[Connectivity] Internet intermittent working.

$

I'm in the Joliet, IL area, and it seems since last night my internet has been flacky and only getting around 1-1.5mbps download. Upload almost seems fine but it drops out during speed test for a second or so and shoots back up. I'm still able to connect just unable to stream or download big files. Was wondering if someone can look at these power level and let me know if they're ok. Thanks.

My internet recently started going out daily for about 5 minutes.. [Signals] Not getting paid for throughput

Please read in its brief entirety. I live in Rome, GA and have Internet through Comcast. The last mile is AT&T. I subscribe to the 10/1 tier through Comcast. I have NEVER been able to get more than 2 down. Comcast came out and replaced all the outside wiring (it was a mess) and then a Comcast truck showed up and made markings on the grass and road running from the pole about 1 mile away to the gray box that terminates then runs to the various trailers including mine which looks to be 4. What I intend to do is run tracerts to the servers to see how much are Comcast\AT&T then present the documentation to them. I will also document downloads that support a max of 2 down. Not quite sure yet how I will do this. I have tested this directly connected to the modem and at various times throughout the day and night as well as on different days. The whole reason to do this is that I am paying for one thing and getting only 1\5th of it. If anyone can offer any constructive suggestions please do. TIA, Avantare

[CustSvc] Comcast in my area!

I would appreciate any information on how to get comcast to come to my area. I use to live one town away and I had Comcast for years. I love the service and price. The city I currently live in offers only 1 cable internet provider. I have no idea how they keep the competition out? I am willing to start a petition or whatever it takes. Many people feel the same way I do but if we want cable internet we have to pay outrageous prices for horrible internet service. Also they have zero customer service except one girl behind a desk 3 days a week on her schedule and doesn't know the answers to any questions. Please help me, help you! There has to be a way for Comcast to come to my area? Comcast offers service all around the city I live in but not inside city limits. Why?

[Plan] Chicago Plan Questions

Hi - I'm moving to 60657 and called sales / customer service last week. There's an Extreme 150 plan that is $50 a month on a 3 year contract. I have a few questions: 1. Can someone confirm the termination fees and if it's pro-rated by month over the life of the contract? 2. The rep said that, with a 3 year contract, there are no data caps. Can a forum rep confirm that? 3. There is an offer for "free professional installation". The building is new construction, so I believe this is required. However, I can't seem to schedule past Sunday, June 25th (I'm probably looking for an install on Monday the 26th or Tuesday the 27th). Is that just a limit of the scheduling system in that it does not go beyond 2 weeks - will I be able to schedule for Monday if I wait until tomorrow? Thanks!

[CustSvc] Neighbors have Comcast, I can't get it?

I just moved into Riverton, UT and several of my neighbors (within a few homes) have Comcast. However, Comcast has told me no service is available at my address. The best explanation I've gotten is from one chat representative (when I tried to move service here) who told me there was a damaged cable. Looking at my backyard, I have two cable pedestals in both corners of my yard, 100ft from my house. On one of them, a coax cable is coming out, which is then dangled over the fence. It appears overhead there is another coaxial cable dangling (black wire dropping straight down) - could this be the cable damage they are talking about? How can I get in touch with someone who has an answer for me? Most of the things I have found online are relating to new construction and/or rural areas, which doesn't seem correct for my scenario. I work from home regularly for work (work for a large tech company) and the only other internet available at my home is Centurylink (which came and hooked me up right away) but they can only offer up to 20mb/1mb dsl bonded, which is less than adequate for my needs. Thanks!

What kind of cabling does comcast use?

$

I am trying to get Comcast services to my business. My store front is 15 feet from the street where the box is. Comcast wants 6k to run cable from the box to the business. They have offered to allow me to have a 3rd party contractor do the work. We are a contractor business so we would like to handle it ourselves but Comcast has been unable to get me the information to move forward. Anybody know what cabling I need to run so I can speed up this process? Thanks

New Install

Just confirmed my order for a install this Saturday, for the 300Mbs plan. From what I've been reading this is a new tier for my area. As I am new to DOCIS and Comcast so I have a couple of questions: What modem hardware does Comcast typically install for this tier? Is it worth it to buy my own modem? (I will be using bridged mode, and a Sophos VM as a firewall) What is expected of the Comcast engineer who does the install? I reluctantly switched from ATT after slow fiber roll-outs, and Comcast adding the 300Mbs to my area. Any and all tidbits of information you guys would like to share are welcome! Thanks, Sav

[E-mail] Doesn't Security Assur respond to phishing reports any longer?

Does anyone know if Comcast Security Assurance has stopped acknowledging phishing email reports, please ? It used to be that when one sent the phishing email with full headers to abuse (at) Comcast.net that one would receive notification within a few hours/days that YES -- it was confirmed phishing. I'm now longer receiving that and wonder if they're actually receiving the reports. Some cute scammer is (again) sending me my very own Comcast invoice(s). Last month, I got three -- different invoice numbers and sent by different individuals, lol. This is today's batch: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31461881-Phish-Phish-Comcast-subscribers Anyway - just wondering if Security Assurance IS still responding to the reports. Thanks in advance !

[Business] Is Comcast more focused on residential than business customers?

My name is Andrea Rumbaugh, and I'm a reporter with the Houston Chronicle. Comcast recently announced that it will deliver speeds up to one gigabit-per-second to its residential customers in Houston. Some business customers have complained, saying that Comcast hasn't increased speed tiers for business customers as frequently as it has for residential customers. I'm trying to see if this is true/how many business owners feel this way. I'm specifically looking to interview Comcast Business customers in the Houston area. If you're in Houston and have thought that Comcast is giving residential customers better speeds than business customers, please email me at andrea.rumbaugh@chron.com. Thank you!

[Speed] Provisioning question

I just replaced my leased TG1682G with a new SB8200. The good news is that the download light is blue indicating that DOCSIS 3.1 is enabled and indeed I see an extra bonded channel on the UI. However my speed is now lower. With the old modem, my speed tests typically showed about 120Mbs download. With the new modem it's closer to 100Mbs. I suspect that when I got the new modem activated, my provisioned speed may have changed. If so, what's the best way to get it back up to what it was? Thanks.

[Connectivity] Motorola MB8600 LAN port bonding with managed switch

$

Just upgraded my service to gigabit (up to 986 Mbps) and self-installed a new Motorola MB8600 I purchased on Amazon. For the most part the experience has been positive, with a couple of problems: 1) Relatively low SNR with lots of corrected errors (in the thousands after 1 day). I have one single cable run from the external electrical box to the attic 3-way splitter (about 30ft). I tried removing the splitter but numbers didn't change much (except the Pwr (dBmV) which almost doubled). Should I have a Comcast technician inspect the cable drop? 2) I guess to obtain the full gigabit speed I need to bond LAN port 1 and 2 of the modem. My DLINK DGS-1510-20 managed switch has full support for L2 link aggregation. However, everytime I connect both ports to the switch (partitioned in 4 VLANs: LAN, DMZ, GUEST and WAN) the whole network goes crazy! Any idea which link bonding/aggregation technology is the modem using/expecting?
