of my post from:

I've been renting an Arris TM722G for about 4 years, it was $6/month, then went to $7, and now is $8. The BestBuy and BrandsMart stores in South FL use to sell the TM722G, but when I called this week, I was told they sold of out them 6-12 months ago, and never got any more stock, so there's nowhere to buy them. I asked why, and was told this was don't to force people into having to lease and pay the monthly fee, which doesn't surprise me.
They all said "You could probably buy one on Amazon".
There is listings for the newer TM822G (which I'd rather have due to the 8 channel bonding) and is between $175-$200.

But my concern is that if I buy one, then Comcast could refuse to provision it to my account, like they did with a Motorola SurfBoard I purchased a few year before I started to rent the TM722G.
Thanks for any advice.
